I thought I would do the occasional OVW recaps from watching the weekly television here locally.

10/20 Show

Matt Sydal beat Andrew Vaine with a shooting star press, Vaine is pretty much a muscle bound clod but Sydal has charisma and a nice variety of impressive high risk moves.

Jamin Olivencia and Ace Steele beat Justin "Ox" Larouche & Charles "The Hammer" Evans after Ox re-heeled The Hammer (they were heels to begin with) by walking out on him and Jamin and Ace hit a double team nauver for the pin. Jamin is a decent cruiserweight with some solid aerial moves, Ace may have trained Colt and Punk but he has displayed no charisma and really comes off as nothing special ringwise. Ox & Hammer are both big power guys, big but not juiced/jacked looking, The Hammer has great facials as he has some peculiar eyes and has some next level potential.

Shawn Spears and Jay Bradley had a backstage segment where Shawn again displayed personality and fun heel mic work as he is trying to get Bradley to kill the current tv champion Man Beast that Spears is embarassed he lost his title to.

Mike Kruel came out and did a long heel "I am too hurt to wrestle" heel promo until Atlas DaBone came out and called him a coward. Kruel sent one of his Los Locos minions in to fight Atlas, Atlas beat the first one some Kruel sent in the other one.
Los Locos have 0 potential and they I think only are on the roster as the Hispanic racial sterotype to have as part of Mike Kruel's multinational goon squad. Kruel does a heel gimmick as "your American hero" and dresses in red, white ,and blue as does his valet/ladies champ (former Diva search chick) Roucka. Kruel is a really good mat wrestler but I doubt he has the look WWE wants but is a real professional. DaBone has decent charisma, is really over with the fans. Atlas is tatted up, with a great physique and a wild bushy mane of hair. Has a different sort of character, has decent skills it seems and is looking better each week.

Roucka came out to takeover the in ring talk segment former ladies champ Katie Lea normally hosts. Roucka is better on the mic then almost all the past Diva Search winners, not that is saying much. She held a contest between Derrick Neikirk and Matt Sydal to settle a backstage spat. Neikirk was from DSW, and Roucka was obviously pro Neikirk. Sydal showed off some of his gymnastic skills then Neikirk jumped him and Roucka declared Neikirk the winner. Sydal needs to work on his promo skills and I have not seen enough of Neikirk to form an opinion.

Backstage segment with Man Beast, Colt, and Shawn Spears with Colt trying to reassure Man Beast.

Man Beast beat Jay Bradley by DQ in one of those "little guy wins a fluke match" to retain his tv title. Man Beast is a little guy that does a gimmick as he is a proud "mobilehomer". Seems like just a novelty act at this point but he is pretty funny on the mic. Bradley is a former DSW/OVW champion, good sized guy with a physique like a younger John Bradshaw and coincidentally a clothesline is his finisher.

In the main event we had a double countout between Antoni Polaski & Jacob Duncan. Match went for about 5 minutes until Polaski went to the floor and Duncan took them both out with a suicide dive over the top rope. After the match ended the brawled on the floor for about 5 more minutes and took out 5 security guards and 2 refs in the process. Eventually after Polaski hit a charge putting both of them through an officially RhinogorethruawallinTNA approved wall they both sold it like they were dead and the show went off the air.

Anthoni Polaski is the former Roadkill doing a nice huge heel gimmick, the only bigger manboobs I have seen on a current wrestler is BDV. Polaski sports mutton chops and little hair on his head. He really has done a great job as a heel and cuts a good heel badass promo. Duncan is the former Trytan from TNA, he is almost 7 feet tall about 300 pounds. He comes out wearing a mask that is part Mankind and part old Kane. He is now a face and is billed as the "man from the woods", when he talks it's a Billy Bob from Sling Blade sort of thing. Duncan is that size Vince loves and usually finishes people with some sort of chokeslam.

I was gonna say - Duncan did a suicide dive over the top rope?! that guy is that big dude from TNA i remember him... (which you later noted).
Learned a bit about some of the other OVW guys, good insight. I can see why Spears was drafted, sounds like he has some potential.

notes regarding the ROH guys since Tree and I have watched them for a while...

Sydal - Great look. Great moves. Lacks mic skills... sounds like a 14 year old kid lol

Ace - Good brawler, decent mic skill but potential certainly limited.

Colt Cabana - Polished and ready. Great technical wrestler - GREAT on the mic. Hilarious in the ring (in a comedy match type situation) and when he needs to get serious he can brawl too.

Mike Kruel - I think you are spot on there. Nothing really special, kind of generic looking.

wow..GO...you cut me deep there, bro...

I have been an ROH fan since show #1, traveling from the midwest all the way to Philly for that show. And now I've been to 50+ live ROH shows since.

I agree with all your assessments of the former ROHers in OVW...Sydal's facials make me want to slap him!
