Thanks to everyone for an absolutely thrilling Season VIII. We have some new members in our group and so far I have to say that everyone has taken to the spirit of our little league quite well. Rude's trash talking and dancing, Zyre & Bobo dropping plenty of non-WWE knowledge, etc.
So our newcomers may or may not know, but has probably been discussed somewhere, we usually take a 2-week hiatus between seasons. During that time we declare keepers, set the draft order and have our 4-round draft. The draft order is done by averaging the strength of your keepers and your position in the standings to try to guard against tanking in the standings.
Accordingly, we do "blind" keepers that are sent to the league champion, who presumably will have the last pick anyway. The highest scorer on your roster, as determined by the column marked "YTD Total Points", is automatically thrown back into the draft so that each year we have some studs to choose from in the first round of the draft. This column can be different from the "YTD Team Points" column due to trades. For example, for Great One John Cena is the top scorer on his team even though he traded for him during the year. You must then choose your four preferred keepers after your top scorer is tossed back to the draft pool.
So send your preferred 4 keepers to me here: gmrobinson1 (at) yahoo (dot) com (did I do that right to avoid getting 1000 spam messages? lol)
I'll try to look up the WWE PPV schedule and post it later (or if someone else has it, that would be outstanding).
Anyone have a problem with a Thursday, 12:00pm ET keeper deadline?? Then start the draft Friday? Or is Monday more appropriate?
Once keepers are declared, hopefully Mike D can post a list of available wrestlers for the draft with points scored in Season VIII.
Note: Pretty much anybody is available to draft, no matter what circuit they are on. So guys like Kurt Angle, Abyss, ROH guys, DSW, OVW - it don't matter. We only have a 2-man bench though so it's not like you can afford a ton of speculative picks.
Another note: The person you draft sticks with them no matter what persona/name/gimmick they have. If you draft Abyss and he comes to the WWE as "IRS Jr." in a shirt, tie and briefcase, and it's the same dude, your draft pick of Abyss sticks. If you own Foley and he wrestles as Dude Love, it sticks. Etc.
Other rules/quirks/etc to be pointed out for the newcomers are welcomed. Here's to another great RotoGuru Wrestling Federation season! |

I'll work out the PPV schedule and Trade deadline etc and post in the first post of the Waivers/Transactios thread like last season.
And hopefully the ECW situation stays as simple as it has been since December (taping during Smackdown) so we don't have that extra monitoring.

I'd say we have to draft at a time where we can do all 4 rounds without having any picks happen while there is any TV shows going on or being taped. So either Thursday-Monday before Raw or after Tuesday's Smackdown results appear.

Thursday-Monday seems to be reasonable. This thing goes pretty quick. Then we get a full week to unwind.
so far... Season IX PPV SCHEDULE Backlash on Sunday, 4/29 Judgment Day on Sunday, Sunday, 5/20 One Night Stand on Sunday, 6/10 Vengeance on Sunday, 6/24 The Great American Bash on Sunday, 7/22 SummerSlam on Sunday, 8/26 Unforgiven on Sunday, 9/16 No Mercy on Sunday 10/7
Opening roster deadline is 04/23/07 at 9 PM. Trade Deadline is roster freeze for week of 9/24/07. Last scored show is Smackdown on 10/12/07.

This may help as well... the following is a list of each teams top scorer. Each team may pick any 4 wrestlers from their team --- that aren't on this list. Your 3 leftovers will be thrown into the draft pool with the below (as well as anyone else on the planet you feel like drafting).
Top Scorers by Team Undertaker Nitro Lashley Flair Booker Batista Shawn Kennedy Kane Cena
Also, via a private email vote, we have approved a ruling that Tree is not allowed to name his Season IX team the "No Remorse Corps" as he undoubtedly plans to.

Ok, so:
Keeper deadline is Thursday April 12th at 12:00pm ET
The draft will start at 12:00pm ET on Friday April 13th
Twenty four hours should be enough for Mike D to assemble an available draftee list, and enough time for league members to review. With only four rounds we should be able to snap it off before RAW on Monday. I agree with Farn that we should all be working from the same information and not have someone get lucky in round 3 when someone debuts out of nowhere.
I have only received 3 sets of keepers.

