I figured I start a thread for fantasy.wwe.com smack talk, since "Join my league" isn't very descriptive.

After garnering 87 points last night on Smackdown, I'm up to 9th place in the Evolution standings, 5 points ahead of Great One's The Franchise, who is in 10th. There are 76 paid teams in this division, so it's pretty impressive that two gurupies are so high up, but I intend to go even higher with my eight Smackdown superstars wrestling at No Mercy. Most of the teams ahead of me are pretty Raw-centric.

My WWR is 621, and I'm guessing Great One is around 650 or so, but they don't show anyone below the top 500.

Is anyone else playing?

I went with an all cheapie roster with a mix of RAW/Smackdown talent... like my strategy so far.

Clearly, there's no point in getting someone like JBL. I set next week's rosters so I have as many cheap champs as I can.

Well, the all-Smackdown roster helped. I'm up to #3 in Evolution Standings and #184 wwr.

I'd like to do some roster sampling. I bet Kenzo is the most owned wrestler.

interesting things that have arised...

Question: "Shouldn't the lumberjacks on RAW (10/4) receive 'match points' for participating in the Lumberjack Match?"
- Barry, Parts Unknown

Answer: The lumberjacks are not considered participants in the match; they are considered part of the stipulation of the match. For example, a special ringside enforcer is considered a part of the stipulation, not a participant. By "participant" we mean an active wrestler billed in a match.
OCTOBER 6, 2004

Question: "Will Gene Snitsky and Kane be awarded foreign object points for offensive weaponry used in their Weapon of Choice Match at Taboo Tuesday?"
- Brandon, Parts Unknown

Answer: Snitsky and Kane will not receive foreign object points for the "Weapon of Choice" (either a lead pipe, steel chair or steel chain). That object will be totally legal in the match. Any other object will count for foreign object points, though. Visit the foreign objects section for more information.

Question: "Will Carlito Caribbean Cool receive finishing move points in his debut this week (Week 3)?"
- Manu, Parts Unknown

Answer: Carlito won't receive finishing move points until he has established his finisher on television. If his finisher is announced during his SmackDown! debut, then it will be added to the official list for Week 4. He has no finishing move for Week 3.

SEPTEMBER 24, 2004

Question: "On Monday Night RAW, Chris Jericho was Superkicked at the end of the match by HBK. Even though it was broken my other means, other people, he still didn't lose to Shawn's pin after his finisher. Will this count for points?"
- Bill, Parts Unknown

Answer: The Fantasy Board will give wide latitude to "finishing move kickouts." When a Superstar escapes a pin attempt following a finisher -- even by third-party interference -- points WILL be awarded. Finisher kickouts will include escaping a submission hold, as well.
Question: "How do we know what the Finishing Moves are for new or returning Superstars such as Gangrel and Viscera? It is possible that Undertaker can kick out of these?"
- Chivas, Parts Unknown

Answer: To register for finisher kickout points, the Superstar MUST be on the WWE Fantasy roster with a listed finishing move. The Undertaker couldn't receive kickout points because Viscera wasn't listed on the roster at the time of the match. The Fantasy Board will add Superstars to the official Fantasy roster as soon as approval is granted from the show's General Manager.

Question: "Do foreign object shots count at any time, or only during a match? What about the tranquilizer dart and the scissors on SmackDown?"
- James, Parts Unknown

Answer: Object shots WILL COUNT at any time, so long as the attack hasn't been seen on television before. However, we will only award points for objects that inflict clear physical pain on the opponent. Therefore, the tranquilizer dart WILL get points, but the scissors and electric razor WILL NOT. Third parties (Superstars who interfere during someone else's match) CAN earn points for object shots.

Question: "Can you please explain the difference between a No-Contest and a disqualification?"
- Kathy, Parts Unknown

Answer: The referee MUST RULE a match a disqualification in order for the Fantasy Board to officially score the match as such. If there is no winner declared, that's a No-Contest. The Fantasy Board will make every effort to contact the referee for an official ruling if none is given at the area or on television. Keep a constant eye on our "After Further Review" section, where we will post scoring updates based on referees' decisions.

