Go Booker!

i didn't want to clutter up the boards with another thread for this or take any unsolicited advice from people I didn't know...
so..
my girlfriend is dragging me along shopping in NYC and in The Village tomorrow... which is fine. Not the end of the world. Can anyone reccomend any cool stores or places to eat there or anywhere else in NYC they really like to go for that matter - but off the beaten path - not Times Square mainly...

not that I may even see this before going tomorrow.. but we leave around noon. So if anyone sees this! that would fine. If not... just gonna wing it.

If it's a nice day, walk through Washington Square Park. For good burgers in the East Village check The Sidewalk Cafe on Ave A and 5th or 6th st. For lunch closer to the West Village check the Peculiar Pub on Bleeker (and LaGuardia I think). The crowd tends to be a little tourist-ey on the weekend nights for my taste but they have one of the best imported and microbrew bottled beer selections in the city, probably about 200 selections in all. For shopping your girl might start at south end of Union Square, lots of stores there. There's some interesting stuff on St Marks. If she wants to check some of the trendier shops I'm no help. There's also a lot of restaurants in the northeast side of Union Square, I recommend The Hearland Brewery and also the Thai restaurant located right next to Heartland. I also believe the Union Square Farmer's Market is open on Fridays which is something that might be worth a walkthrough.

If you find yourself over on East 7th St, I really suggest you step into McSorley's Ale House for a quick beer. Its the oldest pub in NYC and walking through the doors is like stepping into a time warp. It's worth it just to go into the men's room to see the ancient and freakishly gigantic urinals. I swear they look like 1950s era Cadillacs. They only serve two kinds of beer (McSorleys Ale and McSorleys Dark Ale) and it usually isn't very cold but its the only place I've ever seen where you can get an appitizer of sliced american cheese, saltines and spicy English mustard.
