Subject: Congress Pork Farm Bill

Even the Times sees this as a joke
We are in trouble, but Republicans and Democrats are now double teaming the tax payers with pork. I have yet to hear even one person justify this ludicrous bill.
How did the Great Uniter stand on this travesty? He voted to override the veto of course. The true moderate, John McCain, was one of the few Congressmen with the guts to fight the bill. |

One of the worst bills ever. If ever a bill needed to be vetoed, this was it.
Evidently "new politics" don't prevent Presidential hopefulls from serving their Corporate Masters, just like most everyone else.

The Farm Bill has always been a great pandering uniter. I'm with you MBJ on this one.

That would be Time magazine, not "the Times" as in New York Times; they try to see the "positive" in the bill, for what it's worth. NY Times

Where do you get that from? The article looks pretty neutral to me.

I misread the next to last paragraph. At first glance it came across as more pro non-farm, particularly the food stamp funding.

I was talking with my Liberal buddy about this bill, thinking there could be finally something we could agree upon. I couldn't believe when his poor NPR brainwashed thoughts on the bill was McCain didn't like the increase to the GI college fund for those who had only served 4 years, as it may discourage longer enlistment. A 289 billion dollar pork bill and all NPR can come up with to report was this crap. NPR is way past Liberalism and is now firmly entrenched into lunacy.

Maybe you're the problem here. Complaining about the GI College Fund for people who literally protect your right to post crap with their lives is probably a bit small minded of you.
Plenty not to like about the bill. Too bad you aren't flexible enough to find anything other than veteran benefits.

When farm commodities are at sky high prices like they are now, how is a massive farm subsidy bill any different than the outrageous 6 billion dollars we give to the oil companies?
Oh. It must be because oil companies are evil and farmers are key voting blocks.

pd - did you read jag's post or do you just have a propensity to insult first and then figure it out.
his post was saying that all his liberal friend could find that was a negative on mccain by not voting for it was that he must be against the gi bill provision and not the other pork in it.

His post was about trying to find common ground with his "liberal" "friend" by bitching about increasing veteran educational benefits and being rebuffed. His response? His "friend" must be brainwashed.
Finding common ground involves more than insulting your "friend" over a single point.

LMAO-- maybe he will speak for himself but the common ground (IMO) he thought he had with his friend was that of "can you believe this pork-laden bill" and all his friend had to say about it was to find any negative he could get on mccain for voting against it and only express that.
i guess it goes to show how the slant of one's politics taints their interpretation of the written word.

You are right, J-Bar. Here is this terrible bill with tons of pork and the only part of the bill my buddy can talk about is a small increase to the GI bill.
He gets all his political information from MPR and it shows.
As far as PD goes, if you were on the wrong side of just about every arguement, you would also be bitter.

We're actually in agreement on the Farm Bill, Jag. Does this make the first time *you* were wrong, in your memory?

I did say "just about". Hell, even a blind Liberal can find an acorn of truth occassionally.

NPR (National Public Radio), I would think you would be smart enough to figure out my typos. I have to go to bed soon, so lets hope Boxman or Boldwin come online, incase you have any more common sense questions.

Obama introduces The Strengthening Transparency and Accountability in Federal Spending Act of 2008, which is cosponsored by, among other people, John McCain.
