Radio DJ stoops to committing prank on Kile Associated Press PHOENIX -- St. Louis manager Tony La Russa is irate over a Phoenix-area disc jockey who called the widow of Cardinals pitcher Darryl Kile and asked if she had a date for Thursday's playoff game. Flynn Kile hung up the phone after KUPD-FM radio personality Beau Duran asked her the question in a call to her Phoenix hotel room, The Arizona Republic reported on its Web site Thursday night. Chuck Artigue, the market manager for the Sandusky Group which owns KUPD, said the prank "was in terribly bad taste'' but no action would be taken against Duran. However, La Russa was upset about the situation. "I'm vehement in saying that whoever is responsible should suffer serious and dire consequences,'' La Russa said. "If we (the Cardinals) could get our hands on them, we would deal with them physically. It was so brutal that something should happen to them. I hope whoever was responsible gets nailed.'' Artigue said he talked to both major league baseball officials and Arizona Diamondbacks president Rich Dozer to apologize. Darryl Kile, 33, was found dead in his bed at the team's hotel in Chicago on June 22. An autopsy showed he died from a blockage of the arteries supplying the heart. | |||||

That's just horrible, what is just as bad is this sports show I listen to at work on Fox-Sports Radio, it's like the Chuck and Boom show or something, it comes on at 3pm EST. The day after the first game on the Cards and D'Backs, they kept talking about how good Flynn looked, and that she was showing off cleavage and had her blouse open and that they continued to look cause they camera man showed her all game. They kept insinuating that she was after Steve Finley of the D'Backs or that Matt Morris was cheating on his fiance with her... It's like, so horrible that people get off on putting this stuff on the radio, as much as I love some of Fox Sports Radio I had to turn it off...Some thigns are funny, I'll admit I listen to Howard Stern and he is a little harsh sometimes, but when you listen to Fox Sports Radio, I expect to hear sports, not hot friggen hot a baseball widow looks. | |||||

Actually, I wasn't including a geographic region... The title of the thread said, "Classy people in Arizona" Now if you want to put yourself in that category, or if your embarrassed to be an Arizona resident at this moment, then that is fine. But I don't believe I said anything about "everyone" in Arizona. The link went directly to the story about the radio station. So am I grouping everyone at the radio station and people who support the radio station? You betcha. And of course there is trailer park trash in Missouri also... No doubt it was in bad (terrible)taste. I'm also disappointed that his employer choose not to take some adverse action. However, some responses to an act like this often get out of hand. I'll paraphrase what i just heard Tony Bruno say on his National talk radio show (which I listen to in Phoenix, BTW). "This guy should have his skull crushed" I'm not defending the DJ dumbass, but IMO, Bruno was just as offensive at the guy he is critisizing. | |||||

The thing is about this, the DJ isn't the only person at fault, I was a Comm/Journ major in college and you learn that EVERYTHING you do on radio has to go through your Programming Director and sometimes depending on the content, the station manager...Therefore 3 guys could possibly be getting the Axe here... skank, I listen to Tony Bruno on FOX the guy who is one 2 shows after him is the guy I was talking about, have you ever heard that show??? | |||||

Yah, I actually heard the story on a morning show from Dallas. The didn't lash out at the other DJ with violence or anything... But they did say they was embarrassed as DJ's at the moment. But like these DJ's said, they won't get fired... They are getting huge publicity right now, only way this could go bad for the radio station is for their sponsors to pull out. | |||||

Perhaps those listeners included the DJ's family. IMO, Bruno offended just as deeply as the DJ. If I am Mrs. DJ, and I just heard a national radio host advocate violence against my husband, i startto worry that one of those "crazies" out there might just respond! Again, please don't take my comments as in any way defending the DJs actions. But people with a national radio show should advocate appropriate responses [IE suspension from work, etc...], not capital punish for idiocy! | |||||

I heard this item on the news this morning and it totally disgusts me. The slimeball who would stoop to such a distasteful stunt should grow up and definitely should get a fitting repremand or be terminated. I certainly would bet that not one of his listeners was entertained by that bit and I hope that they voice their outrage to the sponsors of that particular show, and the station manager, and at the very least find another station. | |||||

