Against my better judgement, I purchased a 4-pack for $7.95 on Jan 27th and have only used one of the 4 credits. The 3 remaining credits expire on Feb 26th so if there are any NYT archived articles that anyone would like for me to use a credit on, send me the link and I'll access it, save it and send it to you. |

There is supposed to be a "backdoor" to the archive via the emailed links. Anyone remember it? Does it still exist? I think Ryan posted it at DPS awhile back.

I think it was via printable pages, but you might need to know the address before hand.

You can use this link generator to create a link to a story that will not disappear behind the archive wall. But bili is right, you have to do this *before* the story is in the archive. As far as I know, anyway. But at least this is there if you think you might want to get back to a story at some point down the road.

Cool, JKP. I may have to start doing that.

Linked from that generator is this page, btw, which has archive-free links for all NYT articles for the past few days. The source code for that app is here.
Now, an enterprising young man might see this as an opportunity to -- with a few simple tweaks to dump the feed info into a database -- turn this into his own personal NYT archive, searchable at least by headline, byline, date, section and teaser sentence.

Use one of the credits to get the article about Guru from a few years ago.

I always thought it was pretty stupid to go to pay for their opinion and archives. Now both will be free again.
I think people like Krugman and Brooks probably bitched about not being as widely read and linked.