That also means we need to figure out Slosh's team before then, no? Do we start another search?Anyone know of any good candidates?
That team is kind of screwed too, only Regal, Shelton and maybe Torrie are worth keeping. If we find a new owner, I would propose we allow them to make two "waiver claims" from anyone who was a free agent at the end of the year. At least then they could get a guy like Balls Mahoney or Scotty2Hotty and not have to waste their waiver priority by cutting someone who isn't even employed when the new season starts. Its kind of our own fault that we didn't address this the last few weeks of the season so they could actually do some small moves like that to prepare for this season. Or we could just give them a couple supplemental picks say 5.01, 5.02... something like that.

that's fine Tree. if we all agree to move quickly we can do a couple of rounds before Friday and still have all day Sunday.
Remember, there are only 4 rounds so no big deal. And the first round always goes super fast.

Perhaps start the draft at 6:00pm ET on Thursday??
Re: Fixing slosh's team --- what about a one time "mercy ruling" allowing that team to just keep Nitro as a keeper and forsaking the 'lose top scorer' rule?
Otherwise maybe a supplemental pick between the 2nd and 3rd rounds (instead of 5.01)?

My 2 cents would be for Nitro to still go into the draft and keep the 1st round as exciting as possible. (and it's not because I have two low 1st round picks hehe)
Supplemental picks/free waiver priority sounds good.

My proposal would be 3 keepers -> Shelton Regal Torrie
Then the supplemental pick at 2.11 sounds pretty fair. And considering that ALL 4 of my picks are after this, I think thats a pretty bold statement! lol...
Heres the thing though, we need a 4th "keeper" to determine the draft order. Thats only fair as well. We could... A. use the total points of the highest person left on his roster (even though its not actually a keeper) to come up with a 4-scorer total or B. the highest individual point total in the FA Pool - or essentially in the grey section of the Final Standings page. This would be kind of like predicting the number of points that the 2.11 pick will have so we can factor 2.11 into the draft order.

Punk heel turn... a little surprised, but I think it sets up more obvious fueds, I mean the no drinking/drugs vs. Sandman, RVD, Sabu kind of writes itself.
They could re-use alot of the same ideas from ROH when he fueded with Raven/Dreamer.
Tree will agree, Punk is a GREAT heel too. He cuts some awesome promos, some of the best you'll ever see. Thats one of his biggest strengths and they haven't really handed him a mic and let him go. Hopefully next week they will.
And at some point in this fued, when The Originals hold him down and Sandman pours a beer down his throat (against everything he believes in)... well then let the fireworks begin!

if this heel turn sticks (and i'm not convinced that it will), i have no doubt this will happen. ROH did this a few years back, when Raven and Tommy Dreamer held Punk down and poured a beer down his throat...

OK, just my random thoughts as I look at this.
I like this proposal from above:
"Use the total points of the highest person left on his roster (even though its not actually a keeper) to come up with a 4-scorer total"
Which would be Mike Knox at 117 points.
Cause that would be who I would keep if I had to keep 4.

In one league I play in, if you don't put your keepers in by the deadline, the commissioner chooses them for you. Hurry your ass up Tree or you could end up with someone you didn't intend to keep.

#47 - laugh if you want, but the reason the keepers all get sent 'blind' to the League Champion - ME in this case - is so you don't know if other people are "shorting" their keeper list with the possibility of moving up a spot in the draft.
Actually this mixed-average draft order really has worked out very well over the years. Pretty darned fair if you ask me.

