Huge news for ROH!

INTERNATIONAL WRESTLING PHENOMENON RING OF HONOR INKS STATESIDE TELEVISION DEALS

WITH iN DEMAND, TVN AND ECHOSTAR

PPV/VOD Distribution Deals Bring ROH into 50 Million Households

New York, May 3, 2007 - Ring Of Honor Wrestling (ROH), in association with G-Funk Sports & Entertainment, has concluded programming and distribution deals for PPV and VOD wrestling cards with iN DEMAND Networks, TVN and EchoStar Communications Corporation's DISH NetworkTM, making the critically-acclaimed ROH brand available for the first time ever to approximately 50 million American households. The agreement calls for a card every 60 days from shows both stateside and abroad, and will premiere July 1. A total of six cards are planned throughout ‘07/'08. ROH owner Cary Silkin made the announcement today with G-Funk's President Ken Gelman. The debut event, entitled "Respect Is Earned," will be taped May 12 in New York City from the Grand Ballroom of the Manhattan Center, and will feature a glistening array of talent from Japan, England, the U.S. and Mexico.

Long revered by a loyal underground fan base, the Philadelphia-based ROH—currently seen on Canadian, British and Japanese TV—appeals to the disenfranchised wrestling fan fed up with storylines which seem to take precedence over the kind of powerful ring competition that ROH specializes in. ROH, in fact, is seen to have the highest level of athleticism in its field today, which recently culminated in a sweep of the 2006 Wrestling Observer awards for "Most Outstanding Wrestler," "Best Brawler," "Best Major Wrestling Show" (ROH took four of its Top 10) and "Best Booker."

"Fans around the world now know that our brand of action is, indeed, the highest-flying, hardest-hitting most daring and acrobatic action presented today," says Mr. Silkin. "We are thrilled that we can finally show a televised audience what our crowds have known for the last six years…that ROH harkens back to an earlier era of wrestling where authenticity still counted for something. There's a magic at our shows that I, as a wrestling fan, had all but given up on."

G-Funk Sports and Entertainment will be handling all marketing and promotion for the wrestling programs, including creation and launch of an affiliate website on May 15, www.rohaffiliates.com, which will contain easy-to-implement marketing materials and all event information. Each show will also be supported by a range of targeted national consumer advertising and promotion.

According to Mr. Gelman, "Ring Of Honor already has the respect and enthusiastic following of legions of fans around the world through their live events, but represents a fresh new entry into the world of televised wrestling. These distinctive programs will prove a welcome change-of-pace for audiences and a popular new option for cable operators and satellite providers as they expand their transactional offerings."

price will be $9.95 for a two hour show.

and no, not live. it would be stupid to do it live, at least right now.

Live PPVs helped kill ECW. you put millions up front, then don't see your return for anywhere from 3 to 9 months. if you don't have a ton of cash coming in, that'll kill your cash flow.

additionally - for people who have never seen ROH, this is a chance. whether they have never heard of it, or never bought a DVD because you can only get them online or at tshows, this is an opportunity to check it out.

Torch Talk with Gabe Sapolsky

Ring of Honor announced Wednesday, May 2 that it would be premiering on PPV on July 1. The PPV, pretaped on May 12 in Manhattan, N.Y., would be the first time ROH is available widely on TV in the U.S. ROH will provide inDemand with a new PPV every two months, and use that PPV to drive new fans to its website and hopefully to purchase DVDs and live event tickets, both of which are ROH’s life blood.

ROH has been around for five years, content to run live events in small venues in front of several hundred fans, then tape and sell those events on DVD to an even larger customer base across the world. PPV, though, brings ROH to the next level. In this exclusive half hour interview with ROH booker Gabe Sapolsky conducted May 2, he details the terms of the PPV deal, explains the motivations behind it, and addresses how this will and won’t change what ROH has stood for and presented as a product the last five years.

Wade Keller: How long has this been an idea and where did you first hear about it, or did you come up with it yourself?

Gabe Sapolsky: It was basically done by Cary Silken and Sid Eyk in our office. Cary was looking for a way to expand our customer base basically. This all happened since Fall of last year. I’m not sure of the specific year. Basically, we got to the point where every fan who is willing to shell out for a 15 or 20 bucks and send it to a website of small company for a DVD, we got all those fans. We showed growth, but it was slow. You pick up a fan here or there, you lose a fan here or there, too. They get burned out or tired or whatever. So we needed a way to get more exposure. What this pay–per–view deal does is give us a way to get more exposure and at a real affordable rate. The business plan of ROH has not chnaged. We’re still going to be a company that lives or dies on DVD or live ticket event sales. The pay–per–view is just basically a way to get more exposure, to get the ROHwrestling.com name out there or the Ring or Honor name out there and reach an audience that otherwise isn’t going to buy our DVD.

