A controversial city ordinance has led to a number of protests and now a trial. An Orlando man is the first person to face a jury for feeding the homeless.
definitely a seemingly absurd law. i would like to find more info though, because i think the reporting is pretty sloppy, as there doesn't appear to be any comment sought from those who made the law in the first place. |

This went on in Seattle a maybe 7-8 years ago.
I don't know if there were arrests but the police stopped "Food not Bombs"from feeding the homeless.
The excuse was something like "you don't have a food serving license. The reality was they didn't want all the homeless hanging out in a tourist area waiting for the free meal.

This also happened in New Orleans and through Mississippi, post Katrina.
The powers that be kept trying to shut down the unsanctioned soup kitchens. Unfortunately they were some of the only kitchens actually functioning.
So they just kept being forced to move, yet serving 1000s of hungry people a day that the government couldn't manage to feed.

Always nice to see the government is protecting us from things like this.