*Species's promo on the Videotron goes black - Crowd appears bored*
*Rude's music hits*
*Rude struts to the ring and forcefully takes the mic away from the ring announcer*
Let me make this short and sweet for all you simpletons out there...
Season 9 is mine! I took over a pitiful team in Season 7 and raised them out of the CRAP and FILTH they were lying in--just like the way you all live your lives. I am now ready to take this thing like the supreme being that I am. I am poised to put my name in the history books. The name Greg Rude will be synonymous with 'Glorious Champion.' The greatest of all time! Now, I know none of you low lifes will ever know what that means, but you are about to see first hand what a winner looks like. Up close and personal! Right here for you to see with your very own eyes ...or by the looks of this crowd, with your very own lazy and cross-eyes. Remember the name GREG RUDE cause you'll whisper it with envy forever like all the other wannabees and also-rans...Rude... Who was the only person to ever come into this league and start making roster moves before even being accepted as an official member of the RWF? That's right ... RUDE, GREG RUDE!
One last thing for all you fat, (listens to boos) ugly, (more boos) mule smelling, (louder boos) tubs of lard (thunderous boos)... check this out
*drops mic and does Rude dance*
*Music plays again and Rude exit's the ring with a smirk on his face*

* Runs in from behind the curtain and DECKS Rude with his title belt, grabbing the mic as the crowd ROARS with approval*
Who the hell are YOU to come on to MY STAGE and claim that YOU are more than the spit that shines my boots?!?!? You were NOTHING until slosh pulled you out of that wannabe Chippendale dance club you were working at and brought you into this joint!
*Waves to the curtain as Maria and Stacy come out in their bra and panties, to more roars from the crowd*
Show them some REAL dancing, ladies!
*Maria and Stacy do their own grinding Rude dance over a bloodied Rude, before walking away in the arms of THE CHAMP!*

BTW, Mark Henry would not have made it past me. I actually originally had him as a keeper and then changed my mind last minute. I probably should have left it the original way and it would have moved me up a position in the draft.

Yes Zyre. The new waiver priority list is in the first post of this seasons waiver/transactions thread. I'd personally wait a bit for everyone to post their rosters too, but I don't think it really matters all that much, it would just look a little cleaner.
So on a side note - if you have finished your draft - please post your completed roster in the Waivers/Transactions thread (and a new team name if ya got one of course!)
And as was confirmed earlier by unanimous vote, Tree is not allowed to use "No Remorse Corps" no matter what he says. Thanks to Khali/Batista, his team has officially been christened the KOW........ aka "Kings of Workrate"

Sent it a half hour ago to the yahoo address. All I have now is the one sheet with the columns for the shows. It saves me a lot of time.........especially with overlapping appearances on each show, guys switching, etc..
You can slice it up into shows if you want. Or just use the one sheet, and post it as is but change the columns where the shows are to 1 show name. Whatever. And you can cut out the non-scorers before posting too if you like (or not). The shows toward the end of last season will give you different looks (thanks GO and Species).

Inquiring (and sick) minds want to know Tree.....got a link to that photo spread?
I hope I correctly took from your queue, Zyre. FYI - waivers are now open since the draft is done if you wish to put in a claim.
Notes on waivers (and no insult intended if you already knew):
- Claims are "open" - meaning you claim in the thread and others can 'trump' you (we have debated a blind system of some kind but have never been able to figure one out) - Claims take 24 hours. So if you claim someone at 12:00pm ET today it will become official at 12:00pm ET tomorrow. - If someone trumps your claim, their own 24-hour clock starts. - You are allowed one successful waiver claim per week. This is to help our poor, overworked, underpaid, and underappreciated Standings Master from onerous roster swapping. We call it "The Great One Doctrine". - Upon a successful waiver claim, you are to post your claim, your new roster in it's entirety, and the new waiver priority.

Hey boys.....a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. I don't mind.
You know what's bugged me for years now - the "No Holds Barred" match. These days it's merely a "no DQ" match - but long gone are the days when a great angle/buildup could be centered around a particular wrestler's hold. The heel somehow gets the face's hold barred from use...until the feud is blown off with a 'No Holds Barred' match where that wrestler can finally use it....
I'd love to see MVP bring out some fake Doctor, with a chalk board, charts, whatever, claiming that the Crippler Crossface is an illegal choke/whatever. T. Long agrees and declares it illegal, and a long buildup is given to their feud....give MVP a DQ win when Benoit slaps on the Crossface, etc.....all culminating at a PPV "No Holds Barred" where of course MVP taps out to the Crossface now that Benoit can 'finally' use it.
I know some angle from my childhood/teenagedom went down like that. Bob Backlund's chicken-wing crossface?!? Maybe even AWA (was that Vern Gagne's promotion?)?