Keller: What do you picture at this point being the cross–promotion other than someone happening to flip across ROH pay–per–view on their onDemand channel guide?

Sapolsky: There’s lots of plans for promotion. We have a very big guy with Ken Gelman involved in all of this who’s handling all of this. He has a very good background. He really, really knows what he is doing. I have a lot of trust and faith in him. He has a lot of good ideas. He’s a real go–getter. He’s going to have a lot of ways to promote this pay–per–view.

Keller: There will probably a lot of people seeing ads for ROH after WWE pay–per–views conclude, too. There are a lot of ways being on pay–per–view raises your profile. My first reaction to this is there are going to be a lot of people who are not in the habit of buying DVDs thorugh mail order. They’ll see the pay–per–view option and they’ll order it and then want more of that product than once every two months.

Sapolsky: It really is all of that exposure. Very important to us was the price point. These pay–per–views are going to be priced between $9.95 and $14.95. That’s a very affordable price. And it’s a price where you don’t have to watch on Sunday at 8 o’clock to sit and watch it or you miss it. I always thought TNA had a good idea with the Wednesday pay–per–view and it didn’t work out for whatever reason. But, you did have to watch on a Wednesday night. With onDemand, it will be on all month. You might be sitting there at one in the morning and you have nothing to do, and you want to spend ten bucks, it’s not a big deal, you go ahead and buy it. It’s going to be very convenient for the people and very affordable. That’s the main thing. I think it will attract a lot of impulse buys that way and we’re also hoping there are casual fans. We’re not asking a whole lot. You’re not going to have to shell out a whole lot. It’s not thirty or forty dollars. It costs ten or fifteen dollars for two hours of your time.

Keller: Is there a number of buys that inDemand is looking for or a neighborhood? In your own mind, do you have a number you need to reach to make it sustainable, or is this arrangement just so cheap for inDemand and something you were already doing where there’s almost not a treshhold you need to reach?

Sapolsky: The amazing part of this is there really isn’t pressure for a lot of buys. InDemand has a lot of things going on and this is just another product for them to sell. For us, it’s about exposure. It’s about getting more people to buy the DVDs and come to live events and putting the ROHwrestling.com name out there and the Ring of Honor name. It’s not really a high pressure “we have to do this number of buys” or “we put this much more money into the company and it’s going to be this much more expensive to run the shows.” The fact of the matter is it’s all very affordable and it’s become a really innovative and great way to try to get some exposure.

Keller: The technology changes are changing the landscape for what a pro wrestling company can do to sustain itself. That’s been one of the great things about ROH. Not that you’ve reached a ceiling on growth, but you’re not expanding at a rate where you’re looking at going public in a few months. It’s nice to be able to be a certain level, be profitable, employ wrestlers, have a good time doing what you’re doing, and not grow too fast like ECW did where the next move is “make or break.”

Sapolsky: It’s not where wer’re going to be in a situation where we are going to be too big to be small and too small to be big, which was the famous Paul Heyman line about ECW, which was true. When Cary first came to me with the idea about the pay–per–view, I was dead set against it because I was really worried about that. I figured we’re going to take on the same problems ECW did. But the fact of the matter is, we haven’t had any of those problems and I’m 100 percent excited about it now because it really is the next logical step for the company at this point. We’re not overextending ourselves with it. We’re not drastically changing our business plan. We’re not going to have to change our product at all. We’re still going to be able to put our product out there. It really is the next logical step for our company to take.

Keller: Will the pay–per–view show also be sold on DVD, and if so before or after the pay–per–view airs?

Sapolsky: It will be sold, but after the pay–per–view airs. The pay–per–view will be first–run material.

Keller: From a production standpoint has inDemand asked anything of you, first of all, and second of all, will you be upgrading any aspects of production?

Sapolsky: There will be some small upgrades, but inDemand hasn’t said anything to us. In fact, they’ve seen numerous tapes of our product and DVDs of our product and they’re very happy with it. There will be some production upgrades because we always making production upgrades. It’s just something we always try to do. It might not be anything too noticeable, just little things here and there to clean the product up a little bit.

Keller: What about the ring mic?

Sapolsky: If you started watching the DVD from the beginning of this year, you’ll see we had the ring mic wired right into the audio now, so there’s no issues with the ring mic anymore.

