from today's newswire for Ring of Honor Wrestling:

August 11th: The time for hype and talk is over. This weekend ROH will be presenting two very special shows. There will be tickets available at the door on both nights. Friday, August 12th, ROH will be at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds on 1043 S. Main St, Dayton, Ohio, 45409.

Saturday, August 13th, ROH will be at the Frontier Fieldhouse, 9807 S. Sayre, Chicago Ridge, IL 60415. We urge you to crawl, walk, skip, run,
skateboard, rollerskate, motorscooter, drive a car, ride a bus, take a plane, float in an air balloon or do whatever you have to in order to
get to this weekend's events. They will be talked about for years. You will never forget them.

August 11th: Make sure to check the main page of ROHwrestling.com for columns from CM Punk and Colt Cabana about each other. These are must reads that really tell you the significance of this Saturday's match in Chicago. Our hype can't do this match justice, just read their heartfelt words to see what it means. We also have the first column up from ring announcer Bobby Cruise on the main page of ROHwrestling.com.

August 11th: Matt Hardy will be signing autographs at the end of both Friday's show in Dayton and Saturday's event in Chicago.

-------------------------------------

this will my 5th trip out to the Midwest from NYC for Ring of Honor in the past 14 months. if you're a wrestling fan, or even if you used to be a wrestling fan and soured on it because the WWE sucks, and you live anywhere close to Dayton or Chicago, i would seriously suggest checking out these shows.

while there are going to plenty of incredible matches on the undercard each night (particularly Austin Aries, Roderick Strong & Matt Sydal vs. Jimmy Rave, Alex Shelley & Abyss with Prince Nana and Low Ki vs. Jay Lethal in Dayton and Matt Hardy vs. Roderick Strong and Pure Champion Samoa Joe & Jay Lethal vs. Homicide & Low Ki of The Rottweilers in Chicago), it's the story of CM Punk that you're paying to see.

Punk is probably the most important wrestling in Ring of Honor, and has been a main eventer for much of his time in ROH, including violent feuds with Raven and Jimmy Rave, and classic matches with Samoa Joe, one of which is considered to be the best U.S. match in the last 10 years.

For most of his run, Punk was a heel. the classic bad guy that everyone hated. Then, something changed, and when he saw the legendary Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat being destroyed in a four-on-one beatdown, Punk came to the rescue, turned face, and soaked in the cheers of the fans.

In May it was announced that Punk had signed a contract with the WWE. We were losing our hero, but he was going to the big time. His farewell match was scheduled to be June 18 in Morristown, NJ, where he was to get one last match at the ROH World Title, against champion Austin Aries.

Most people presumed it would be a good match, but Punk would lose because, after all, he was leaving the company, and putting the World Title on him would be foolish.

Well, the unthinkable happened and an emotional CM Punk won the Ring of Honor World Title.

Then, as the fans literally cried tears of joy (i was there, and there were plenty of people who were so emotionally invested in the hero that is CM Punk), something sinister, and even more unthinkable happened.

Before our eyes, our hero became a madman.

he told a story of a snake laying in wait. of a man using the emotions of the fans to win a championship, then tossing those fans away once he won the title, because he longer needed them, because, he was the champion. the World Champion. and he was taking the cherished title to the WWE with him, because Ring of Honor fans didn't deserve to see him wrestle.

Two months later, Punk is still the champion, and scheduled to begin working WWE TV Tapings soon. this is scheduled to be his last weekend in Ring of Honor, and fittingly, it ends Saturday night, in his hometown of Chicago, against his real life best friend and the man he came up in the business with, Colt Cabana.

Both shows will be emotional powder kegs, but the Chicago one should be something special. I'm a huge wrestling fan, and i've been to shows in many different states and countries, and i haven't looked forward to an event as much as i do this one.

If you can get there, go. you will not regret it, and you may even find yourself traveling halfway across the country for Ring of Honor events.

Let me say one thing - I would give anything to go to these shows... but between getting time off from work, distance, car trouble, lack of funds etc I cannot.

So anyone that even has a remote interest in wrestling - and lives relatively close to these places I really think you should give it a shot cause you won't be disappointed. GA tix are only like 10-15 bucks (Tree?).

I now have a girlfriend who thought wrestling was retarded - she tagged along to one show and now she is hooked... emailing me with questions about guys, now has favorites, knows what heels and faces are etc. She looks at it like theater.

If you go - and don't enjoy it - I will send you a check and refund your money for you.

I am between the guy with the hat on and my girlfriend... or if you put your finger on Punk's Pepsi logo and run it straight upwards.

And yes for everyone who doesn't know him yet - he actually has a Pepsi logo on his arm. Tree, correct me if I am wrong but I read it was a symbol of his being Staight Edge - where all the jocks were out drinking beer in school he was drinking Pepsi and staying clean so it kind of became symbolic.

