Just figured I would open a thread for any discussion of TNA on Spike TV 11 PM Saturday nights and replayed midnight after RAW on Monday nights. Pretty good wrestling show.

If you click on the video section of that website there are some great videos. That guy's voice is so familiar - anyone know where the narrator's voice is from?

Anyone see the opening show?
AJ Styles put on good performance vs. Roderick Strong in a solid X Division match.

Jeff Hardy vs. Rhyno goes to a no contest when Abyss and Sabu interfere. They are having a no DQ 4 way dance called "Monster's Ball" at the PPV later this month that should be just brutal and violent (Mike D, for some reason I always thought you'd be an Abyss fan).

Jeff Jarrett and America's Most Wanted (the best tag team in wrestling) get jumped by the Dudley Boys and Kevin Nash. TNA looks to be firmly behind tag team wrestling which is very refreshing.

Its awesome to have an alternative again.

i recorded it, but haven't watched it yet.

when roderick and i were hanging out on saturday, we talked a bit about the match. the TV one was a re-tape, because the first one kinda stunk. he was bummed, but he's excited to have the TNA contract.

tree, I think your boy had a real good match. He executed a few nice moves including a great backbreakers. He also sold a few moves nicely which sometimes is probably hard with AJs unusual style.

forgot to comment on Strong's backbreakers to Wiggs (i read stuff at work and forget when I can't post lol..)

Strong's array of backbreakers is kind of like what Taz used to do with the suplexes. He pulls them off from all kinds of crazy angles. Really makes you pay close attention to see where its gonna come from next.

if you guys want to see a bit of Roderick's intensity (not to mention that of American Dragon Bryan Danielson), go to the Ring of Honor home page, and check out the left side of the page where the videos are.

"Danielson vs. Strong goes over the line" is the particular highlight i'm talking about. VICIOUS chops, strikes, punches, and forearms from both guys.

some of the other videos are good, like Jimmy Rave's "message" and Colt Cabana's "rap", but the highlight of Danielson/Strong is off the charts.

TNA Turning Point PPV Preview
Tomorrow night's TNA PPV marks a huge date for the company. It is not only the first PPV after proving they could survive with monthly PPVs past the year mark, but also several new faces are with the company, and we'll see what kind of an impact it has on buy rates. This PPV marks the debut of Christian Cage, and also promises the surprise that will change the face of the company forever (heavily rumored right now to be Sting).

The actual match portion is stacked with a great X Division Title match that should be a match of the year candidate, a Barbed Wire match, and a tag team dream match. I'm not a huge fan of the World Title match they decided to go with though. There's also the late addition of the Chicago White Sox involvement in a match, which should be good for a small mainstream boost, as I'm sure a few sports channels will pick up that story after the event.

Main Event
World Title match
Rhino vs. Jeff Jarrett (c)
- This is the rubber match of their series, and I'd expect a pretty good match out of these two with how they've worked in recent months against one another. My one problem is that this match to me just has no legs anymore to draw, and they established a #1 contender last month in Monty Brown, who is once again getting the screw job here without getting a Title match (much in the same way that Abyss did when he won the #1 contender spot several months ago on a TNA PPV). I'd expect Jarrett to win this, solely for the reason that whatever they go with in January really needs Jarrett entering as World champion. Though Rhino vs. Brown would be good, I can't see the company putting that as a main event, at least not yet.
Prediction: Jeff Jarrett

X Division Title match
AJ Styles (c) vs. Samoa Joe
- We all saw what these two were capable of back in September in the three way match they had with Christopher Daniels, and now we get to see them go one on one for the first time in TNA and the first time on PPV. To say this will be a late match of the year candidate is an understatement because it will almost definitly blow the roof off, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if the company went with this as the last match on the show given it's their first meeting, and much more interesting than Rhino vs. Jarrett. That said, I'd expect Joe to pick up the win and the belt, now that his character has some depth to it after the attack on Daniels, and what's happened in this feud. Realisticly you have the rematch with Styles, the inevitable feud with Daniels which can move Styles back towards the World Title scene and matches with Christian Cage or Jeff Hardy, and eventually the intrigue of the larger Joe in an Ultimate X match down the road.
Prediction: Samoa Joe

