so, there was an apparent shoot this past weekend florida, in a tag match featuring Rick Steiner and Erick Stevens vs. Dustin Rhodes and Vordell Walker.

Stevens and Walker are two of the younger, up-and-coming stars coming out of the florida scene. Walker has already made appearances with Ring of Honor, and Stevens was trained by ROH star Roderick Strong.

according to pwinsider.com, here's what happened (two different reports):

There was something of a shoot involving Rick Steiner and Vordell Walker at the Southern Championship Wrestling event this past weekend in Ocala, Florida. As it was explained to me by several who were at the event, Steiner seemed to come into the ring looking for a legitimate fight for reasons unknown. Backstage before the bout, he had taped up his fists in a way not to protect them while he worked a match but in a way to prepare them for a legitimate brawl. The match featured Steiner & Erick Stevens vs. Walker & Dustin Rhodes (substituting for Road Warrior Animal), with Steiner completely no selling all of Walker's offense. The two began fighting in what appeared to be a legitimate fight. At one point, Steiner tried to choke out Walker, who broke free and basically told Steiner it was on and to try again. Steiner backed off and he and Rhodes began brawling. Walker and Stevens both walked out of the match upset and went to the back. It ended up with Rhodes pinning Steiner in an impromptu singles bout. Stevens left the venue immediately without changing from his tights. There were no further incidents between Steiner and Walker that I have heard of.

There was a major problem between Rick Steiner and sometimes Ring of Honor wrestler Vordell Walker. Steiner refused to talk with Vordell or the other young wrestler Erik Stevens before the match leaving a very friendly Dustin Rhodes to plan out the match. As soon as Steiner got in the ring with Vordell he immediately forced Vordell's head down and gave several shoot kicks with the point of his boot to Vordell's face and mouth. He then attempted to mount him but Vordell managed to get out of it and to his feet and began throwing shoot kicks at Steiner to defend himself. They went at it again and Vordell got Steiner down and appeared to get the best of Steiner until Dustin reached over and made the tag to get Vordell out of the ring. The next time they were in the ring together, things broke down again as Steiner attempted to powerbomb Vordell over the top rope to the hard floor. Vordell refused to go along with the move and fought away from Steiner. At this point, Steiner and Rhodes fought to the floor and out to the concession area. As Steiner was selling for Rhodes, Vordell came running with a shoot kick to Steiner's face and then the dressing room pretty much cleared and Vordell was taken to the back while Erik Stevens simply left and Steiner and Rhodes finished the match by themselves. After the match security kept the two away from each other. Steiner apparently apologized afterwards for his actions and said he was just trying to "rough the kid up a little" and obviously didn't expect the shoot trained Walker to be be able to give it right back and hold his own.

------------------------

there have been a few other reports, and apparently after the match Walker went up to Steiner in the concession are to ask him what the deal was. Steiner basically told him to f*ck off, and Walker gave him a running kick to the head.

i talked to Erick Stevens about it briefly, and he really didn't feel like discussing it. he's a young kid, just starting to make his mark, and to see this stuff go on from a vet has got to be disillusioning.

still, it's cool to see Walker - who i like very much - he seems to have Goldberg toughness, but with real wrestling skills - refuse to take the crap, and instead give it back to steiner *and* get the best of him...

and who says wrestling is fake...

"Steiner attempted to powerbomb Vordell over the top rope to the hard floor" --- what a numbskull. And yeah, he deserved every bit he got in return.