Keller: Excellent. Other than that, from a production standpoint, the rest of it has to do with the building you’re in and the crowd you have. The lighting is consistent.

Sapolsky: That’s one of the reasons we wanted to do things in Manhattan because we’re going to get a tremendous crowd in there and a tremendous crowd reaction. We have to keep in mind the building we’re taping things in, we obviously want a great looking building. You’re not going to suddenly see pyro or lots of fancy things to compete with WWE and TNA. That’s another lesson from ECW. We’re not going to go the exact opposite route that ECW went, because I look back at some of that ECW stuff and it just looks terrible, but we’re going to have a nice standard of production, but we’re not going to try to compete with TNA or WWE. We’re going to have our own look and it’s a look I’m very comfortable with. It’s an old school look, but it’s updated. I think it’s very pleasant on the eye. If you want huge production, this isn’t going to be the product for you. If you want a nice looking product with all the emphasis on wrestling, that’s what we’re still going to be.

Keller: If you’re not at a point where you can come even close to what WWE is, you’re going to look foolish trying. ROH has an alternative look to it where I think people who have discovered it feel they’re part of an exclusive club of people who have discovered something special. I think that more than makes up for the fact that it’s not at the most up to date arena with all the pyro.

Sapolsky: The fans who buy this product, that’s not what they’re buying this product for anyways. It’s not something we’re concerned about. You’re not going to see a changed product. We’re not suddenly going to go on pay–per–view and you’re going to see a Randy Savage or something. You’re going to see the same product you’ve seen over the last five years. That’s the other beautiful part of this whole arrangement is that it does not change the integrity of the product whatsoever. We still have no one we really have to answer to. We just have to send a tape in and they play it. You’re going to see the same product We’re going to feature our guys, the guys you’ve seen in Ring of Honor and the guys who have signed contracts with us and those you have come to expect in Ring of Honor. You’re going to see a pure Ring of Honor product. It’s not going to have to be altered in any way.

Keller: Every time TNA has gone to a new network—from pay–per–view to FSN to Spike late night to Spike prime time—we saw a reset of storylines and certain things were rerun. I don’t know how many times James Storm and Chris Harris have been broken up. Is there going to be any kind of storyline reset, and if not, any kind of introduction into the product you’ll try to incorporate into the show? Or will people buying this pay–per–view who have never seen ROH before basically feel they’re picking up something mid–stream that they have to do some catching up on.

Sapolsky: That’s a really good question. You’re not going to see any kind of a reset for the product. You’re going to see the product evolve. What people buy us for and always sells the product from the very first show is wrestling. You’re going to see the guys get over on their wrestling. There’s going to be a reason for the matches taking place. You’re going to know what the characters’ motivations are. You’re not going to be hit over the head with it because you’re basically buying it for the wrestlng. It will stay in line with what’s been going on with Ring of Honor. The first show is going to be a show where if you’ve never seen Ring of Honor before and you have no idea who anybody is, by the time you’re watching the pay–per–view and the match goes on, you’re going to have at least a little bit of an idea of why this match is happening of why you should care about this match?

Keller: So there will be more pre–production perhaps than average on an ROH DVD?

Sapolsky: No, not at all. It will be pretty much a self–contained show. It’s going to be pretty much a self–contained show. Not self–contained in that it doesn’t lead to anything or doesn’t look at the past, but self–contained in that if you’ve never seen ROH before, you’re going to understand why everything is going on and why all these matches are taking place. People aren’t going to buy this pay–per–view to see lots of backstage promos or videos and that kind of stuff. It’s going to have that kind of thing that you’re able to follow the product, but when you buy a Ring of Honor product, you’re buying it for the wrestling and that’s not gonna change.

Keller: Was there any concern at all or anything you were aware of that put the long–term or short–term future of ROH in jeopardy if something wasn’t done to add to the revenue stream such as this pay–per–view and expand the audience base, or were things solid enough where you weren’t content, but you could have stayed course for a while?

Sapolsky: We could stay course and sputter along and gain a few customers and lose a few customers, but the bottom line is Cary’s a businessman and he’s not in this to just stand pat. He wants to see growth. He doesn’t need to see an overnight overwhelming success; he just wants to see a slow, steady growth. We kind of reached a point where we weren’t growing, but it was just so slow and we were doing it for five years and it’s just like, what does it take to get new fans, and bottom line is it we need that TV exposure. We could have gone along and kept coasting. Some months we make money, maybe some months we don’t. The bottom line is we needed this in order to not expand to the next level, but just expand our fan base a little bit and
get that extra level of exposure.

