Subject: Public Apology As Promised

I was wrong. I was horrendously, inexecusably wrong. If you've seen my football picks this year, this should be no great surprise to you - I seem to have lost my predictive ability. Sorry for wasting everyone'e time with my posts the last few months.
I'm pretty sure I respect everyone here. This is an educated, reasonable crowd, which is why I came back here after a couple years off. I don't have the time to get here as much as I would like, but I enjoy the interaction when I do. I hope I never made anyone think otherwise and I hope you think the same of me, even if we've had our differences.
It's 3:25 and after 22 beers in my 120 pound frame, I'm pretty trashed. Should I wake up sometime tomorrow, I might expand on this post.
Either way:
Congratulations to you Obama supporters on your hard-earned victory. I know what it is like to be right, vaguely, somewhere deep in my memory. And I know what it's like to think things are going to get better.
I also very sincerely hope that I am wrong on what Obama's administration will bring. |

Your a stand-up guy, AZD, even if you are listing to starboard right now!
Hey, at least over-the-top predictions got your site some hits!
Good luck with it in the future, and keep that open mind. I'm sure there will be lots to criticize over the next four years, but try to keep it constructive.

AZD - thank you for this post. to me, it's one of the best from "the other side" on this forum in quite some time.
it is nice to see a post that actually reads as sincere, and is also congratulatory.
good luck with your blog, and i do hope you're wrong about Obama as well. i also hope he follows his word, and will lead the way in all of us working together. if that comes to be, i hope you'll be there, helping us all make this country a better place.

AZD....as has been said dude, you're standup. By definition, that means your posts are not a waste of time. (Sometimes comical yes, waste of time...no)
As for predictive abilities, if any of us actually had that? We'd buy 1 lotto ticket and retire.

Nice one Azd. Respec. 22 beers and you type so eloquently...you are more like Obama than you think? ;-) You were bold in your predictions, cocky, too, but in equal magnitude, you are noble in your public overtures of inaccuracy. Kudos.

I'd like to add some excuses for Scott. Scott was misled by the PUMA sites he was visiting and the tone of the chatter there, is too young to have fully understood the importance of charisma that we elders learned in the Kenedy/Nixon race, and being human was not immune to wishful thinking.

Don't make excuses for him. Not only didn't he ask for them, but they are unneeded.

Baldwin - he doesn't need excuses, because unlike other people here, he was adult enough to accept he was wrong, and step up and admit he was wrong.
he also doesn't need to be insulted by you, because that post you just made was insulting as anything.
within just a few posts, it's quite obviously he clearly understands more than you EVER will.

The apology is nice, but without the necessary introspection that goes with it, it's just some words on a message board. The GOP needs to find its voice again. And it needs to be something other than Democrats are socialist idiot terrorist-loving cowards. Some on the Right will continue to be bitter for years to come, but I hope you choose a different path.

I was only offering an excuse for his mistaken prediction.

A FOS [friend of Scott] points out that America already survived a president who loathed the military.

If we ever get that person again as POTUS then the FOS will be ready.
Do you think Colin Powell loathes the military?
What, exactly, makes Obama subject to the term "loathe?"

I must translate for PD.
"If we could survive Clinton we can survive anything."
To put in perspective, Hillary herself was a disciple of Saul Alinsky in college.

Why does the right, INSIST on claiming Pres Clinton dismantled the military? The drawdown in military personnel/equipment was initiated under Bush I/Cheney following the collapse of the Warsaw Pact. It was popularly termed "The Peace Dividend" at the time.
Or is that you Baldwin, just cannot help but blame your every perceived 'wrong', on someone with Clinton, somewhere in their name?

for Baldwin, it's because Obama is black, a democrat, and in Baldwin's sick head, a non-American and a Muslim.

I'm afraid you aren't translating, or being clear. What makes you believe Obama "loathes" the military. Don't talk about Clinton, Ayers, Alinsky, or anyone. No one really cares about what they are thinking--the electorate clearly rejected the "guilt by association" constructs which has taken up so much of your time the last few months. It is time to stop letting other people's beliefs substitute for Obama's.
What has Obama said, written, or legislated which makes you believe he loathes the military?

Neither I nor the writer I linked to did say that, PD.
In fact until this hour I didn't even seriously ask myself if that might be true. I guess being good friends with an unrepentent bomber of the pentagon might be considered evidence in some quarters...the logical ones. I know other disciples of Saul Alinsky who hate the military. But I never actually made the connection you are suggesting I did, until you reiterated the charge three times.
I'll call it a reasonable inference since you insist on bringing up the subject.
