0 Subject: Season IV Waivers and Transactions Thread

Posted by: Mattinglyinthehall
- Leader [1629107] Fri, Aug 27, 2004, 10:18

I'm sure that I thought there was a good reason to have a seperate transaction thread, but it just seemed redundant. If anyone has any issue with combining the two, speak up and I'll delete this and we can have two seperate threads. I do think it would help us keep track of things if we try to keep discussion out of this thread. We should be using this space to make claims, post that claims have become official and announce trades. As in the past, after every successful waiver claim you must post the new updated waiver order and also your new roster. For every trade that is announced, all involved parties must confirm the trade and everyone's new rosters must be posted.

I think we should also use this space to post our current rosters with our team names as we open the new season.

Good luck to everyone (even Wiggs :) and welcome, Bond, to the league.

actually, i'm not being funny. Kev never finalized the claim, so as far as i'm concerned Dragon is still available. we've established pretty set rules in regards to waiver pick up to avoid confusion. it reminds me of the confusion involving Terrell Owens this off season. someone didn't dot their i's and cross their t's, and look what happened.

Did it say anywhere you have to post it? I totally forgot too, and basically, when I looked the other day and saw MITH so nicely had updated my roster in the Standing and Stats page, I figured it was all good....

we've established pretty set rules in regards to waiver pick up to avoid confusion.

Tree I think you're going to have to show us the rules we set that specifically said that a claim does not become official until the confirmation is made. I tend to think that, as you say, the rules regarding keeping up the thread are there to avoid confusion, not, as you also seem to say, for bureaucracy. In fact, to my knowledge, I don't believe we've ever voted on any issue specifically regarding posting our waiver claim confirmations. Such strict and important protocals that wasn't part of the initial rules would surely require a vote, wouldn't they?

As far as I'm concerned Dragon belongs to Kev but if you think the rules state otherwise then lets see what you're referring to.

i have no problem backing down on this, whatsoever.

i just think it's important that we follow protocol, as we've had confusion in the past when that didn't happen.

I agree, and Kev definitely should have posted his confirmation, his new roster and the new waiver priority. In fact he still hasn't done so in spite of posting here since the claim became official, so Kev, please take care of that.

We need this thread to be kept up accurately. I won't always ctch the roster changes so by having this thread up to speed it is more likely that I and others will catch my slips more quickly. Also, if we do make a mistake, this thread is important to be able to refer to to see where and when the mistake happened and what we need to do to fix it.

Seems to me there are two train of thoughts here:
1.) There should be a time limit for claiming a person AFTER the 24 hour time limit of claim notification has expired.

Now whether that be one hour, ten hours, one day or whatever---that is the issue here. If the person remains unclaimed AFTER the limit of whatever period we designate, then that superstar should be thrown back into the free agent mix once again and thereby starting the whole process over again. OR....

2.) We could just go ahead and automatically designate any claimed player as official AFTER the 24 hour period has elapsed. It's relatively easy to figure out and since computer access may be an issue from time to time, this would limit any form of miscommunication to a bare minimum.

I am leaning heavily toward position #2 but would be open to other ideas including but not limited to position #1 if warranted by popular opinion.

if you win the claim - it should be all yours... granted, I have no life so I always get to formally post everything for my team, but understandably everyone can't check in and update... hell I can even post an official claims for people if they don't appear for a few days afterwards...

so in summation... you win the claim - they are yours IMO.

If I get Basham than from my POV this claim disappears....but I want the secondary claim on record so I don't forget and to be fair to Mike D as well....kind of like multiple claims on football waivers.

Gentlemen (and in this thread, I'll construe that term loosely):

A programming glitch of unidentified cause resulted in most of this thread getting vaporized last night. I was only able to recover the thread as of Novbember 4th. Hopefully, the lost material is not critical, although if it is, I can see what it will take to reclaim it from my hosting service's backup archives as of a more recent date. (Supposedly, I have that ability, but I have never needed to use it, so I don't yet know the process.)

This morning, I was fortunately able to reproduce the problem on this thread, and have made a programming change which seems to have worked. Unfortunately, I'm still not sure what went wrong. Additionally, I implemented a more thorough backup process. If anyone notices another problem (and it will be very obvious) when a reply is made to any thread, please report it ASAP. At a minimum, I should be able to quickly recover just about everything that is lost. Hopefully, I'll also be able to diagnose the source of the problem.

Unfortunately, we need the lost entries to determine our waiver priority------unless we can recreate it. For instance, we all know Great One is 12. I think I was around 8. Not sure.

Ooh! Ooh! now is my chance...

I claim the fans at Auburn Hills. Actually give me 7 of the fans, and Lillian Garcia. (grrrrrr!!!)

Kinda funny that Guru makes the joke about gentlemen here. I think this is one of the most interesting and best run leagues on the site. Its cool that mid season you guys can decide to tweak the league, discuss it and then vote on it. I don't see that kind of cooperation anywhere else.

(Plus I don't think angrylilpup comes thru here, so that definitely makes this one of the more civilized forums)

OK here's the order on Tues Nov 2 from post 98:

1. Farn
2. Bond
3. wiggs
4. Tree
5. MITH
6. Goatlocker
7. kev
8. Species
9. Great One
10. Mike D

Two days later, the following claims were made in this order:

102 Great One@Work
drop Stamboli
add Chris Masters
(went through)

103 Mike D
Waive: Jazz
Claim: Miss Jackie
(went through)

104 Species
Drop: Nidia
Claim: Danny Basham
(went through)

106 Species (secondary claim in case Basham claim doesn't pass):
Drop: Nidia
Claim: Miss Jackie
(didn't go through)

108 Great One@Work
drop Rodney Mack
add Josh Matthews
(didn't go through)

109 Tree
Drop: Jimmy Snuka, Jr.
Claim: Big Booty Alexis Laree

I'm pretty sure Great One's claim for Josh Matthews was trumped by the following:

Bond:
claim Josh Matthews
waive Gail Kim

And I think it was after that transaction that Great One made the following claims:

waive Mack
claim Shannon Moore

waive Masters
claim Viscera

So here's the order I have:
1. Farn
2. wiggs
3. MITH
4. Goatlocker
5. kev
6. Mike D
7. Species
8. Tree
9. Bond
10. Great One

I'll start a new thread. Everyone please post your current roster in the new thread.