Keller: You can say you don’t comment on this, because I know you generally don’t, but you’ve never sold more than ten thousand DVDs of any one event.

Sapolsky: Yeah, I can’t really discuss that.

Keller: Now, for people who weren’t paying attention to DVD before, it’s worth letting them know that nobody was becoming a multimillionare on the DVD sales. I think that’s part of the reason Ring of Honor fans are so loyal and passionate about it—that it’s a passion on your part and the wrestler’s part. There aren’t ten guys making seven figures.

Sapolsky: Yeah, I mean, that’s all true. No one’s making millions or getting rich off of Ring of Honor.

Keller: How about the announcers for the product?

Sapolsky: It will be our regular announcers, Dave Prazak and Lenny Leonard. They both do a great job and they both deserve to be on the pay–per–view.

Keller: How does this affect your relationship with TNA? The talent crossover has almost been eliminated already.

Sapolsky: It’s down to Homicide and Austin Aries. Really at this time I want to keep everything focused on Ring of Honor.

Keller: So basically, that will be worked on behind the scenes, otherwise no comment.

Sapolsky: Yeah, pretty much.

Keller: Fair enough. It is nice at this stage that as you move to this stage that there isn’t a lot of crossover and it really isn’t an issue. I doubt there will be talent exchanges. They’ll see you more so as competition now even though you’re offering a very different type of pay–per–view product.

Sapolsky: It doesn’t take a genius to see that we’ve been phasing down on the TNA talent and they’ve been phasing down on us using the TNA talent. It’s been a mutal thing between us. You just have to look. First there was Abyss, then (Alex) Shelly, then A.J. (Styles), Jay Lethal was thrown in there, then Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels. You can see it was definitely something that was thought about for a year and a half or so. They wanted to do their own thing and they’ve been doing theirs. It’s been something we’ve been working on. We’ll see how it plays out.

Keller: Are you saying some of the talent decisions over the last four, five, six months such as Samoa Joe, this might have been in the back of your mind to sort out and separate the two rosters.

Sapolsky: Yeah, it was in the back of my mind even before all this just because we didn’t want to have two identical rosters.

Keller: Are your wrestlers under contract, like legal binding real contracts?

Sapolsky: This whole thing afforded us the opportunity to sign a roster of talent. We have well over ten guys signed at this point and that’s very exciting to me. I have been living the past ten years of my life waiting for that IM or email or phone call to come in saying so and so, whose having a major angle, needs to finished up or he’s gone or any kind of situation like that. I don’t have to live with that hanging over my head and I don’t have to book with that hanging over my head right now because our core roster and all our main players are signed for a period of time that will allow us to build around them.

Keller: Are the contracts just a flat guarantee or a WWE type of downside.

Sapolsky: I don’t really want to get into the terms of the contract. The guys all seem very happy. One huge compliment, and this is probably the biggest compliment possible I’ve ever received, is that we started trying to sign guys a month ago, everybody was very receptive to it, and not only were all the guys receptive to it, but they didn’t try to run to WWE or TNA first chance they got. In ECW, it seemed like anytime someone got a contract offer, the first thing they’d do is run outside and try to go to WCW or WWE to counter the offer. The guys we have and the guys we’ve signed are really committed to being here. They want to build a system here and don’t want to be part of those systems. As you know, Wade, a lot of wrestlers aren’t happy with the systems in other places. This is a chance for guys to have their freedom and build their own system and they’re completely into it. It was such a huge compliment that everyone was just so willing to sign and so committed to this cause. The sense of team that we have in that locker room is unlike anything I’ve ever been a part of. We all really believe in what we’re doing and what our cause is in ROH. I think that’s going to really carry over into the ring and give us a really special product.

Keller: I think you’ve found a way to keep everyone on the roster happy. For one, you’re not on TV pushing yourself so there’s not that resentment, but even more so you’ve found a way to rotate main events and semi–main events to guys and find a way to rotate guys into that spot but not keep anyone there who obviously doesn’t deserve it. Like a Samoa Joe or a Bryan Danielson, of course you ride that wave. But everyone has a chance to feel they’re contributing in a meaningful way.

Sapolsky: That’s I think very important to the teamwork that we have. For instance, this month it might be Brent Albright’s turn to get his half nelson suplex over big and everyone goes under for that and that sets Brent Albright up for a big match. Then it’s B.J. Whitmer’s turn. Then it’s Delirious’s turn. So, that in turn keeps everybody strong up and down the roster. While some guy might have to make a sacrifice one month, then a few months later it will pay off for him. Most importantly, nobody ever does a job for the sake of doing a job. I try to have a lot of finishes in even a subtle way lead to something, some kind of character development. Everybody is very comfortable with where things are going, and that’s kept them behind things.

