This will serve as our in season league thread for RIBC 2026
These are the people assigned to this league: Holt Twilson Kdl212 DaBomb mmikulka philsphan Seattle Zen blue hen restok (GO) foot maspero uptown bombers Fugazi Bean Matt G nerfherders
I have sent out Yahoo invites and a few have yet to sign up. Let me know if you are not in Yahoo and did not get an invite.
Fred at Draft Time is hoping to get the site ready for MLB later this week. Please look for invite to Draftime and sign up promptly when you get it.
Draft order selection We will start our draft order selection once we get all 16 signed up at Yahoo. You all know the drill.
Draft I will launch the draft as soon as everyone signs up for draftime and the draft selection ends. We have more time this year because their are no early regular season games in Asia/Australia this year. As a result, I'm targeting a draft start of Saturday, 7 MAR. There will be at least 24 hours of untimed draft, otherwise I hope to keep the clock at 4 hours with daily pause between midnight and 8AM EST, the clock will start on Monday, 9 MAR. History two weeks of slow draft generally works well, so we target draft completion 23 MAR and season start on 25 MAR.
email addresses Please let me know if there is a better way to contact you - either a different email or perhaps a phone number for texting. I will only text if we desperately cannot find you any other way.
Let’s keep the chatter up and good luck to all |

Matt G - note the draft won't start until Saturday March 7th, if that impacts your choice at all.

OK, guys thanks for getting this done. Everyone is enrolled in Draft Time too.
Here is our remaining schedule:
07 MAR Draft Time open (untimed) 09 MAR Four Hour clock begins 23 MAR Target Draft End 25 MAR MLB Opening Day
So, go do your draft research now. Remember that there will be a daily pause from Midnight to 8AM EST. Also remember that Ohtani and others who are both hitter and pitcher are drafted and rostered as separate players. Good Luck.

It won't happen this year, but it would be crazy to see Shohei go #1 and #2 in the same draft. Or (certainly possible this year) for a manager to draft Shohei twice.

The Political League, a 25 year old Rotoguru born keeper league, still needs one replacement manager this year. It's a 10 cat rotisserie league with 5 prospect keepers (8 on roster) as well as 7 MLB keepers.
Let me know if interested.

Draft has started untimed.
Four hour clock begins on Monday
Proper etiquette is to attempt to make your pick inside your four hour window even though it is not enforced. Have patience with those who do not follow this etiquette, they may be unaware of the draft start or had previous obligations.
Good Luck and have fun

Why are we going so slow? Three picks skipped in the first 63? And I don’t want to the hear the “well, some of us have jobs” line of hooey cause I KNOW all y’all and you are the same bunch of bums as years past.

Thanks Holt/Philsphan,
I'll just live with it, and whine. He is projected to come back later this season, and I have an injury slot. I usually pick up a few good SPs during the season. About the only thing I improve my team with it seems, can never get in on the rotating closers.

Draft is over, thanks for making it go smoothly.
Check your Yahoo lineups by going to draft results on a browser. Let me know if you see a problem.
I will open the season tomorrow morning and players should go on waivers for a couple days before they go to free agency. To see your team on your roster then, you may have to go to 22 MAR.
Enjoy the friendly competition this year.

I believe the waiver order has traditionally been set at the outset as the reverse of the draft selection order (and not the actual draft order). So Foot's Acrobat would have waiver #16, and Gorman Spiders #1.

We still have the rule where we aren't allowed to add an injured player and then stash them on our IL, right?

I assume the rules have stayed the same - I didn't see any discussion or vote on changing that rule.
That would mean Blue Hen needs to move Corbin Burnes off his IL, or drop him

Though not a fan of the rule. It's still the rule, and I'll enforce it if it's reported to me. I won't police it, however. If someone wants to be the honcho of this one rule, I can provide you with co-commissioner access.

such brutal injuries this season. I thought last season was bad but it seems worse this year. these guys drop like flies and the process for getting back in game action is so slow. in football I see wr's with a hamstring back in action after 2 games but in baseball you can count on them missing 30 games or more. any kind of shoulder or elbow issue from a pitcher and you're very lucky if they're only out a month. it's interesting how teams 100 years ago would use 4 man rotations and almost no bullpen at all but these guys today are pushing it to the limit for velocity and spin on every pitch. maybe they should just let them start using spit balls and scuffed balls again, maybe more knuckleballers!

I think I had 7 guys on IL once. Had to start dropping guys that were decent draft picks. That said, I still have five IL eligible. Maybe more IL slots next year?
While we are talking about rule changes, my pet peeve is SV. It is a joke of a category, convert to S+H and suddenly the game is far more accessible to everyone, and far more good relievers have value. Our current ruleset simply rewards managers who grab all the closers in waiting before anyone has a chance at them. It's always a race to the waiver wire, which is not strategy, its just overtime without time and a half.