He also has the GI Joe cobra on the other arm.

does Tree get points for Jamie Noble/Gibson last night? He's probably flipping out lol... surprised Hardy beat Homicide - thought they would job Hardy the last few shows.

8/12/05 Resuls, GIBSON WINS ROH HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE - by Adam 13 Aug 2005

Last night at the Ring Of Honor event in Dayton ROH crowned a new ROH Champion when James Gibson outlasted Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels and defending champion CM Punk to capture the title. Of course this raises some interesting questions about what ROH will do with the title. Gibson is of course expected to be heading back to the WWE in the very near future, so it should be interesting to see how ROH handles this. Gabe posted a short statement on the ROH Messageboards stating that Gibson would address his future in ROH tonight at the Chicago Ridge event. Now, here are the results from last nights show in Dayton.

Unnamed Event - Dayton, OH 8/12/05
1. Ace Steel defeated Delirious, Matt Stryker, & Sterling James Keenan
2. Colt Cabana defeated Spanky
3. ROH Tag Team Titles: BJ Whitmer & Jimmy Jacobs defeated Nigel McGuinness & Chad Collyer to retain their titles (1st Defense)
4. Austin Aries, Roderick Strong, & Matt Sydal defeated Jimmy Rave, Alex Shelley, & Abyss
5. Low-Ki vs. Jay Lethal ended in a No-Contest
6. Matt Hardy defeated Homicide
7. ROH Heavyweight Title: James Gibson defeated CM Punk, Samoa Joe, & Christopher Daniels to win the title

ROH Releases Statement from Colt Cabana - by Adam 13 Aug 2005

Much like ROH did with CM Punk, they have now released a statement from Colt Cabana concerning tonights match with CM Punk in Chicago Ridge. Here is the statement in full:

"I always looked forward to training with Punk. I looked forward to our very first match together in Milwaukee for MAW. I looked forward to our matches with Eddie Guererro, with Harley Race as our ref, our 60 minute match, our iron man matches, our four minute TNA match, our 2/3 falls match and everything in between. I so looked forward to debuting in ROH against Punk. Never in my life though have I looked forward and anticipated a match like I do for Punk's last hurrah this Saturday in Chicago.

In a sport and a business that has many "I I I" attitudes, the knowledge of CM Punk signing with WWE was one of the happiest moments of my wrestling career and my everyday life. I remember watching Punk at a MAW show, holding up a case of Pepsi with Dave Prazak and ripping the crowd apart. Even though we were close back then, I still stepped back and said "damn this kid is a star." Everyone always said he had that "it" factor. He does and he did.

Punk and I have spent probably years worth of our lives together inside and outside of the ring. It was rare to find someone who loved wrestling as much as I did and for that we clicked very well together and were rarely separated. Thanksgivings, Xmas's, Hanukkah's, birthdays were all spent together wrestling with each other and the boys.

Now Punk is off to become the huge star we all knew he'd become. To me, he's an inspiration. He got himself that job without breaking his beliefs and way of life. Since day one, Punk knew his passion and has gone for it. There's been many hurdles for both of us. We don't stop though. He broke his skull and was back two months later. I know wrestlers who chipped a nail and gave it up. I hope when I have kids that they follow his work ethic, morals and beliefs.

It's hard to write about Punk and Cabana without mentioning myself, but that's not what this is about. This is Punks night. I couldn't be happier and more proud to be in this match, but at the end of the day, this is CM Punk's story. The story of a man who knocked and knocked and wouldn't stop knocking until someone took notice. It was only a matter of time because the cream will always rise to the top.

On August 13 in Chicago, IL, Punk and Cabana will go one more time. I can't wait to give the people all we have and more. In turn, I can't wait for the people of Chicago, our hometown, to give us all they have.

wow.

i am drained. emotionally, and physically. for the first time in going to all these shows (at least, as best as i can remember), i am hoarse. my throat feels ragged, and it hurts to talk. my body is sore, my head hasn't stopped pounding in abou 24 hours, and i'm exhausted.

first off - watching James Gibson win the ROH World Title was amazing. i won't go into all the nuances and details of how wonderfully old school the booking was in getting the strap to him, but it was definitely a thing of beauty.

after he won, the faces came into the ring to celebrate with him, brought him bears, and even his wife joined in the festivities. Gibson was the anti-Punk - whereas CM Punk won the World Title for himself and planned on going to the WWE with it, Gibson won the title for the fans, and called it the highlight of his wrestling career, even more important than winning the WWE Cruiserweight title.

being that Noble was somewhat of a local boy (West Virginia), and spent a lot of his pre-WWE time wrestling in Ohio, the building went nuts when he won. and it was easily 95 degrees in the building, which was brutal.