Keller: Will the pay–per–view deal change the number of shows you run in any way. Will you take the weekend off before a pay–per–view just so guys are fresh? Has any of that stuff entered your mind?

Sapolsky: No. I mean, it’s not even determined if every pay–per–view is going to be taped all in one night as we’re doing in Manhattan. So there’s a lot to be determined with that. For right now, everything is status quo.

Keller: What other things would you do besides a pay–per–view taped at one event?

Sapolsky: Right now, there’s really no limits on what ’s available for us to do. I have a lot of ideas up in my head. Half of them I’ll throw out, half of them will develop into something else. It’s reallly too early to get into that. We’ll see how the first one goes and move from there. There’s a lot of good options on how we can do things, whether we tape all in one night or tape a match here and there or have a theme or spotlight some of our history, because if you make a new fan, they have over a hundred back calogue DVDs to buy from us. So our history will be a big part of things. Maybe not our first pay–per–view, but that’s something to consider. There are a lot of options to consider in the future.

Keller: How long are the pay–per–views?

Sapolsky: Two hours.

Keller: So when someone buys the Manhattan show on pay–per–view, there’s an incentive for them to buy the DVD to see the full show.

Sapolsky: Yeah, the full show definitely won’t be on the pay–per–view, but the pay–per–view will all be first–run material.

Keller: Do you suspect some matches will be abbreviated, or you’ll select a certain number of matches to run in their entirety?

Sapolsky: No, no. We’re definitely not going to give the people an edited product. The shows will be formatted to a two hour show.

Keller: It will feel live.

Sapolsky: Exactly.

Keller: Obviously, you’re always looking for new talent. What do you do to see who’s a prospect on the indy scene besides giving tryouts when you go to an area and there’s good word of mouth on them. Do you have a system where somebody is watching tapes regularly? How do you make sure you’re getting the top indy guys and not overlooking them?

Sapolsky: Really, what it comes down to now, because I don’t have the time to watch tapes like I used to, so if enough guys say I should give so–and–so a tryout, I’ll give him a tryout and see where it goes from there. We get a lot of tapes and DVDs and I feel bad because a lot of them are sitting there. Sometimes you get tapes or DVDs and they’re really low quality, or bad camera shots, and it’s tough to tell what a guy’s got if that’s the case. Usually what I go by now is if enough word of mouth from guys and if enough people say something good about somebody or somebody I trust, they’ll get a tryout and I’ll go from there.

Keller: Is this a six event deal where you’re almost guaranteed to have six events to let it grow, or is it possible you’ll only get one or two, or is it even more than one year?

Sapolsky: I think it’s for the six events. I’m pretty sure we’re locked in for six events.

Keller: Obviously if it’s successful enough and you do two million buys per show, you’ll be on every week.

Sapolsky: Yeah. Then I’ll do one show and retire.

Rude - they taped a PPV match last night in Philly that you will absolutely LOVE. Its for ROH's second PPV show and will be aired sometime this summer.

Hopefully everyone around here can ante up their 9.95 to check this one out (along with some other great matches).

The next match, Nigel McGuinness vs. a mystery opponent, is announced as being taped for ROH's second Pay Per View.

Match 8: Nigel McGuinness vs. Bryan Danielson

Looks like Dragon wasn't hurt after all. The pops these two men received were enormous. They wrestled an inspired match. They started off working in submission moves in a shoot style, working in standard spots and then they turned the speed and heat up for the rest of the match and beat the living hell out of each other. They killed each other on the floor with a running European from Nigel and then a flying cross body into the crowd. Dragon wouldn't stay down though and suplexed Nigel's back onto the guardrail. Back in, Danielson had a hurt body part, so he went to work, while Nigel tried to knock his head off as quickly as possible with a lariat before his back gave out.

Eventually, both men get frustrated and begin headbutting each other and the strikes come fast and furious. The finish was great with a bloody Danielson cycling through his finishes, from the crossface chickenwing to the MMA elbows to a Tiger Suplex, and, of course, finishing with Cattle Mutilation, all the while Nigel struggles viciously to hold out, but it isn't enough and he is forced to tap.