Tag Team Title Tables match
Team 3D vs. America's Most Wanted (c)
- Ever since AMW burst onto the scene back in 2002, this is a match many thought would eventually occur in a WWE ring when the larger company signed away the young team, but TNA managed to take advantage of the WWE's stupidity in great fashion here. There are few real tag teams with any sort of legacy these days, and here you have two of them in the same match against each other for a change. This should be a great match, and I'd like to think it will be a footnote in what has been a great feud that will continue past this event. The funeral segment was great, Team 3Ds return was great, and with their recent winning of the All Japan tournament, this is arguably the two greatest tag teams in the world going at it. The added aspect of a Tables match takes away from near fall excitement, but at least it's a match that Team 3D made famous and they know how to work. I have my doubts as to the company giving Team 3D the win yet, rather prolonging it to the January PPV in a rematch. AMW deserves the win, and it adds real heat if they can beat them at their own game.
Prediction: America's Most Wanted

Barbed Wire match
Sabu vs. Abyss
- This match has been extremely well booked with the buildup of Abyss being afraid of barbed wire through the last PPV. If I am not mistaken, this match will be ECW style with the ropes replaced by barbed wire, and who better to showcase this kind of match than Sabu. This really makes WWE's barbed wire cage match back in February embarassing by comparison, and maybe that's the point. I have no idea who should get the win given it seems Abyss always deserves it, but I'd go with Sabu this time. It'd be smart to start pushing him now for what will be an eventual match with Raven with the angle of going into Raven's past for opponents. Also, Abyss can afford the loss right now.
Prediction: Sabu

Christian Cage vs. Monty Brown
- This is a big match for both men. This is Christian's biggest match since wrestling John Cena back at Vengeance, and first TNA PPV match. If he is to be some sort of saviour to this company or change the tide, he needs to prove it here. As for Brown, if he is to be a future World champion, he'd better be able to handle this match against a grade A opponent. I don't have any doubts that'll happen though as his main event match with Jarrett last January was pretty damn exciting. I would take Brown on this one solely because it is unreasonable to have Christian come in and just leap frog all these other wrestlers right away. I'd expect interference from Team Canada and possibly a bond formed between the two of them after the match, and hopefully this will move Brown into title contention for January finally, and giving Cage a match with the loser of Rhino vs. Jarrett.
Prediction: Monty Brown

Raven vs. Mystery Opponent
- As of right now, the mystery opponent is rumored to be Kanyon. I say rumored because this has made the rounds so much that it would not shock me at all for TNA to change the plan and have somebody else wrestle and have Kanyon come out after the match instead. Chances are though it will be Kanyon, and somebody else will come out afterwards. At any rate, Raven will win. I don't really like this angle much and don't get why Raven has to go through so much for a rematch, when the original angle was they had no idea how Jarrett even got the shot at him to begin with. I guess they hope that when he finally does get his chance, people will tune in.
Prediction: Raven

Dale Torborg, Sonjay Dutt, & Chris Sabin vs. The Diamonds In The Rough
- An average match is saved by an angle involving Bobby Heenan and the Chicago White Sox' AJ Pierzynski, who I won't lie, I have no earthly idea who he even is. Anyways, Torborg is the former Kiss Demon in WCW, so he can work a match, but I'd expect the load to be carried by Dutt & Sabin vs. Elix Skipper in this match. Naturally the faces should win.
Prediction: Torborg, Dutt, & Sabin

4 Live Kru vs. Team Canada
- Hopefully they can end all this dissension garbage and just focus on delivering a good match here, and move away from Konnan vs. Kip James. I actually for once, like this match, which is rare because I usually have no interest in anything that 3LK do. The obvious ending is Kip somehow costing the team the match by accident, then the next month is spent focusing on that until the next PPV where it happens again. I'll be optimistic though and say that TNA will put 4LK over here, and just give them the win. I think the eventual angle to come out of this group will be when they are named #1 contenders, and can't decide which two of them will work the match, then the two that don't turn on the other two.
Prediction: 4 Live Kru

