OK the "personal" Dubai website is done.
I gave this announcement it's own thread because I was afraid it would get lost in the other Dubai thread, I appreciate your indulgence of that.
Also thought it would be a good place to add your comments if you have the time. Constructive criticism is more then welcome and as Zen will see I took some of his advice from the first edition of this web page.
A few points.
I have one bug. The Al Ain thread doesn't seem to be working. I've since reloaded it and hopefully it will repair itself, but it's a small page so a minor detail.
This is a very "beefy" web site. I kept the photo files big so they wouldn't degrade but it really takes time for some of the bigger pages to download. Sorry for that. Maybe have another "thing" you are doing on the internet while you wait for the bigger files.
You can ignore the 2 "notes" pages since they are virtually all pulled off the political guru dubai threads.
The website is written and censored with family in mind so it's very G rated. My elementary school aged niece and nephew will be looking at it so it is self censored for that audience. Perhaps I will write the "adult" version with a new domain name and preferably long after I've left. I've also kept controversy and politics out of it which is well advised when living here.
Please do give feed back, positive or negative, I take negative feedback well.
I received some constructive criticism on my business website and used all of it...fresh set of eyes as they say.
This is my 3rd website. The first was the original website about Dubai. The second was my business website, the third is this effort.
I spent a great deal of time on it but the Apple does make it easy. This was all done on a program that comes free with every apple computer. The first website I thought you were stuck with the basic layouts offered. I later came to realize you could make enormous changes to the templates and anyone who saw the original site will see big changes and hopefully improvement.

Great photos, Nerve, lots of very nice shots.
I REALLY don't like the font you chose, it's so dated, I'm really surprised you settled on that. I much prefer the font you used for the links up at the top.
The six photos under the "New photo section" should be links to those slideshows. It seems weird that they are not. I know that the links are up at the top, but why not make those photos links as well.
I love the camel shot on the front page. I think it should be centered and go across the whole page. Your introduction text should be below it and I think you should expand on it.
I know I am not alone in wondering where are Nerve's insightful essays on his stay. We know you can write, share with us, my man.
And who is the fetching young woman? How can you not even mention her name?
Again, I love the photos, but I want to read some more about them, about life in Dubai in general, but just not in that font :) And italicize Arabic words.

Believe me I know...If I knew how to do it I would, it definitely crossed my mind. I don't think it's possible with this program, remember there is no HTML.
The women is Jin Ling my girl friend, we've been together about a year. I guess I just don't like making things too personal so I left a lot of that type detail out. My hang up.
Zen you are going to have to live with the font because it will take a whole lot of work to go back and change it all but I will keep an open mind to it for the future. I would like to hear others comments about the font.
I really appreciate the feedback Zen.
Sigh...I supposed I should go back and insert girl friends name and status...

No matter how appealing Dubai looks on the surface something is still fundamentally radically wrong with it. Islamic jurisprudence whereby any raped woman is almost automatically labeled the criminal because the burden of proof on her side is impossibly high and men in Islam are not expected and required to control themselves around women.

Boldwin, while that is very troubling and worth a discussion, I don't think this is the appropriate thread for it. Please find another thread to discuss this in and don't junk up a thread NC's necroed thread about his personal stuff in dubai with this.
