Much to the shame of all good Muslims. And to think of all the beard removal and stripper tipping they endured, only to have their plane cancelled? Is there no justice in this world?

Not long after the attacks, Edmonds said one translator said: "It is about time that they get a taste of what they have been giving to the rest of the Middle East."

Hmmm, I was unaware that we (the U.S.) have been engaged in terrorist bombings, etc. in the Middle East.

Another plot by the Bush administration to lead us astray? ;-)

What Bill of Rights? What "due process"? To call it a shame, is to be guilty of grossly understating the problem.

<---Still not convinced my last line in that letter I wrote 3 years ago, wasn't dead on.

The way we've been treating foreign visitors is appalling.

Yeah, MITH, I read that story, too, and also read the comments folks made after. About 10% thought this was the woman's fault and these practices are what is needed to prevent terrorist threats. Unreal. I cannot wait until a Dem pres rolls back this crap. We can be safe without being brutal.

I'm not saying that this didn't happen, but is there any way that we can know that any of it is true? When I was reading the article posted in #8, I couldn't help but think that anyone could just write something like that. Small things like "white wine and shopping" and "little kings with megalomania" made this look more like propaganda than journalism to me.

I understand we've got some problems to deal with (what's new? world covered with 6 billion people - there will always be miscarriages of justice and stupidity), but what I find a little disturbing is that there are so many Americans who are eager to believe that we are something akin to Nazi Germany. Almost like they want it to be true because of the political hammer it puts in their hands.

I went to the home page of the website that published the article in #8. Sott.net stands for Sings of the Times. If you click the link that says quick guide, you'll quickly see what their agenda is. I'll post a couple sections here:

The aim of this page is to briefly describe some of the major players that are moving on the world scene today and contributing to the entropic decline of the human race as we know it.

9/11: The terrorist act that is being used as an excuse by the US government for their current atrocities and stripping of freedoms. We think there is considerable evidence pointing to the complicity of certain factions within Israel and the US in the planning and implementation of these attacks. This is where the line has been drawn. Do you see it or do you keep your head in the sand?

The War on Terrorism: Terrorism is the buzz word of the 21st Century. The real terrorists are in the White House, in the Sharon government, in the intelligence agencies in the US and Israel, in the KGB, in the Kremlin, etc. However, these state terrorists have managed to foment so much hatred around the world that terrorist cells may very well come out of the woodwork reacting to the oppression of weaker peoples by the imperial bullies. But isn't it curious that the FBI was called away from their investigations of such cells apparently operating within the US?

Puppet Masters: The real controllers of our little planet are hidden in the shadows. The control hierarchy is shaped in the form of a pyramid. The higher the level, the more feeding on those below. Anyone with a publicly known name is not at the top level, but is likely high enough to engender pain and misery on planet earth. We refer to them as the puppet masters, more to poke fun at the puppets than anything else. Puppets tend to be psychopaths, with the belief that they are somehow special or superior rather than just pawns with a low price tag.

George W. Bush: Current President of the United States, although not really, since he stole the election with help from brother Jeb and his daddy's friends. Semantic aphasia, obvious joy in death and destruction, misguided belief in his great exploits, and his direct line to "God" point to the fact that he is a psychopath. Comes from a long line of psychopaths and Nazi supporters.

there's a lot more. you can go read it if you want to. btw, one of their "News" sections is titled Axis of Evil, axis of evil referring to the U.S., Israel, etc.

So forgive me if I don't take anything on this website seriously.

Well, I don't think we are moving towards Nazi Germany, but I do agree with what Ron Paul said with Timmeh yesterday that we are moving towards a literal form of fascism, where civil liberties are being replaced by corporate controlled power, a powerful industrialized military machine, stronger executive branch, and fear-based nationalistic policies.

holt re post 12

I have good reason to believe it. My good friend Fiorella had the same thing happen to her last year. Fi had overstayed her visa when she was living here. She had moved to Barcelona to go to school. She came back to visit a friend and when she got off the plane, she was taken into custody. The worst part was rather than send her back to Spain, they deported her to Peru! She then had to fly back to Spain to continue school.

What the Icelandic woman in the story from post 8 was most dismayed about was the fact that she was treated so poorly, kept awake for hours on end, shackled, not given any food or water. What the fuçk is up with that? Are we incapable of treating visitors, even those who may have abused their visas in the past, with dignity? I'm outraged by these stories and every American should be as well.

I meant to respond to post 13 earlier. I agree the site is far from an unbiased source. I did google for other sources before settling for that one and there were plenty of matches for her name but I wasn't able to find any other reports in English.

As to your question about whether the incident actually occurred, here's an email published at Daily Dish from an Iclandic reader who vouches for the impact of that story there.

I believe problems like these do exist and Liberals are to blame. These law were constructed to keep out radical Muslims and since Liberals are so steadfast against stereotyping, law enforcement are forced to go by the letter of the law with everyone or be branded racist.

There is no airport security check ban or limitation on profiling that I'm aware of.

FBI PAID INFORMANT $240,000 TO SPY ON DIX 'PLOTTERS'

These so-called terrorist plots that are broken up by the FBI or homeland security have the following similarities:

A well paid informant or informant gets off the hook for something.

The informant is the ring-leader.

It's the informant's plan/idea.

The other members of the group are not real smart.

The other members of the group go along, just for something to do, but are probably going to bail when it gets down to it.

The initial arrests get giant headlines, but the follow-up gets little, like this story of the informant getting a quarter of a million dollars and getting out of being deported and charged with other crimes. You don't think he egged them on do you to earn his fees? This was the one where the pizza delivery guy was going to blow up Fort Dix or something.

I wonder if the judge even allows that into evidence heard by the jury?

Being an informant for the FBI in the Fort Dix terror investigation has paid well, a witness explained to jurors yesterday.

John Stermel, an investigator assigned to an FBI counterterrorism task force, spent yesterday morning on the stand detailing the role of informant Mahmoud Omar, who wore a wire for 16 months in the investigation of five men accused of planning to shoot soldiers at the Army base.

Defense lawyers say it was Omar who tried to plot an attack - not their clients.

I'm starting to really appreciate the Zucker Brothers. Anticipating today's airport security paradigm all the way back in 1982.