Roderick Strong & Alex Shelley vs. Matt Bentley & Austin Aries
- This is a great match, and will deliver as these guys always do. I'd expect Shelley to come out of this on top, as he's the only one that really seems to be going anywhere at any point in time. Bentley usually seems to pick up steam every now and then, but he seems to be able to get over out of nowhere. Wouldn't surprise me to see a problem afterwards, and a Bentley vs. Aries match for the future. Speaking if the future, we might see Frankie Kazarian back pretty soon, and it'd be interesting to see how he fits in with Bentley now, whether as a partner, or as an opponent.
Prediction: Strong & Shelley

There will also be a pre show match involving Jeff Hardy and 7 others in a 4 on 4 match. Hardy will obviously pick up the win, since him losing on a pre-show match is the most laughable thing the company could do right now. As always, you can check back here after for the results of the show.

GO -

After reading several things about CM Punk with WWE (HHH once again sticking his big nose in the business), would you rather see him in WWE (and right now being in OVW and on Heat) or getting a shot to challenge in TNA? It seems to me his style might be more appreciated in TNA.

Guess Tree would be better to ask... I would just love to see him anywhere again. If he shows up in WWE and he gets buried with some stupid gimmick its gonna just kill me, I know that. Those of us that have seen him up close and personal know that he has "the goods" and it would just be a shame to have them wasted. There is so much potential with him its ridiculous.

I remember Blue Hen said that after our very first ROH show - he made the "that guys gonna be a star" kind of quote.

But I have also read they don't particularly like the way he works in the ring and I wonder how he will match up size wise with some of the other heavyweights or if they just see him as a cruiserweight.

part of the reason i think Heyman is pushing Punk to the moon in OVW is because he knows that all he needs is a shot in the spotlight, and he will shine, and he's hoping Vince sees that.

interesting that Punk and Samoa Joe, two guys who had one of the finest "best of 3" series i've ever seen, including TWO 60-minute time limit draws, went in seperate directions regarding WWE/TNA.

i could easily see us, by this time next year, talking about both, with one being the top dog in TNA (heck, Joe is almost there now), and the other being near the top in WWE.

despite some of the stuff you may have heard about Triple H getting involved to keep Punk down, the reality, from what i understand, is that Triple H didn't like Punk's first couple of WWE matches, and, while i didn't see them, i heard they truly weren't all that great.

it wouldn't stun me to see Triple H end up being a big Punk backer. He knows his future in this business is behind the scenes, so he'll want to help develop stars. quite frankly, i could see HHH and Punk, along with a couple of other guys, in an Evolution/DX/4 Horsemen type group.

TNA Press Release: White Sox Manager Ozzie Guillen Attacks Simon Diamond

More White Sox Craziness!

OZZIE GUILLEN JOINS TNA WRESTLING FRACAS
Smashes Simon Diamond with chair

The World Series Champion manager has jumped into pro wrestling – with smashing success.

Ozzie Guillen delivered a vicious left-handed homerun with a steel chair to the back of Simon Diamond after the TNA Wrestling hot-shot arrived unexpected and unwanted at the Chicago White Sox spring training facility in Tucson, Ariz.

Diamond took batting practice, wearing complete White Sox garb, then confronted White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski and Dale Torborg, the team's strength and conditioning coach, with several teammates nearby.

Guillen came to the defense of his Sox, cracking Diamond with the chair. "Get off my field," Guillen shouted at Diamond.

Full highlights of Guillen's attack will air Saturday, March 18, on TNA iMPACT! (Spike-TV, 11 p.m. ET).

Diamond has had a running feud with Pierzynski and Torborg since last December. Diamond also took exception to TNA Wrestling executives presenting Pierzynski with a championship belt that the White Sox will award to their Player of the Game throughout the 2006 season.

"TNA is thrilled to work with the World Series Champion White Sox," said TNA announcer Mike Tenay. "The no-limit attitude of TNA Wrestling parallels the mindset of the Sox, manager Ozzie Guillen and players like AJ Pierzynski. It's been a great association to this point and we look forward to working with them throughout the 2006 season."

