Congratulations, Great One. That was writing the textbook.

Now I get to run Trout up against you next year with about 4 less keepers, as this year was a confluence of good things coming together for me.

No Kenley Jansen and 4 other closers for me next year, most likely.

But at least I now have a great textbook to guide me.

Thanks. Maybe I'll get some help from Tulowitzki, Crawford and Lester next time around myself. Not sure how I did that without 3 of my keepers participating. Well Tulo wasn't a keeper, traded Hanley for him, but it was a keeper slot nonetheless and only got 75 AB's out of him.

My post keeper MVP's were draft picks Encarnacion, Gio and adding AJ Burnett (there's a shocker!).

and now the fun stuff...

re:302 Boldwin - Hudson - Yeah, Ill take a guy with a 3.22 ERA 2.14 WHIP last year and you can take the next hype that comes along and hope he gets to that level.
re:305 GO - Well thats hard to compare, but Ill take Gio Gonzalez who you passed on to get Hudson.

As you already mentioned above, if you took Gio instead of Hudson you would have won easily. No doubt. The easy - you left 3 definite points in K's on the table with that choice and would have had a some various more points in W's, ERA, WHIP.

You put the finger right on the hole in my game during the draft. Gio Gonzalez, Gio freaking Gonzalez. I did not have as secure a handle on my pitchers as I did early in the Poliboard league. The first pitcher I've taken in the draft has been a bust for years now. Altho I do have the two best pitching keepers I've ever had, so there's that.

I think we picked up two good managers this year, with rebuilding projects on their hands obviously but they did some good things.

Everyone else spent some time in the vicinity of 90 pts at one point or other and there isn't any group of elite managers I'd rather be competing against.

how about these insights from Nerve...

re: 858 nerve - Baldwin stop with the humble brag, no one is going to catch you unless half your team gets injured.

re:716
GO - and I guess that killer draft with 40 minutes prep did ok --> nerve - Its a long season brah. Lets not get ahead of ourselves.

I think we likely to pass an extra bench spot for next year too, right? So that's progress. Anyone in particular against it? Tree, Boldwin, GO, nerve I know were for it...

You absolutely were keeping an eye on me all along I know - despite what people like Nerve were saying about you having it locked up. I was just staying quiet even though I also knew I had plenty of points on the board.

While the draft debate of Hudson/Gio proved to be a difference maker -- it wouldn't have been enough to overcome if not for my late season SB push mainly by Everth Cabrera - I think he made the biggest difference. That guy gave me 11 SB's in just 14 starts in Sept.

You had more closely contested categories than I did. I could either address the one point in SB and one point in Runs on the batting side...If I had an extra batting slot and could have micromanaged it for SB's...I could have thrown away great batters in hot streaks for empty R/SB types, wasn't real keen on that idea.

...or concentrate on 4 points in wins, 4 points in WHIP and 4 points in ERA that were up for grabs.

Wins, ERA and WHIP are just brutal categories to manage in a short time period when your pitchers are dead-arming at the end of the year. I don't care how good of a manager you are, no one can guarantee he won't have a bad 2-3 weeks in those.

I can remember someone pulling his hair out for several months pleading for his pitchers to finally give him some wins, I'm looking at you GO.

Nerve spent many fruitless months streaming pitchers before it started to click for him.

I started to climb in pitching too when I quit hoping Lester would remember how to pitch and didn't start him much of the second half (while he took up a bench spot)... and also Gio and Verlander were lights out in Sept.

Congrats GO. Thanks for saving us from a decade of reminders of a tilted crown!

Nice season, Boldy. I am guessing you were one trade for a starter away. Everyone has their achilles heel. Coulda had Yu for a 2nd or 3rd if you'd asked. Was shopping him.

Congrats GO. Nice job

I went back and looked at your draft again. I still believe it was not your draft that won it, it was the work after the draft.

Gio and Encarnacion were the only two highly leveraged picks.

I think you worked hard during the season, and really put it together at the end. looking at your team now it's somewhat hard to completely understand how you won. (although I am sure you know how)

Baldwin you have the best keeper in baseball.

That was a pretty devastating downfall. Although I think really Tree's prediction was wrong. He seemed to imply with certainty you didn't stand a chance when in reality you were right there until the last day. It was fun watching the pennant race here.

Cheers

my prediction that it was a marathon and not a sprint was wrong?

did you think i meant to imply he would drop from first place within a few weeks?

i was pretty clear in my statement, and i was right. it wasn't until the last few days that GO surpassed Baldwin, and even then, it was back-and-forth and very tight.

but i've played fantasy sports with GO for a very long time, in lots of genres. i know his style. i know he plays from behind - hell, i led wire-to-wire in our fantasy hoops league, going for a three-peat, and he beat me on the last day of the season to de-throne me.

Baldwin had a great fantasy season, and he's right - he had some phenomenal players, and will for a long time.

but it's a marathon, not a sprint. and GO stretched his neck out at the finish line.

Looking at chart view in Standings (especially the Interactive version) is pretty interesting. I kind of bottomed out around 90 points in June and then steadily climbed back up.

I started fixing SB's in July getting up to 10 points there and then got those final 2-3 points in Sept when I added like 6 guys that steal bases.

A month into the season I had a ONE in W's and somehow turned that mess around to a perfect 14.

I lead saves the majority of the year and then the last month when Boldwin got close I let him have it and focused my energies elsewhere figuring that one point wasn't worth the fight. I think that was a major factor.

Damn, I forgot about stealing the Jeepers Keepers hoops league from Tree this year, no wonder he didn't register the league yet!

That was like a 5 point swing in one day to jump from 3rd and steal 1st. Been a good year for these last second comebacks.

Tree my prediction that it was a marathon and not a sprint was wrong?

I didn't say that.

"while Baldwins got a solid team, I don't think he finishes on top."

yeah he didn't "finish on top", he was right there until the last day, he had an excellent chance of winning, so yes, I think you were wrong. (now Tree will emphatically argue why he was, and is always right)

My biggest negative was stolen bases. When Jacoby Ellsbury suffered a major injury at beginning of the year, I was screwed and needed to adjust. The difficulty is, being a keeper league, It was difficult to just drop a couple of quality potential keepers to pick up a couple average players who are good at SB's. I knew what I needed to do but didn't want to give up power for SB.

In the end it wouldn't have mattered the pitching never came through, particularly after Beachy went down.

Going into off season not a bad pool of keepers to pick from

C Weiters
1B Adrian Gonzales (Hope he bounces back?)

i'm still trying to figure out why you're saying i'm wrong.

i said Baldwin wouldn't finish on top, and he didn't finish on top.

there's nothing wrong about that statement.

i never said anything about his chances - it was obvious he had an excellent chance of winning. i just said i didn't think he would. again, how is that statement wrong?

well, excepting i didn't make the prediction that day, but rather almost 3 months earlier, when you were easily a dozen points ahead of your nearest competition, if not more.

and never mind the fact that it was considerably more accurate than any prediction you've EVER made on these boards...
