**Hulk Hogan’s head from an action figure was found in the annual Coastal Cleanup along Delaware’s coast. The newspaper headline read as follows: “Coastal Cleanup Finds Hulk Hogan’s Head". A bit of a strange headline if you ask me.

Coastal Cleanup finds Hulk Hogan's head

Box springs, a rusted propane tank and the head from a Hulk Hogan action figure were among the trash plucked from Delaware's shoreline Saturday as volunteers fanned out from Fox Point State Park to Fenwick Island for the annual Coastal Cleanup.

In the tiny bayfront village of Kitts Hummock in Kent County, volunteers turned the cleanup into a community event complete with a weenie roast on one of the town's two streets.

"Probably 70 people are out here," said Patty Broomley, site captain for the Kitts Hummock cleanup.

Out on the beach, 15 volunteers from St. John's Lutheran Church in Dover - 10 children and five adults - combed the sand for debris.

Among the items they salvaged was a tangled fishing net, an item that can claim the lives of sea creatures unlucky enough to become ensnared in its nylon web.

"The biggest thing we found was the fishing net. It took like 10 of us to drag it up the beach," said volunteer Sharon Petersen, who with husband Don helped supervise the youngsters.

Ten-year-old Olivia Holmes, of Smyrna, said it wasn't easy for her to get up early on a Saturday morning, but she was glad she did, even if some of her finds were not so pleasant.

"We found a sand shark on the beach, but it was pretty gross and nasty," Olivia said.

The youngsters also found a rusted automobile mired in the sand, a vehicle that once belonged to a local character known as Bicycle Bob.

Bicycle Bob, who died about 10 years ago, sometimes went for a spin along the beach - but when the auto got stuck years ago he left it there.

Now it occasionally reappears when waves scour away the sand that hides it.

A few miles to the north, a group of young volunteers from the Capital school district combed the shoreline at Port Mahon, where the waves of the Delaware Bay lap perilously close to the road.

Kim Cosetti, 17, Melissa Devine, 16, and Kari Browning, 17, all of Dover, said they didn't find a lot of interesting stuff, but they found a lot of plain old stuff.

"A bunch of cans," Kim said.

"Shotgun shells," Kari added.

"A crate," Melissa chimed in.

While their haul was relatively mundane, another member of the crew found an unusual prize: six bags of chicken livers.

The number of volunteers who participated statewide was not yet counted, nor was the total amount of trash they picked up along the coast.

But in the last Coastal Cleanup, 1,135 volunteers picked up 17,564 pounds of trash, according to the state Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control. DNREC sponsors the cleanup, along with Conectiv and Playtex Products, which supplies latex gloves for the volunteers.

It is hard to determine whether the amount of trash on Delaware's coast is increasing or decreasing from year to year, because the amount collected depends in part on the number of volunteers participating, according to DNREC spokesman Jason Gleockler.

one of my running buddies at the ROH shows (the esteemed Mary-Kate Grasso) took those pics of Allison and Becky.

Allison's brother is also in the business. you may have heard of him - Steve Corino...