TNA Wrestling features a host of mat veterans, such as Sting, Jeff Jarrett, Konnan and Team 3D. The TNA roster also boasts the rising stars, such as Samoa Joe, AJ Styles and Chris Sabin, among others.

TNA Wrestling will move to a Thursday Night primetime slot on Spike TV starting April 13.

Photos and video of Guillen's chair-shot are available from TNA. And the actual chair used by Guillen, since signed by members of the White Sox and TNA Wrestling, soon will be auctioned by the Chicago White Sox to aid White Sox Charities. Visit www.whitesox.com for details

I love reading the PW Torch reactions... I think TNA is really starting to turn some heads. Anyone think Y2J will do something beyond this one time promo?

Andrew of Cambridge, Mass (9.5): Best match: Angle-Joe Showdown Worst match: None. Everything served its purpose in this episode. Everything. I know I sound a little too generous when talking about a show that featured a depressingly incoherent Jake Roberts and a squash match involving Norman Smiley, but there wasn't a single thing in this episode that detracted from the overall goal, in my view, which is to promote BFG and show that TNA is truly turning a corner. That last segment... wow, just wow. WWE had better be on notice, because TNA and Russo are simply outplaying them right now, and I never thought I'd be saying that.

Wes Holtsclaw of Roan Mountain, Tenn. (9.5): Best Match: Angle-Joe brawl. Worst Match: Christian Cage vs. Norman Smiley. Wow! This is the first time I've watched a TNA show in two years and I must say I came away very impressed. I watch WWE regularly, but just read the TNA results weekly, although I do have the Samoa Joe DVD and regularly watch his ROH matches on DVD. First thing's first, I think I'm going to clear my Thursday nights and keep the tube off on Mondays after tonight's show. TNA didn't have a lot of wrestling action tonight due to the fact that the show was mainly hyping Bound For Glory. They filled the non-wrestling slots with quality material. The opening segment with Jake Roberts was watchable. The Eric Young interview wasn't bad. Kevin Nash showed me how much I missed his sense of humor. The Jarrett-Sting hype was awesome as well. Then there was the debut of Angle - the reason I watched the show. When Angle busted Joe open, it got my blood boiling. It made me want to jump out of my seat like those in the Asylum. It immediately earned my purchase for Sunday's PPV. I wish I lived in the Detroit area, because you know Joe is going to play a role in that main event match and there's going to be even more drama between him and the "Olympic Octamaniac." Good job TNA!

Jason Owens of Aurora, Ill (7.5) Best Match:Joe-Angle segment. Worst Cage vs. Smiley. I have been a long time WWE watcher. All the way back to before WM 1 when I was just a little one. I have been bored with wrestling for the last few years, yes TNA has lately been somewhat rekindling that interest, but until tonight there was no genuine excitement. The show itself was not great overall, there were the usual ups and downs, with the X-Division and the eight-man match being the high points of the wrestling end of things. However, the Joe Angle segment was brilliantly done. While I knew it was going to happen, it still was somewhat unexpected. The perfect no-nonsense brutal confrontation that those two need to get things going. For the first time since TNA's beginning, my PPV dollars are going to TNA and not WWE this month. Screw Vince and his total lack of understanding of what makes wrestling worth watching. One more note: I never had much use for Fozzy as a band, but the video package at the end was actually pretty good, and how many people are thinking that Jericho is just going to sing and go home, TNA would be missing a huge bet to not get Jericho to enter the ring for at least a run in and smack down.

well, if TNA ends up with Jericho, then i think things are really on.

Angle defecting was huge, because it shows that there *is* an alternative.

throw in some of the ROH guys that came into TNA, like Samoa Joe, AJ, Daniels, and soon, Austin Aries (Starr), and TNA is really something.

Sting is going with some color again? I like it... its a cross between Crow Sting and Surfer Sting.