going to Matt Hardy a bit - he did end up losing Saturday night to Roderick Strong in a helluva match. it was fairly stiff, and both guys really beat the crap out of each other. Roderick, who i've watched grow as a wrestler in the last 18 months, had the match of his career. In pinning Hardy, Roderick did what neither Homicide nor Christopher Daniels could do, and that says a lot for how highly ROH things of Roderick.

i'm happy for him because i consider him a friend, and i don't think Hardy is the last WWE superstar Roderick will pin. He nearly outlasted Kurt Angle earlier this year, and i think it's just a matter of time before the WWE comes calling.

of course, this weekend, was all about CM Punk. and subsequently, it was all about emotion. after losing the World Title friday night, Punk just laid in the ring, while Gibson and the faces celebrated. But Saturday night, in his hometown of Chicago, CM Punk the hero was back, and the crowd was overjoyed.

When Punk made his ring entrance, and stepped up onto the corner railing like he always does, he was two feet away from me. and tears were streaming down his face. it was pretty damned emotional.

He and Colt wrestled a 2-out-of-3-falls match with all kinds of styles - stiff, silly, technical, brawling - you name it. Colt ended up winning the match 2 falls to 1, which was a nice touch.

In his speech afterwards, Punk put over the fans, and ROH. many of the wrestlers and Punk's students came to the ring, and kneeled down as a sign of respect as Punk spoke, but Punk implored them to stand, because in ROH everyone was an equal to everyone else. Even his parents came to the ring.

Afterwards, Punk stayed in the locker room a looooooooooong time, basically waiting for most of the crowd to thin out.

he came out 30 minutes later, and a few people caught him on his way to the showers and asked for autographs, and i just walked over, shook his hand, and said "Thanks for a helluva ride, and thanks for the best 2 months of wrestling since i was 10 years old..."

he laughed, grabbed me, and hugged me, and thanked me for being the kind of fan that makes ROH a special place.

i've talked to Punk a zillion times, and we've goofed off together a few times, but i wasn't expecting a hug, so i marked out a little bit.

CM Punk is a good man, and he's going to be a star in the WWE.

"your like a bear and you've got these claws!"

I am so disappointed I missed all this... and surely the DVD's won't do it justice but it will have to suffice.

Thanks Tree! - did you mention to Punk that I own his rights in a fantasy league and I need him to step up?! lol...

Tree, going to the show in Morristown tonight?

I just read AJ Styles can't perform with a knee injury which is disappointing. (good for Strong who replaces him though) Should be a good show regardless!

Tree - my g/f's nephew had fun and enjoyed it but was predictably bored during the Spanky/Gibson match which just drained all energy out of the place... and then ending with the Pure Title match wasn't really a great way to get it back... though it was a well done techincal match.

We were all impressed with Jerrelle Clark too.

Disappointed that AJ was hurt, there was no Low-ki or Shelley in action and Jack Evans still out and Punk obviously not there either anymore thins things out a bit.

New tights for Roderick? Sign of elevated status to come?

yea, it was still a good show, but not the best. the crappy crowd helped ruin the Gibson/Spanky match, which actually was decent.

Jerelle deserves a shot on the main roster.

Low Ki is in Japan, Evans is still nursing his hand injury, and i found out after the show that Shelley legit hurt his back.

Roderick switched from tights to trunks, and Jimmy Rave from those plastic garbage bag pants to tights. for both, it's a sign of elevation and much like when Punk changed from shorts to trunks, it's more "professional" looking.

Jimmy and i were hanging out in our hotel room last week in Dayton, and he told me that a bunch of them were goofing off in the locker room earlier in the year, and Roderick tried on Punk's trunks, and Rave tried on Roderick's tights. Gabe walked past them and said "wow, you guys look great. you have to change to that now..."

re: Jerrelle, never even seen/heard of the guy and we were all impressed. I bet when these guys get to work with him a bit more he will look even better cause they probably aren't familiar with all his unorthodox moves yet.

Thats weird, cause I kind of preferred Rave in the "Tajiri" style pants... they make him look a little bigger too I thought.

I said this to the people I was with - the Spanky/Gibson match is a good match, but just the wrong place, wrong time etc... they should of just had it been Homicide, have Gibson pin him or whatever and be done with it. But they tried to do too much with it I think and it was like, god, who cares?! they are both leaving anyway we know he isn't gonna drop the strap to another guy who is leaving so it wasn't believable - or lacked the suspense I bet.

But exactly, the match - if it were in a vacuumn (sp?) - and just saw two guys performing, was a solid match. So I think that falls on the bookers.

exactly why I don't think Spanky realistically had a shot... they couldn't possibly put it on a third guy who is leaving (and then also a fourth when Spanky left) all in the course of 2 months, could they?

Don't you think with all they did to build up the credibility of the belt with Joe holding it so long, and Aries defending it often etc would kind of be flushed down the toilet if now they just pass it around every few weeks like the wwe hardcore title?