Bryan Danielson defeats Nigel McGuinness (Submission, Cattle Mutilation **** 3/4)
Regular readers know I'm not big on hyperbole, so believe me when I say this is one of the best matches in ROH history. This will be on the second PPV and blows away anything on the first for atmosphere and quality. I think it might be as good as their Unified match, but I'm not prepared to make that assessment without seeing it again. This was two of the very best in the world going all out. See this match, whether on Pay Per View or DVD. I can't imagine it not being a huge hit if you like pro wrestling. I guess now we know what the Briscoes and Kings were saving the crowd for.

After the match a bloody Danielson asks the crowd who the Best in the World is. He gets the correct answer.

Not sure who may want these... but I have 3 third row tickets for Edison, NJ on 7/28/07 available. I can no longer attend.

I'd much rather have someone here use them instead of just selling them off at the door of the event or whatever...

"If you are looking for a show to lose yourself for two hours and remind you why you first fell in love with wrestling, this is where you want to be. A great debut and I can't recommend ordering this show strongly enough. If all goes well for ROH, a new crew of superstars are about to be unleashed on the United States." - Mike Johnson on PWInsider.com

"I just watched the Respect is Earned PPV. It is the first time I had even sampled the ROH product and now I am hooked. Every match kept me on the end of my seat especially the Briscoes match; those guys are just awesome." - Kevin Buckler on PWInsiderXTRA.com

Czonka at 411 who is a pretty tough critic for his reviews...

Closing Thoughts:
If ROH was looking to gain respect from the new viewer I feel strongly that they did so with this debut show. While some of the criticism will come off as nit picking, well, if you are new to the column I can understand that but that's what I do here. Trust me, these are small problems and I am sure they will be fixed as time goes on and ROH acclimates themselves to PPV. As far as in ring action, it was great. A MOTY Candidate wit the ROH Tag Title match and a damn fine main event make this show EASILY worth the price, even at $14.95 from "Indemand" those bastards.

Overall I will go with a 8.25 out of 10, making this the 2nd best PPV of the year and a very hearty recommendation to buy. This is a decision that requires no thought children, put down the cash and be prepared for 2-hours of great wrestling. If this is any indication of what ROH will put on PPV, they have easily earned one loyal buyer in myself and the wife, and probably a lot more. Kudos ROH, well done.

and a consolidation of reviews from industry experts and general wrestling fans...

"I'm being honest, save your $40 (on the Great American Bash PPV), if you have to spend money on pay-per-view this week, order the Ring Of Honor show." - PWInsider.com staff member Buck Woodward on the "Great American Bash Postgame Show" audio show on July 23rd

Dave Meltzer ranked the "Respect Is Earned" matches ***3/4, ****1/4, ***1/4 and **** in the July 15th Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Here is what Meltzer had to say about "Respect Is Earned" in that issue: "I can't imagine anyone who buys wrestling for good matches not being completely satisfied....and unlike WWE or TNA, every match was good to great....ROH has always been something I've recommended to people who are about to give up on wrestling...."

"Best wrestling PPV of the year so far....the booking was excellent and puts TNA to shame." - Jeff Gagliardo at WrestlingObserver.com on 7/22

Visitors of PWTorch.com gave the PPV an average rating of 8 out of 10 and had this to say:

"Replay recommendation: I highly recommend this show. It is the best pro wrestling PPV I?ve seen on television in a long time." - PWTorch.com staff writer Sean Radican on 7/20

"What an impressive two-hour PPV. Trying to make a comparison to any of the mainstream wrestling products, the best analogy I can come up with is a two-hour Raw at its ultimate potential." - PWTorch.com staff writer James Caldwell on 7/21

"Pretty excellent stuff from start to finish....and the whole show had a real "Old School ECW" feel to it. Nothing really bad to say, and if you get a chance, go out of your way to see the Briscoes vs. Sydal/Castagnoli." - Nathan K. of Dundas at PWtorch.com on July 20th

"The PPV featured some of the best wrestling on TV in years. For new ROH viewers, they witnessed three outstanding matches." - Jon Scott at PWTorch.com on July 21st

"Really good two hours of wrestling from top to bottom. The tag match with the Briscoes was simply amazing and my candidate for best match of the year so far." - Jason Yavor at PWTorch.com on July 21st

"This show perfectly sold the product to new fans of ROH. If this was my first ROH show, I think I would have left with my jaw on the floor, and even if it wasn't, there was some pretty good wrestling on this show." - Brandon Howard at PWTorch.com on July 21st

"This PPV had four great matches, three of them were at least four stars. You could buy four WWE PPVs for around $160 and not get as many great matches as you get for $9.95 (or $14.95, but it's still worth it) with ROH." - Ryan Sarpolis at PWTorch.com on July 21st

