I am not sure this is where I need to post this, but I had an issue I wanted to ask about.
I discovered that I have been getting an extra 225 dollars every 2 weeks in my account that I can not account for. Finally I decided to looking to it and found out that my mom has been setting up a Christmas fund and she has been putting 225 into this account. Apparently when she set this up the bank made an error and put the money in account XXX62 and not XXX63. When i went to the bank they said the info was entered incorrectly and it will be fixed asap. My question is, am I responsible for repaying my mom the money, or is the bank responsible since this was their mistake? |

This is your mom you're talking about. It's also a Christmas fund. Just give her the money.

You are responsible; only in Monopoly do you get to keep it. If the bank screwed up they are liable to your Mom; however, they can get the money from you.

this is one of those things that kind of amazes me.
how long did you wait to look into it? i'm not the best record keeper, but i'd know if an extra 200+ bucks were showing up in my account bi-weekly, and i'd start asking questions immediately.

Something similar happened to me years ago. You gotta repay it. They'll probably set you up on a repayment plan so it isn't so painful.

I actually already repaid her the money. I was just wondering if it was my responsibility to do so.

before you make me out to be a terrible person for not keeping records you have to understand the situation. This account is only used for my online poker account. I went to take money out of my online account and realized it was there. There were only 2 deposits to the account before i stopped it.

not making you out to be a terrible person at all. i was just floored that someone didn't notice this mysterious money coming into their account. and now that you're saying it's only a month worth of deposits, then that's not really bad book keeping at all...