Question: "How do appearance points work with someone who comes out during a match, like when Christian came down during the HBK/Jericho match?"
- Jonathan, Syracuse, N.Y.

Answer: Christian would receive one set of appearance points (3 points) for showing up during an ongoing match. He WON'T get extra appearance points if the match goes to commercial.

Question: "Can a champion earn 'retain title' points without winning the match? What if he's disqualified?"
- Luke, Connecticut

Answer: Yes. If the champion leaves his match still the champion, it's likely that he will earn "retain title" points. This includes "No-Contest" finishes. A champion WILL receive "retain title" points if he/she gets disqualified. A champion WILL NOT receive points if the match never begins or it's a "Non-Title Match."

Question: "Will you lose your points if you switch Superstars in Week 2?"
- Aaron, Parts Unknown

Answer: Prior to the weekly deadline, select your Superstars. Any points earned will stay with you throughout the game. Feel free to switch Superstars for Week 2; you won't lose your accumulated points. However, if you pick up a new Superstar for Week 2, you WILL NOT get his Week 1 points. It's week-to-week.

SEPTEMBER 23, 2004

Question: "Will I get points every time my Superstar uses his finishing move?"
- Arnold, Boston

Answer: No. A finishing move ONLY earns fantasy points when it directly results in a VICTORY (i.e. pinfall, submission).

Question: "What if I own Bubba Ray Dudley, but I don't own D-Von, do I get win points when the Dudleys win a tag team match? What if D-Von made the pin?"
- Mark, Lexington, Ky.

Answer: Each member of a tag team receives win points when the team wins a match -- regardless of who scored the pinfall. The same goes for win title/retain title points. You DO NOT have to own both members of a tag team to earn tag match points.

Question: "I have Carlito Caribbean Cool on my roster. Will I get appearance points for his commercials?"
- Steve, East Rutherford, NJ

Answer: Pre-recorded, pre-packaged Superstar promotional videos do not earn fantasy appearance points.

Question: "How will finishing move points work during stipulation matches such as a Steel Cage Match?"
- Todd, Parts Unknown

Answer: Superstars CAN earn finishing move points in most stipulation matches. If Randy Orton, for example, hits an RKO and then escapes over the top of the Steel Cage, finishing move points WILL be awarded. In this case, the finishing move still led directly to the over-the-top/out-the-door victory.

Question: "Would a victory in a best-of-three falls match on RAW/SD! be considered one win (worth 7 fantasy points) or three wins (worth 21 points)?"
- Stephen, Parts Unknown

Answer: A best-of-three falls match on RAW/SD! is still considered one match. A win in this case would be worth 7 points. However, a "series" such as the recent best-of-five series between John Cena and Booker T consists of individual matches over time. Each match can lead to win points.

Question: "At what point is an attempted move considered a finishing move? If Randy Orton tries for the RKO but is pushed away, does that count as a 'finishing move kickout?' If Ric Flair goes for the Figure Four Leglock but is kicked off, does that count?"
- Will, New York

Answer: To count toward kickout points, a finishing move must be executed or locked in. Orton would have to hit the RKO, followed by a pin kickout. Flair would have to fully lock in the Figure Four, then have the hold reversed or broken up for "finishing move kickout" points to be awarded.

Question: "I'm getting weird salaries for my Superstars and sometimes points in weeks that haven't even happened yet. Can you tell me why this is?"
- Robbie, Oakland, Calif.

Crap. I knew Carlito would be good, but I had no idea he'd win the US Title in his debut! For a cool million he should have been a no-brainer to pick up. Oops. Good to see Cena making him look good, just like Kurt Angle did for Cena a while back.

I picked up Bob Holly because I think he's got a decent chance to score next week, in a hardcore match with JBL. It might be the last match of the night (main event points) and it'll probably use a foreign object or two.

The only guy on my roster I'm unsure about is Luther Reigns. There are a whole bunch of guys (Rosey, Tyson Tomko, Rhyno) who could score and who I don't have. Hmm.