"Those guys worked their asses off and it showed that they knew what a big show it was for them and the company itself. I know you can't really compare it to ECW, but I definitely got that feeling while watching it. It was very grainy and gritty with hard hitting smash mouth wrestling. Non stop action, fluid transitions, and some pretty insane spots. I plan on watching it again before the weekend's over and also recommending it to anyone who will listen." - Gregg Lariosa at PWInsiderXTRA.com on July 21st

Here is even more feedback:

"If you are looking for a show to lose yourself for two hours and remind you why you first fell in love with wrestling, this is where you want to be. A great debut and I can't recommend ordering this show strongly enough. If all goes well for ROH, a new crew of superstars are about to be unleashed on the United States." - PWInsider.com staff member Mike Johnson

While the Briscoes are hitting on all cylinders these days and are arguably the best tag team in the U.S. right now, the Nigel-Danielson match was positively insane. During one sequence, Danielson and Nigel keep headbutting each other until Danielson's head just splits open. it was redonkulous.

but the month of August will be positively insane, and any fan of Tag Team wrestling should really go out of their way to see an ROH show if one comes to their town, as the feud between the Briscoes and Kevin Steen/El Generico explodes.

in Boston on Friday, August 10, The Briscoes take on rivals Kevin Steen and El Generico in a Boston Street Fight.

in Philly on Friday, August 11 (MIKE D!!!!), The Briscoes and Steen/Generico are on the card, but don't have a match yet. gee, i wonder...

also on that card is a Philly Street Fight between Roderick Strong, Davey Richards, Rocky Romero & Matt Sydal vs. Austin Aries, Erick Stevens, Matt Cross & Delirious - this one is going to be sick, as all these guys have been feuding with each other for months.

On Friday August 25, The Briscoes and Steen/Generico do battle in a Steel Cage in Hartford, CT; and on Saturday August 26, the same two teams meet in a 2-of-3 falls match. not to mention the fact that former ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson gets his first title shot since losing the belt last December, when he challenges current champ, Takeshi Morishima.

go see these shows!!!!

looks like for the Philly card we have the following:

Briscoes vs. Steen & Generico in singles bouts. Match ups and stipulations to be announced.

so, this is how i see it playing out, if i may play armchair booker.

previous match: Kevin Steen & El Generico defeated ROH World Tag Team Champions Jay & Mark Briscoe in a non-title match at Fighting Spirit on 4/14/07. (S&G: 1, Briscoes: 0)

Boston Street Fight: The Briscoes win, as it's non-title. (S&G:1, Briscoes: 1)

Philly matches: Steen beats Mark in a ladder match (S&G: 2, Briscoes: 1), Jay beats Generico in a ladder match (S&G: 2, Briscoes: 2)

Hartford Steel Cage Match: Briscoes win (S&G: 2, Briscoes: 3)
NYC 2 of 3 falls Match: Briscoes win fall one (S&G: 2, Briscoes: 4), Steen & Generico win fall two (S&G: 3, Briscoes: 4), Steen & Generico win fall three to win the ROH World Tag Team Titles, S&G: 4, Briscoes: 4).

With a four-four deadlock, this basically sets things up for one final match at the next PPV taping, Sept 15 in Chicago, giving the Briscoes a rematch for the titles.

September 21st: Don't forget, "Driven" debuts TONIGHT on PPV if you have The DISH Network and TVN. (Sept 28th for InDemand) Here are what some of the critics who have seen an advance screening are saying:

"Danielson vs. Nigel is as good as pro wrestling gets in today's generation. If you have given up on old school wrestling, believing that genre is dead forever, you might want to give this PPV an order. All you have to lose is $10 but I honestly believe you'll get ten times that amount in athletic wrestling action. Complete thumbs up. Order this show as soon as you can." - Mike Johnson at PWInsider.com (http://www.pwinsider.com/ViewArticle.asp?id=26660&p=1)

"(10.0) You must buy this PPV and watch it. If you’ve never given ROH a shot, they deserve your money for this show. It is the best PPV I’ve seen since “One Night Stand” in 2005. This was simply an amazing show from top to bottom. The McGuinness-Danielson matches is one of those matches I’ll go back and watch from time to time as the years go by, as it will never get old watching the masterpiece they put on in front of a rabid crowd in Philadelphia where ROH was born." - Sean Radican at PWTorch.com

November 8, 2007 -- Nicolas Cage, wrestling fan? The "Ghost Rider" star came to the Ring of Honor show Saturday in the Manhattan Center ballroom with Darren ("Requiem for a Dream") Aronofsky, who's directing him in "The Wrestler." Cage stayed for the entire show and interviewed several of the grapplers who perform for Ring of Honor, described as "an alternative, an antidote to the bull[bleep] on TV." Cage, who will play Randy "The Ram" Robinson in the flick, was wearing "ridiculously pointy shoes," said our spy.

