Draft order selection
We will start our draft order selection Monday 2/24 - please check this thread in message forum.

Draft
I will launch the draft as soon as everyone signs up for draftime when the draft selection ends. The draft will be unclocked until Monday March 3. After the first pick is posted 3/3, we will have a 4 hour clock thereafter (with an overnight pause). We will need folks to stay vigilant and not take the whole 4 hours. We have 14 days to finish the draft as the Tokyo series starts 3/18 6AM ET.

email addresses
Please let me know if there is a better way to contact you - either a different email or perhaps a phone number for texting. I will only text if we desperately cannot find you any other way.

Let’s keep the chatter up and good luck to all

When it's my turn, I would like the earliest pick available. This should allow kdl212 to close the draft order selection with his pick.

Great job folks.... fastest RIBC draft pick selection process ever?

I will soft-launch the draft Wednesday morning 2/26. We'll draft with no clock until Monday 3/3, for those who are ready to pick.

Just a reminder that the draft clock will be turned on today (Monday 3/3) after the first pick of the morning.

4 hours between the hours of 8AM ET to midnight ET. I know we have folks in other time zones.

If anyone has any questions or issues with this, please let me know.

For this second round and third round I really do not want anyone to time out, so may send reminder emails if you get the clock down to under 90 mintues to go, until everyone made at least one pick with the clock. I will assume that everyone has the alerts set up otherwise and will not be a pest after this round, and you are all on your own.

We need to average about 2 rounds a day to make opening day. Based on past drafts we should be ok as long as we do not have big stalls.

Good luck all!

Hey gang... just my usual appeal to do what you can to keep the draft moving. I know we all have other lives and obligations, but these stalls get the rest of us frustrated. We cannot all take the 4 hours and expect to get this done, and we are pace right now to cut it close.

Stalls are inevitable, but if you notice you are one or two away, consider setting an autopick with a small queue. Even a queue of one has a good chance of making it 3-4 picks away. That way we compensate.

OK. That is all. Thanks.

We draft Ohtani as a single player that then takes up two roster spots, right? In that case, mmikulka's pick this round is invalid and needs to be fixed.

My fault if that’s the rule: I thought we were drafting Ohtani the hitter and Ohtani the pitcher individually (also, Philsphan drafted Ohtani the DH, not Ohtani the combo DH/SP). If both Ohtanis were unavailable, how should I submit my replacement pick?

I just noticed that Yahoo says our pitching limit is 1200 IP and that there is no maximum for batters' games played: is this correct? (I think we've been at 1250 IP and 162 GP the past several years)

mmikulka, nice catch - I hadn't seen anything about changes to settings, so I'm assuming the same rules as before. The games played setting seems especially important (unless we want even more roster carousels besides my daily catcher add/drops).

commish - can those settings be changed?

Also a question about roster size - settings have 27 roster spots + an IL slot. Is that right? The draft is 26 rounds.

and I assume our self-enforced rule about the IL slot remains (if a guy is on your roster when he hits the IL, you can IL him, but you can't add a free agent who is on the IL and put him in your IL slot).

thanks

I want to select JD Martinez with this pick (24.12). He isn't currently among the listed players on Draftime, so I will use Seth Martinez as a placeholder since I don't think anybody will be drafting a middle reliever coming off of a season with a 6.15 K/9 and a 54.00 ERA so far in Spring Training.

OK gang.... just one pick left.

We finished in plenty of time for the season opener next week, was there even a doubt.

Once the final pick is in, I will load them, set the waiver order, and launch the league. A BIG THANK YOU to Bean who has been loading the picks as we go. He did this for BOTH LEAGUES.

If any picks are incorrect, let one us know here and we can repair.

All undrafted players will be in waivers for a couple of days and then become free agents.

To set your starters, your roster will first appear in the day after the draft is posted.

Good luck. Keep up the chatter here. No formal thread for draft summary or comments, but feel free to discuss here. Hoping we'll have some more interaction than the recent year where we are lucky to see a post every 6 weeks.

Small matter - but was waiver order set by the reverse of draft selection position, or actual draft position?

For some reason, I thought we used draft selection order - so that the team that picked draft slot 1st got waiver #16 (no matter what draft slot they chose), etc.