35 games in I've had 14 players go to IL, 7 of them being my top 16 draft picks. it is what it is, we've all got injuries. I'm mostly musing on how fragile baseball players are compared to what I've experienced on fantasy football teams.
so far this this season 301 players have been put on the IL. 2026 - 301 2025 - 819 2024 - 775 2023 - 856
at this point in 2025 305 players were placed on IL so the IL rate hasn't increased. the statcast data for this only goes back to 2020. I was curious to see data from previous decades but haven't dug it up yet.
2 IL slots I could go either way, 1 or 2.
S+H vs saves, I wouldn't personally vote for it due to how I think it would massively change the level of strategy in our draft. None of the guys I drafted for saves even got one, but I punted them until the 10th round, so it's a consequence of how I chose to draft. I didn't like how early the closers were being scooped so I blew them off. but that's why I like the saves, it's a big strategy element of the draft. With S+H leagues the relief pitchers become a draft after-thought. The scarcity factor is gone due to the sheer number of 7/8/9th inning pitchers available. picking up saves is a challenge for sure, but S+H I think is like shooting fish in a barrel. I wouldn't use any draft picks on a reliever in a S+H league because you can just stream guys for holds as the season unfolds. just my take on it.

Another way to reduce the closer conundrum is to allow only two slots for RP, and all the other pitcher slots are labelled SP. Of course that won't stop you from using bench slots for RPs and monitoring usage.

At 118 roster moves in a month a half, it's not surprising that Holt has had so many injured players. He's rostered a decent percentage of the entire mlb player pool already.
I agree with Holt on SV+Holds. First, it provides some strategy, at the draft and in-season. Should you devote a draft pick or roster spot to the next-in line guy behind an established closer, or someone like Kirby Yates who is old and stinky but might get some saves? That choice, which many managers make (which means there really isn't a race to the waiver wire when a closer gets hurt because the next-up dudes are already rostered) comes at a cost. We've all missed out on hitters and starters we wanted b/c we chose to roster the equivalent of Kirby Yates for weeks with nothing to show for it.
Second, counting SV+H also gives too many players some value. Outside of maybe drafting one stud reliever, I'd just turn 2 roster spots into daily carousel slots for above average relief pitchers due to pitch that day. And anything that encourages daily roster churn and makes this league more like a DFS play is something I'm against.
If we limited total season-long roster moves to something like 200 (one per day) (a rule I strongly support), I'd be more willing to switch to SV+H.

Guys who like the SV vs S+H are mostly liking it because they have been successful in getting closers in free agency over the years. Meanwhile the rest of us just have to waste high draft picks on closers or punt the category.
I think most who have played in this league before know that there is absolutely without a doubt a race to the waiver wire in this league. There are people who stay up until 1 AM to make sure they get the newly anointed closers (and other surprise players) in free agency, when they become available.
So let's not pretend that there is a strategy to that, unless you consider winning the race and being awake for the "day change" is a "strategy".

Holt and Me: there's a strategy/tradeoff to choosing to draft Matt Brash as a next-up closer instead of Jordan Walker, or adding Kirby Yates when he is on the IL and weeks from returning instead of Landon Roupp.
Bean: let's not pretend there's a strategy to staying up until 1am.

As somebody who is awake until 2 or 3 am pretty much every night: definitive closers, prospect callups, and anybody who has obvious value almost never makes it that far. People just drop somebody on their bench during the day as soon as the news breaks or when the main closer gets hurt/blows a save.
On occasion the Caleb Killians and Tejay Antones of the world might be available at 1am, but generally when I make a move exactly as the day switches, I've just already decided which player I want to stream.
As much as I enjoy how active this league is, I would be in favor of the transaction cap idea (200 seems reasonable, maybe 250 to allow for a daily move + injury replacements).
I don't like SV+HD because it would dramatically expand the number of pitchers who provide value. Right now there are 69 pitchers with 5+ holds (21 pitchers have 5+ saves) and 128 with 3+ holds (45 have 3+ saves). We would be incentivized to roster 8+ RP or punt the category: I already tend to roster a billion RP, but that doesn't seem like something most of this league would enjoy. Are we ready to draft Kevin Kelly and Taylor Clarke in the 6th round? Do we want a league where Erik Sabrowski currently provides more fantasy value than Juan Soto or Bryce Harper?
I would be fine expanding to 2 IL slots: I'm generally in favor of anything that puts a higher percentage of players on our rosters rather than "who gets to them first when news breaks".
On another note, I think it's getting towards the time where I should sell some of my SB: if anybody wants Chandler Simpson, Jose Caballero, or Nasim Nunez, I'm looking for pitching in return.