Haha. He got 50 points. Wow. For the minumum. I ditched Luther and Spike and got 5 guys for the minimum. I now have 13 players on my roster. Just hoping someone like Rodney Mack can wrestle on the big program and get a win. That'd be helpful. But as it is, I think it'll be hard to make up points. I'm down to 560 WWR.

Well, the Franchise is moving on up - 4th in Evolution standings after a huge Raw. I only got 14 points (thanks Tyson) and am 9th in Evolution standings. Still not bad, but not where I was.

I see you've got a 10 man roster. That works well. I guess there isn't much reason why Dupree would outscore, say, Grenier, so you got quite a bit of cash out of the deal. It'll be all Raw next week, so I think I have to ditch Jindrak and possibly even Kenzo. Heh.

I don't understand how some of these guys pick
say Kane up for 5 million or whatever when you can mix and match that money for a much better roster.

Carlito Caribbean Cool $1,000,000 0
Gene Snitsky $1,000,000 3
Kenzo Suzuki $2,500,000 0
Mark Jindrak $1,000,000 0
Rob Conway $2,750,000 34
Shelton Benjamin $2,750,000 0
Sylvain Grenier $2,750,000 31
Trish Stratus $2,750,000 28
Tyson Tomko $1,000,000 8
Victoria $2,500,000 3
Totals $20,000,000 107

Not bad. Taboo Tuesday is pretty rough because you don't know who is going to wrestle. You're putting a lot of faith in Shelton Benjamin (though that might not be a bad idea). I don't think Trish has a match on Tuesday, by the way.

Christy and Gene are musts this week because they both have PPV matches and cost the minimum.

I splurged for Edge this week. He could be huge, getting last match points, match points, and win points on BOTH Monday and Tuesday PLUS he could win the title.

Granted, he could lose Monday and not wrestle Tuesday, which would be a huge swing, but I really don't think they're stupid enough to have Benoit or HBK wrestle HHH at Taboo Tuesday.

I did keep Kenzo and Carlito for potential title defenses on next week's Smackdown.

Well, now I have buyer's remorse. Most of the top teams have a diva (Stacy, Nidia, Victoria) in the slot where I have Kenzo, for about the same price. All the Divas scored last night and should score tonight as well. Kenzo won't match that.

I guessed Edge correctly, but now I'm thinking HHH would have been nice since he'll wrestle the last match and defend a title tonight.

Not very. They have some very minute stats that we would never want to keep track of. Plus they have TSN style rosters, which takes some of the fun out of it. I have, however, enjoyed playing and it would be nice to have a league of buddies playing together.

Ugh, you're now 200 points ahead of me. I'm still 9th in Evolution standings and you're 2nd. Think Heidenreich will win the WWE title on Thursday?

Tomko's gotta be out. Viscera was a "one night only problem solver" last night. I'd probably ditch Tomko for Viscera. But with any luck, Viscera does nothing and Tomko's back next week.

Your lineup is pretty rock solid. You'll need to differentiate to win, but in general I don't think there are many moves you can make.

It's even better in the small season. My biggest problem with SW was always that you could make All-Star teams by the end of the season. By September, callups didn't really make a difference. In an 8-week season, you'd have to concentrate on making money, but also on points.

Wrestler Salary
Billy Kidman $2,750,000
Carlito Caribbean Cool $1,000,000
Gene Snitsky $1,000,000
Heidenreich $2,500,000

Shelton Benjamin $2,750,000
Viscera $1,000,000

I figure Lita's going to win the women's title and Kidman might win the cruiserweight (although I think it's Chavo, but then I couldn't afford Viscera). The rest all have Survivor Series matches.

I'm sitting at 8th in Evolution Standings, about 700 overall. Great One is in the top 50 and 2nd in Evolution by about 10 points. This is the final week.

just read something that said an advertised houseshow next month said Christian vs. Y2J for the IC title... not sure how much credence to lend it but figured it was worth a shot.

The ??? member is on Angle's Survivor Series team. I have a gut feeling its gonna be a new big man to offset Big Show - along the lines of Matt Morgan. And perhaps another addition to Angle's group. Who knows - it could just be Spike Dudley! lol...