I'm curious about other teams' thoughts on the tri-brand PPV structure as it pertains to our league.
Does anyone else wonder if the "power" of our league will shift more to those with more "Main Eventers" vs. those with a more balanced set of scorers from 1 through 6? Let's face it, those PPV points add up....and if you have a top tier main eventer like Cena, Lashley, etc - who quite likely are going to have a part in EVERY PPV - that's going to be huge.
Giving some of the rosters a quick review:
Rude has a pretty sweet stable of midcarders who should all score pretty consistently (Flair, Snitsky, Chavo, Striker or Cade) along with Finlay in the upper mid-card and Booker as a main eventer when he's healthy. But as of now Finlay doesn't have a Backlash match and if every PPV is tri-branded, you wonder if he actually loses PPV appearances compared to the old branded PPV structure.
Mike D has the hurt HHH who would undoubtedly be on every PPV, along with Mr. MITB who again will likely be on every PPV.
wiggs might parlay his stashing of Mysterio into a title run this year with likely PPV participants RVD (assuming WWE keeps him, and keeps him happy), Benoit, HBK and Mysterio. That along with tag champ Domino and solid midcarder Helms with Eugene on the bench makes him an early favorite.
Zyre has PPV stalwart The Undertaker but after that has some question marks. Mickie should always be sniffing a title run (and by the looks of those pictures.......but I digress), and Henry is capable of some PPV angles.
Great One has Edge in every angle and CM Punk who likely is to be a part of most PPV's. MVP and Carlito are on that next upper midcard tier, although Carlito's backstage heat could get in the way. Throw in both McMahon's and you've got a stacked Backlash lineup for an early push in the standings.
GoatLocker has actually pushed that team into respectability pretty quick. Lashley will be on every PPV, he has a tag champ in Deuce and some stable midcarders in Dreamer and Sandman who should be around on TV (at least) with this Originals vs. New Breed ongoing storyline. He's lacking in "PPV Power" outside of Lashley but he certainly won't be last this year, IMO.
Farn had an excellent draft, getting Cena at #2 overall, Kane with my 1st rounder and even getting Women's Champ Melina in round 2! Cena will be on every PPV and Kane will be in his share, as will Melina. London just lost the tag belts so you have to hope they don't fade into oblivion....and Yang should be in the Cruiser picture.
Tree is short on headliners after Batista, although he has a decent 1-6 with Doane, Spanky, Khali, and guys like Miz/Foley/Daivari.
Bobo inherited a pretty nice squad and was able to nab Nitro in Round 1. Hopefully he gets the upper mid card push he deserves. Jeff Hardy will get his share of PPV's as the Hardys are over like crazy. Add the New Breed guys Burke (I'm liking him more and more) and Thorn and he has a deep squad, filling in with Super Crazy and Estrada while awaiting Harry Smith or Colt Cabana's debut.
My team? With no 1st round pick I have to rely upon my strong keepers. Orton is a fringe player on the main event scene but should have his share of PPV's. Umaga is the same way - top of the mid card or a fringe player on the main event, so again I'm hoping for 75% PPV participation. Matt Hardy is over huge with the Hardys reunion and I think it is fair to say they have injected some life into a listless tag division. They have proved their mettle in huge matches and I have to assume they will be rewarded. Marcus Cor Von should continue to be a fringe ECW main eventer/high midcarder and be on TV every week, but not on enough PPV's, IMO. From there I have to get lucky with The Boogeyman or Santino Marella to try to eek out some points. Maria is there for hotness and comedy relief, although she has spiritedly worked to improve her ring skills to be in those various diva tag matches or be a squash opponent for Victoria/Melina.
Early on I have to tab wiggs as the favorite, with GO and I looking to get lucky and nab a solid scorer in the 5/6 spots. If a Bobo midcarder gets a big push he will contend, as could Rude if he gets lucky with one of his midcarders. Should be a fun and interesting year!
