Some Britons Too Unruly for Resorts in Europe
Even in a sea of tourists, it is easy to spot the Britons here on the northeast coast of Crete, and not just from the telltale pallor of their sun-deprived northern skin. They are the ones, the locals say, who are carousing, brawling and getting violently sick. They are the ones crowding into health clinics seeking morning-after pills and help for sexually transmitted diseases. They are the ones who seem to have one vacation plan: drinking themselves into oblivion.

I certainly experienced this phenomenon last year in Krakow, Poland. Many Brits flew over on "alcohol holidays" and got pissed, falling over drunk, loud and obnoxious. Remember when we were considered Obnoxious Americans. Ha, Englishmen have certainly taken that crown.

Not every story is lamentable...

"In Laganas, on the Greek island of Zakinthos, more than a dozen British women were charged in July with prostitution after taking part, the authorities said, in an alfresco oral sex contest."

Drunk Brits have become a big story here in Dubai also.

The issue really came to a head a month or two ago when when a British couple were caught having sex on a public beach.

No get this, in the conservative Middle East, the cops gave them one warning.

The woman was nude and sitting on the guys lap riding him. The cops came up and told them to stop. There were literally other people on the beach 10 meters away. (This was at night).

I would think in a lot of American cities you wouldn't even get the first warning.

10 minutes later the cops come back and they are at it again. When the cops confronted them the Brits became belligerent and actually talked smack back, including insulting their religion.

Well they are in big trouble now it seems. (Although not in jail they are held in country on bail)

Their excuse when hauled in was that they had been at an all day buffet that included all you could drink booze (Very popular events here)

All this has brought a lot of mention in the press of how "drunk" the Brits in Dubai are apt to get. Some of the harshest letters to the editors are from their own country men.

I never go to the right parties when I'm in Laganas...

Actually you eat the buffet, but it comes with all you can drink booze.

Some have just wine and beer. Others have mixed drinks.

There a Tuesday night one I go to twice a month. All you can eat Italian, start with a 12 foot table selection of nice quality antipasto, then you pick ingredients including several types of seafood from another 12 foot table and give it to a chef to cook either pasta or pizza.

You can have seconds if you like. Then it's all you can drink red or white wine, no limit and they keep that glass full. All for the price of $25.00. This is no crap restaurant, it's in a 5 star Movenpick hotel.

Fridays are a big buffet day (Start of the weekend here) There are at least 2 dozen restaurants in major hotels with all you can eat buffet's and most have all you can drink mixed drinks. Cost runs from $30 to $150 depending on the location and the quality of the booze.

The Brits were at an "all you can drink champagne" buffet.

Here's one for you Baldwin...

Waxy O’Conner’s: Brunch at Waxy’s is nothing short of legendary, but it is not an afternoon for the faint-hearted: Dhs65 (About $15) buys you five drinks plus a breakfast buffet and carvery, and by 7pm most people are dancing on the tables.

Live music is courtesy of a DJ.

Brunch is served from 12-7.30pm on a Friday and costs Dhs65 per person. Includes the option of five free alcoholic drinks.