Good question. I set it in reverse order of draft order. Forgot Guru did it by reversing draft selection order. Will correct this in AM

Future years we should vote on doing it in order of quickest draft clock used :)

draftime is really odd in the way it assesses the amount of clock time used. if I made my picks on the turn within 35 minutes it increased my clock time by 70 minutes even though only 35 minutes had past. I started out with draftime showing that I had used 31 hours of clock time in rd 1 due the weird way the timing of the 1st rd picks played out, having all my time doubled, and even though the clock hadn't been started yet. I don't think I used much time at all that was actually on the 4 hr clock as I used auto-picks quite a bit and the majority of my picks had to be done in the middle of the night. thankfully it's done and I can attempt to un-vampire myself now.

Royce Lewis - I didn't really want to draft him - must have figured his past injuries were just bad luck, but here we are with a hamstring strain already. Maybe he needs to start doing yoga or something. Giving me Buxton/Rendon vibes.

Flagging here that BlueHen added Clayton Kershaw, who is on the IL. If Kershaw was on the IL when Kershaw was added to BlueHen's roster, then BlueHen cannot put Kershaw on his IL (see message #37 above) (unless we're changing that rule).

We did not say we were changing the rule, although this one we would have to self govern. This one we kind of have to hope folks will follow.

So blue hen needs to keep Kershaw OFF the IL on his roster or put him back to the free agent pool.

Can we get rid of the yahoo no cut list? not that I plan on cutting bryce harper but in case any big name player has a devastating injury it's nice to be able to cut them immediately and not be at the mercy of yahoo removing them from the no cut list.

Aiming for clarity on the IL - the rule is quite simple. If a player is already on the IL when you add him as a free agent or waiver wire claim to your roster, you can keep him on your bench, but you cannot move him to the IL slot on your team.

You can only use your IL slot for a player who was on your roster already when he was put on the IL in the real world.

Hey,

I'm a friend of fairness. However, I'm a friend of the KISS principle too. Why do we always insist on creating "policing" burdens for the commish?

Full disclosure, for those who have never been a commish before (I've done it since 1969). I believe if the Yahoo mechanics aren't good enough, find another platform where 15 out of 16 managers are comfortable, and let that one outlier, lie in the bed he made for himself.

Frankly, i don't need whiners in any league I commish, unless they have the balls to step up and offer to commish themselves.

This is another stupid idea, borne from someone who doesn't want to be responsible for anything.

Great ideas have many proud fathers, none of which knows anything about child rearing.

for the record I think the rule we currently use is still the best option. it sucks to be hammered by injuries and forced to cut a good player only to watch a team with no injuries at all pick up that player and put them in cold storage at no cost. for a long time the ribc didn't have an IL slot at all, which is brutal, and the IL slot was added with the caveat that it wasn't to be used for stashing FA's. the other option was just expanding all the rosters by one but that makes the free agent pool even worse than it already is. it can be policed without any action by a commissioner as long as the manager willingly corrects the error on their own when it's pointed out. I don't think it's the commish's job to police it, usually one of us spots it fairly quickly.

looks like guru started it for the 2021 season after some discussion and voting. I forgot that we also added one more bench slot at that time, wow! we can always discuss and vote on any proposed rule changes prior to a season draft.

Yeah, like I said, I don't recall ever getting a vote on this rule. I was commish of one of the AAA leagues that year. I was told how RIBC voted, the AAA leagues did not get to vote. We simply were told how it would be.

I am ok with the IL slot, in fact, I am in favor of it. It was the part that was not voted on by anyone, including the RIBC top league, that is the issue. You know, the part that prohibits you from picking up an IL player and putting him directly into an IL slot. Great rule, if it were simply a Yahoo option, but it isn't.

I simply HATE rules that cannot be enforced automatically by the platform, and therefore require monitoring throughout the season. These type of rules by default become the commissioner's burden to deal with. This one in particular, has little impact on the game, since everyone has an equal chance at adding the player. Why is it even necessary?

I kind of agree on this. I've been commish the previous two years (maybe three?) and had the rule violations pointed out to me because I'm certainly not looking at anyone else's rosters. Should I be? Maybe. Do I have time for that? No. Maybe I shouldn't be commish then? I'm not this year!

As for rule changes. Those have always happened at the RIBC level and applied to all leagues. If you weren't in RIBC that year, you didn't get a vote. That being said, we are probably small enough now to allow all 30 of us to vote on things since all we are doing is bouncing between two leagues.