I like PWtorch reviews because they come from "joe public"
Jason Hadden of Owensboro, Ky. (10.0): Best match: Styles & Daniels vs. LAX. Worst match: None. This was easily the best PPV of the year, and one of the best shows I've ever seen. This was based on one simple premise, was I entertained or not? Yes, and not for just one match, but for the entire show. You could tell that everyone in TNA wanted this show to be a success. The fans wanted it to be a success and it was on so many levels. WWE, take note... It's amazing how exciting wrestling can be if you combine quality workrate with creative storytelling. Angle vs. Joe is gonna be amazing. I haven't been this excited about wrestling since Flair attacked Piper on WWF Superstars in '91. Angle seems new and at a legendary status in TNA, I just hope he can stay healthy and still perform. My only complaint is with some of the risks the wrestlers took tonight. For example, Abyss doesn't need to go head first into thumbtacks and risk losing an eye (which was almost the case). Beyond that, this was a killer show and TNA is going to be getting all my PPV dollars... sorry Vince.

I also think people watch RAW out of habit, not because its actually good programming. I would even argue that Smackdown is a superior show to RAW right now because of guys like Finlay and an real tag division and Kennedy etc... but because of the way it gets treated by WWE itself - like some stepchild - most people don't give it a fair shake. If it weren't on a Friday, I would likely be more inclined to watch it over RAW.

I also don't think any "industry expert" could deny that the TNA PPV's are superior to the ones that WWE presents. (perhaps not the "majors" like WM or Rumble or Summerslam which are generally very good, but I would agree especially vs. the single brand PPVs like No Mercy).

People just hate change and don't wanna learn new names and stories etc. They get lazy. I was just like this til Tree convinced me to go to a Ring of Honor show just over a year ago and my eyes opened.

But I guess its all about what you like - if you want Kevin Federline and Jackass and constant plugging of "The Marine" and DX merchandise and live sex shows then RAW is for you. If you want great wrestling without all the fluff (and maybe a little violence!) - watch a TNA PPV, give their Thursday night show chance (will be on 9 PM starting 11/16!) or go to an ROH show. Or even watch Chris Beniot or Finlay on Smackdown.

I can't believe people still don't realize that Smackdown is considered "2nd rate" only because it isn't live. People love RAW because it's RAW but alsot because its LIVE. If Smackdown were live, it would be bigger and better than RAW (like you said) but it's not. It's still a great show, but being live gives it that extra pizazz. (sp) Watch how the camera's work in a chick match on RAW, they are loving the potential of a nipple slip... Hey we can't help it, we're live! That's the only difference in RAW and the other shows, the live factor.

Thursday Night - 11/16/06 - 9 PM on Spike
Thursday night on SpikeTV will be a historic moment as TNA Wrestling’s “iMPACT!” goes primetime with its new start time of 9pm ET! Don’t miss your chance to witness this epic two-hour event! The following is the official preview for the broadcast, including the two huge featured main events:

MAIN EVENT: THE TNA IN-RING DEBUT OF KURT ANGLE VS. “THE MONSTER” ABYSS
It will be the first TNA Wrestling bout for Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle, who faces off against the juggernaut Abyss on Thursday night! By winning the “Fight For The Right” tournament, Abyss has earned a shot at the NWA World Heavyweight Title at “Genesis”, but first he will have to step into the ring against Kurt Angle! Can Angle stand up to TNA’s premiere destructive force in his return bout? Without a doubt, it will be a moment the wrestling world will be watching!

MAIN EVENT: SIX SIDES OF STEEL BARBED-WIRE: “THE WAR MACHINE” RHINO vs. CHRISTIAN CAGE

i was hanging out in the Ring of Honor chat room while the show was on. a lot of ROH fans were bashing it.

but i had a blast watching it. it was fun, and sort of a throwback to the days of the wrestling i grew up with, which was zany, retarded, and filled with WTF moments, which are all good things.

i haven't watched much TNA, but i tuned in for this, and i was glad for it. i will definitely become a regular viewer.

Petey Williams turning face and then getting beat down by LAX was great stuff. Samoa Joe just being an ass kicker was great stuff. the crowd going ballastic for Kurt Angle was great stuff. heck, even the cage match was really solid, and i loved the complete gonzoness of it.

this was good stuff.
