Lots of stuff about this guy, but the latest (his "bust" of NPR) turned almost surreal as Glen Beck's outfit nails him on context.

The Michael Moore of the Right is, no doubt, going to be claiming martyr status over all this.

Maybe it's not the cameras but rather your own lying eyes.

Context is everything.

it's actually not the cameras. the cameras only shoot what the person behind the cameras aims them at.

rather, it's the editing. and the editing in question is absolutely deceptive. it's only made worse by those who see no problem in spreading lies, as long as "gotcha" is the name of the day.

You mean like '60 Minutes' built their outsized reputation on for decades?

So you DO see something wrong with this type behavior?

Well yes context is everything...even when what you say is so egregious that no conceivable context in the world can save it.

When O'Keefe walks in and says he'll donate to PP as long as it's used to reduce the black population, and the PP rep says, 'yeah, we have no problem designating the donation to that target population', I really don't care how many times you call O'keefe a liar or appeal to context or explain they didn't really mean it.

Part of the reason is that I know plenty of context too. Like their founder Margaret Sanger "We do not want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population." That Margaret Sanger.

Let's just remember which of us conveniently ignores that.

um, that would be YOU. never mind the fact that Sanger has nothing to do with THIS conversation, you love to use that remark of hers out of context.

the fact remains about O'Keefe is that he REPEATEDLY edits his footage to make something appear completely differently than he has represented.

he has been convicted of crimes related to what he does, and he has plead down felonies.

O'Keefe gives all journalists a bad name by his tactics, but he is absolutely living proof of PT Barnum's most well known (but usually mis-attributed) remarks.

See, the PD's and Tree's of the world actually believe you can say 'we want to exterminate the blacks' and somehow wiggle out of it by attacking the messenger.

See, the Boldwin's of the world think you can attribute every last bit of someone's words (no matter how out of context) to everyone they've ever loosely associated with and attempt to smear them by making a connection that's not there.

Fortunately, most people aren't dumb enough to fall for the lies.

If Baldwin was a target of O'Keefe, post 39 would have been reproduced as "we want to exterminate the blacks" on every right-learning web site, to nodding dittoheads saying "Yeah, we always knew Baldwin was secretly racist. Now we got him!"

When even Glen Beck's outfit points out that you can't say a person is racist when they are quoting someone else saying the Tea Party is racist, you know you've lost the argument.

Baldwin seems to be a bit of a zombie in this one, and doesn't know he's dead.

Yeah, you must think we're dead if you think liberals can get away with the stuff O'keefe has on video.

I think those who like this stuff, for the most part, are brain dead. Lapping up lies because they match what they want the world to be.

The loss of critical thinking skills (which make the world more gray than black and white) is the defining characteristic of wingers, left or right.

You'll never see everything O'Keefe films, because that would provide more truth, and therefore, turn people away from the partisan attack which is the very reason he does things. He's not after the truth. And neither are his apologists.

This kind of CYA used to work when liberals had a media monopoly.

Was that before or after the giant space lizard floated out of the cloud with its super laser eyes and popped your favorite balloon, which caused the roller coaster to veer out of control and crash into Ann Coulter thereby proving that liberals have a monopoly on giant space lizards?

You can't both slam "liberals" for the technique of selective lying and hold up O'Keefe as a virtuous model for doing the same.

If libs are/were wrong to do it, then so is O'Keefe.

It would seem that the evidence contradicts your assertion that he can't do that.

Is it logical? No.
Is it sane? No.
Is it anyone that gave a damn about right and wrong would ever do? No.
Is it incredible partisan sleaze? Obviously.

But I'll make a large bet that he can and will continue to do it.

O'Keefe proclaims "G.K. Chesterton, underage prostitutes, Attorney General Gerry Brown and hyperbole and obfuscation" as his heroes.

I heard O'Keefe interviewed on NPR this weekend. He came across as someone who wasn't technically lying, but nothing he said was actually true.

IMO anything he posts as one of his gorilla theater pieces should require a disclaimer. The same could be said for many others, including major networks, but I can't say I want to waste my time watching any of his videos.
