New thread, since the old one has been, frankly, a real piece of work.

I'm afraid I'll have to insist on this being a "no Boldwin" thread and will delete any and all posts by him in this thread. If he posts, please don't respond because they will just look dumb hanging there without reference when I delete the original.

Everyone, please feel free to participate in both threads, as you see fit.

Meanwhile: Why Should I Care That No One’s Reading Dzhokhar Tsarnaev His Miranda Rights?

Some more background on the Miranda question, specifically the public safety issue.

I'm not convinced of anything other than that the FBI appears to be following its own rules, so far. Whether that is constitutional remains to be seen.

I think most of us are pretty confident that it isn't related to the marathon bombing but the Elvis-impersonating ricin-mailing suspect has been released.

There's a rumor that his neighbor might have set him up. Whether that person is considered a suspect, I don't know.

WAPO
The 19-year-old suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings has told interrogators that the American wars in Iraq and Afghanistan motivated him and his brother to carry out the attack, according to U.S. officials familiar with the interviews.

What passes for analysis on the Right these days: "Obama must be held accountable for the Boston bombings."

from the link in 17. ...the bombings were the most devastating terrorist attack on U.S. soil since Sept. 11, 2001.

i will be blunt. that sentiment, while factually true, disgusts me.

1. 1000 times the number of people who died in Boston, died on 9/11.

2. if the same people who wrote the article in 17 had their way and the shooting at Fort Hood was called a terrorist attack, the number dead there would dwarf the number at the Boston Marathon.

3. since 9/11, there have been TWENTY NINE (29) mass shootings in this country that killed more than the number that died in Boston, and i am fairly certain the writer of the linked article wouldn't want tighter gun restrictions.

this is not to belittle what happened in Boston. but to compare the impact, and lay blame on Obama to that of 9/11 belittles nearly anyone with ties to either tragedy.

if anything, Obama should be lauded for the LACK of attacks in this country since he took office.

He definitely has been.

To the now very clear chagrin of some on the hard right.

NOVA episode on the bombing tonight.
For the past few weeks, I've been in Boston, hanging out at WGBH as Miles O'Brien and the PBS science program NOVA worked to put together this documentary on the science and technology inside the Boston bombing manhunt and investigation. It airs tonight, and it's pretty phnomenal.

Two men featured on the cover of the New York Post following the Boston bombing under the headline, "Bag Men," are suing the newspaper, according to court papers.