"Whoever is responsible should suffer serious and dire consequences," said Cardinals manager Tony La Russa. "If we could get our hands on him ... I mean, that is so brutal, that something really significant should happen to him." News of the phone call spread quickly through the team, which had enjoyed spending time with Flynn Kile since she and her three children had moved from St. Louis to suburban San Diego shortly after her husband's June 22 death. Kile's agent, Barry Axelrod, notified the club that Flynn was not prepared to grant interviews. However, the radio station's call went unchecked. After reading post #19 and the account from the original link above, I realized that they both portray two definitely different inferences about the phone call. The original story left me with the inference that the DJ was making a grossly distasteful reference to the fact her husband recently died. The post #19 story at least sheds a different light and now it just sounds he was just acting like a buffoon and trying to hit on her. Still a stupid, tasteless, and disrespectful thing to do but it paints a slightly different picture. | |||||

man, i'm stunned at this. i'm actually all for the guy getting his skull crushed - whether that's an appropriate response or not is not really the point - what is the point is that i'm not even sure how anyone could even think calling Kile's widow and acting in such a manner would be even remotely funny. i did radio in college - and often was offensive. but there are lines for everything... related to a comment above, about having everything go through the station manager - if someone is speaking off the cuff, then there's no time. if this was somewhat spontaneous, he's not gonna clear it. what goes out on live radio isn't easy to clear with "management".. regardless, i cant believe he's essentially getting backed by management on this. it sorta shows how low we've all sunk. Everyone involved knew that they would catch hell for it, but they also knew that they'd get a ton of publicity. They're the talk of the sports nation for the moment. The best thing to do is let it go. It was done in poor taste, it was done to get a reaction, it succeeded. The article in post 19 definitely changes the story a little, but it was still done in extremely poor taste. I'd like to see the guy who was shoving a phone into Andy Benes' face. From what I've seen so far, whenever something bad happens, most of the people here would post dozens of messages in a row saying almost the same thing. It's easy to just yell at the radio guy. I can do the same. All I did was think a little bit more about the case at hand and put out a question instead of simply being angry and call for somebody's head. I think there are enough people calling for heads that I don't need to say things like that. Afterall, why do we need 20 opinions that are exactly the same? Just read back this thread from the beginning and see for yourself how many different opinions there are. Exactly one -- the same angry one that calls for the firing of both the show's host and the producer. E'Ville: I actually disagree with that. This "emotional damage" thing is very abstract. And abstract things is what brings up all those ridiculous lawsuits we all laugh at. You know, if I'm broke, I probably wouldn't mind being emotionally damaged and get some money out of it. The media chose to make it much worse, IMO, by leaving out some key elements of the story. The station and Duran have apologized to Flynn Kile, both teams and Major League Baseball. "I evaluated late (Thursday) afternoon and on through the night," Artigue said. "Beau is on suspension. He's off the air. "We will talk again a week from today to find out if he, in fact, has had a chance to reflect on what he did and his error in judgment." Artigue said the station has had some phone calls and e-mails. He said everyone with anything to do with the show is regretful about what happened and wishes they could turn back the clock. TLW, Everyone here knows that I like to play the devil's advocate but even I realize that there are issues where it is inappropriate to do so. When you have to really try hard to find another side to an arguement sometimes it is just best to remain silent. If your father died would you want anyone calling your mother up and asking her out, let alone broadcasting it to hundreds of thousands of people. Your point that sometimes widows need to try and live again is valid but even in those situations people shouldn't just call them out of the blue. THEY will decide when THEY are done grieving but before THEY decide that they are ready noone should take it upon themselves to hit on them. It is out of line and inappropriate. If or when Flynn is ready to start dating again she can decide how and where she will go about doing so. | |||||

I heard a radio interview this morning with someone from another station in AZ also owned by the same parent company. This station is apparently a sports oriented station and the woman was saying that it had become very difficult for them to get interviews with teams and even to talk to other media sources due to the backlash over this. She was all in favor of the firing. On a side note, what's up with that DJ Bridget Ventura. Wearing a small version of a confederate flag on her shirt for her bio pic? He might even still be on a roster. Anyway, his sister is (was?) a guitar player for the band. She's like 6'8" and spits fire, among other stunts during the show. Nashville Pussy is a band, and the embrace the southern redrock rock and roll circus thing... their cds are ok, their live shows are good, although not as good as they were when Corey Parks was in the band. she spit fire and spent half the show making out with the (female) leader of the band, who is also married to the (male) leader of the band. she left because of drug issues, apparently having a hard time just saying no... they definitely have the sex and rock&roll (and back in the day, drugs) thing going on - the nashville pussy sticker on my desk here at work has the image of a cowgirl, wearing just a cowboy hat, a vest that is WIDE open to reveal erect cartoon nipples , and thigh-high leather boots, one made up to look like the stars and bars (confederate flag) and the other like the US flag. additionally, she's naked and...err..spread eagled - however she's covered by a strategically placed pistol. btw - they got their name from a live ted nugent album, where the motor city moron, during a concert in nashville, so eloquently proclaims "look at all this FINE nashville pussy out here!" your rock and roll junkie, Tree | |||||
