Prospect Draft & Rules
Straight Draft, Reverse order of standings
To be conducted BEFORE the Supplemental Draft
Under 300 AB's or 125 IP to be draft eligible
You can retain up to 3 prospect eligible players from one season to next
There are 5 rounds in the prospect draft - minus a pick for each prospect you carry over.
Any player at any level (as long as they are under limits) can be drafted as prospect. College, International, Little League etc.

Prospects may be called up in-season and can be sent back and forth to prospect list until they meet the prospect thresholds.
If you drop them after they meet the threshold, any team is eligible to add them.
If they reach the threshold while not on the active roster you must call them up within 7 days or lose their rights
If a prospect reaches the limit within 7 days or regular season end they can only be kept as a regular keeper.
Prospect rights may be traded.
Prospect picks may be traded as long as receiving team has enough spots to make the draft pick at time of draft.
You can trade for as many prospects as you like - however you'll need to have 3 or less at the time of the Prospect Draft

One small thing to look forward to for next year. Gerriot Cole will be under 125 ip after his last start essentially giving me an 8th keeper. Difficult decision will be which 2 prospects to drop.

It's been a strange year for me when I have:

.332 11 HR Chris Johnson

.315 12 HR Yadier Molina

.301 11 HR Howie Kendrick

.290 14 HR Billy Butler

.281 13 HR Martín Prado

and then I have anchors dragging me down...

.239 7 HR Granderson
.252 6 HR Rollins

Cargo with only 391 plate appearances

You have to step back from that and wonder how I could survive that to be battling for third.

I play in 3 rotoguru leagues.

I play in 10 ESPN public leagues

I play in 3 yahoo public leagues.

I did not draft Granderson or Rollins in even one of those leagues.

Rollins is not dragging you down, the fact you chose to put him anywhere near your team is dragging you down.

Do post season AB count toward a prospects losing prospect eligibility?

For example if a player finishes he regular season with 122 AB, then during the wild card game he bats 5 times, is he now over the limit? or regular playoffs or world series etc.

I think not, but I am not sure if the issue has ever exactly come up.

Do post season AB count toward a prospects losing prospect eligibility?

out of curiosity, why do you think they even would?

if they don't count towards a player's regular season stats in MLB, why would they count here?

(that being said, if there's a tie in the standings, and an additional game is needed to break that tie, i am pretty sure those stats count toward the regular season)

Yahoo Sports only counts MLB regular-season games for scoring purposes that occur during the normal regular-season schedule to end on Sept. 29, 2013.
Therefore, if a one-game playoff is needed to determine a division or wild card winner, scoring from this game will not be applied to Fantasy leagues.
In addition, the Fantasy season will not be extended for rainouts and/or makeup games that take place after the regular season is scheduled to end.

ESPN does NOT count any bonus tiebreaker play-in games FYI... they consider it a playoff game essentially and not game 163.

By far the biggest mistake I made this year was trading Amit Scherzer and Latos for a 5th round pick while various pundits from the peanut gallery assured all of us that draft picks were more valuable then a player who would have been drafted in an early round.

I wonder if that mind set will change after witnessing Amit use that move as at least a significant step toward his epic season?

In retrospect, that trade certainly was a miscalculation by me.

I went back through the league's history and that was the most dominating performance ever. By the numbers, you earned 94% of the first place points (132 of 140) winning 6 of 10 categories.

So I based my numbers on last night's standings, which were updated this morning.

WG actually finished with 129.5 of 140 (92.5%) which is still tops all-time. The next closest was in 2006 when the winner, 1625 K St All-Stars, finished with 127.5 (91%) and won 5 categories.

Congratulations, again.

Thanks everyone. Was a pleasure to be a part of such an active and competitive league. Got lucky with a lot of my draft picks like Puig and Segura and was fortunate to be able to build around Miggy. The trade with NC obviously played a big part as well and funny enough I might not have made it if I had (what I considered) 2 decent SP keeper options already on my team.

Looking forward to trying to defend the title next year!

Vote before the season starts with this new change?

Commissioners have the option of adding "NA" roster spots, and these will function similarly to the DL. So you'll be able to stash minor leaguers and/or suspended players (or anyone on the bereavement list) without burning a bench spot.

In a nutshell, what I'm saying is this: We're offering you a stellar fantasy baseball experience in 2014, and it begins next week.

Have it be 5 spots for our Prospects? Have it be 1 or 2 so you can pick who might be close?

I would think it would be great to use as our 5 prospect slots. Especially since we allow callups etc it would take adding a player from the wrong team out of the equation.

What about the rule that went into effect last year that states we can acquire more than 5 prospects through trade as long as we only declare 3 keepers at the start of the next season?

Don't get me wrong- I think it's a good idea to have these reserved spots, but we need clear rules about how they are used. For example, suppose a team drops a prospect from an NA spot to make room for a player on paternity leave (or whatever); they still retain his rights.

That's where I think we would have to vote if we used them that only our prospects can be on the NA.

Sorry the original post was not clearly written.

Are you saying that Yahoo offers the option of NA spots?

So you want 5 for our minor leaguers?

Does Yahoo allow you to move a player back and forth between NA and playing over and over?

What happens when a player is not in database? Does that mean you have 4 NA slots and the 5th sits empty and we just make note of the 5th player like before on rotoguru?

Do they allow an empty slot?

There are a number of issues I would need to understand before voting.

On the whole it doesn't change minor league rules though, is that correct?

when a minor league player is called up, does he still qualify to sit in an NA slot?

this remains to be seen, and a concern. my gut feeling is that it will be similar to the DL spot, which means that yes he qualifies, but you can't make roster moves, which is obviously a large obstacle.

that being said, numerous people are commenting to Yahoo about this, so let's hope they hear this, and make a tweak that an NA player does not have an adverse effect on roster moves.

Fellas

The NA slot was there last year. They only applied it to guys who were in their database at the start of the season who were sent down to the minors, suspended or went on bereavement leave. When a guy returned or was called back up, he would lose his NA status.

It doesn't look like it will give this league a place to stash protected prospects who are in the majors but haven't passed your thresholds.

Sorry, late to the party. Going to Vegas for the Superbowl, back on Wednesday. Will get things rolling then.

If this new feature doesnt do it for us, I thought about this a bit last year.

If you put a player in the roster and mark him as a keeper, he will retain that flag even after you drop him. I could earmark all prospects during pre-season using that game mechanic. So, at least you will think twice before picking him up.

If I understand the MLB schedule for this year, the season starts on 22 MAR in Sydney Austrailia this year. LAD vs ARZ 2 games, they count.

The more traditional opening day is 30 MAR SD vs LAD. Opener for most teams is 31 MAR.

Ideally we will have the draft done by 22 MAR.

also - if for some reason we don't finish before the two-game series in Australia on March 22 and 23, Yahoo allows us to retroactively count those games.

considering Punk's vacation smack dab in the middle of what i would think is prime drafting time, i wouldn't be opposed to allowing retroactive scoring of those games, considering that the rest of the teams don't begin playing until March 30.

Tree,

Thanks for setting up the Yahoo League. I sent you the built in reminder when it first became available (last week?). Maybe it was broke.

Anyway, I thought I was asked to commish this year, I've already begun work on colecting rosters and reviewing prospect eligibility. Did I misunderstand my responsibility?

Whoever the one belly button is gonna be, we do need a role call, the invites to the yahoo league performs that function well. I figured we should know how many managers we need to replace by this Sunday, so we could get started with the arduous task of replacing them or making an alternative plan.

Thoughts?