ROH - Man Up - begins 11/30/07
with an price somewhere between $10-15 on all PPV providers.

ROH "Man Up" debuts on pay-per-view tomorrow on iN DEMAND, The DISH Network and TVN cable systems. It will feature the Ladder War so dangerous, so death-defying and so insane that ROH has BANNED this match from ever happening again. Some esteemed critics have already seen an advanced screening and here is what they had to say about ROH "Man Up" on PPV:

- Dave Meltzer from Wrestling Observer
"I'd go out of my way to see the ROH PPV on Friday. I got a tape of it and it's a strong candidate for best major show of the year."

- Mike Johnson of PW Insider
"ROH put its best foot forward here. It was easily the strongest of their PPV efforts thus far."

"Recommendation: (10.0) This is the best PPV I’ve seen this year. I thought “Driven,” ROH’s last PPV, deserved a 10.0 rating, but this PPV is even better, as ROH found a way to top themselves once again." - Sean Radican, PWtorch.com

this review from PWtorch reiterates my thoughts on the Briscoes... if too violent is the only problem - Mike D will be happy! :)

The Briscoes have made me a fan of tag team wrestling again. The ladder war was violence cranked to 11, but instead of being a stunt fest (like in the glory days of ECW), the two teams told a great story and built to an epic finish. The only problem I had with the show was that the ladder war went too far, and it might cause new fans to expect that level of violence on each ROH PPV and we don't need wrestlers trying to top that match... ever. I don't know if ROH puts on matches like this often, but for the sake of the roster, I hope they don't. I'm already looking forward to the next PPV. Everyone on this show busted their ass in the ring, the booking made sense and pro wrestling was the focus. I can't even recall the last time a WWE or TNA PPV could make that same claim.

December 11th: It is not too late to witness "Man Up" on pay-per-view!!! There is replay TONIGHT on iN DEMAND at 9pm. "Man Up" isn't just receiving rave reviews from fans and critics.

Check out what well respected wrestler Lance Strom had to say about ROH "Man Up" on Stormwrestling.com: "If you are looking for a faster paced, more realistic alternative to WWE or even TNA, ROH is where you should be looking. ROH Man Up provided death defying stunts, great wrestling, amazing high spots, with great easy to follow booking and story telling, with none of the embarrassing mindless nonsense, of Leprechauns running through walls, pointless gimmick matches, endless run ins, and un honored promises and stipulations. ROH isn’t Sports Entertainment, ROH is an Entertaining Sport; ROH is WRESTLING....and if you haven’t seen Man Up yet, you have to order this show on replay or track it down on DVD. It’s the most entertainment per dollar you can find on PPV. Congratulations to everyone who worked on this show, and thank you for the entertainment you provided me."

man...let me say right now is an exciting time to be watching ROH.

aside from the normal cast of superstars like Bryan Danielson, Austin Aries, Nigel McGuiness, Roderick Strong, and the like, you have some guys who have been in ROH for less than a year that are going to be huge.

mark my words - Tyler Black, Erick Stevens, and the Necro Butcher are all going to be very large stars, not only within ROH, but also, i believe, outside as well.

PW Torch review of Austin Aries vs. Nigel McGuiness from the current PPV "Rising Above" now available on InDemand.

I don't have any adjectives to describe this match. You just can't put that level of quality pro wrestling action into words. In my review of ROH's fourth PPV, I said Nigel vs. Morishima was the best PPV match ROH has delivered. This match topped it. Nigel vs. Morishima from PPV #4 was one of the best 15-minute matches you'll ever see. Nigel vs. Aries went ten more minutes, which required a very difficult task of developing two or three "mini-matches" within the match, rather than just going non-stop for 15 minutes. I'll appreciate this match more because it shows what these two men are capable of in the ring. Even when there were slow spots to stretch it out 25 minutes, there was an overwhelming sense of anticipation for what was to come next. You don't find that in 90 percent of pro wrestling these days. (****3/4)

My second overall thought on Nigel vs. Aries is that this was a brutal match no matter how well they protected each other. I am concerned if Nigel suffered a legit concussion at 5:00, and then wrestled 20 more minutes in a debilitated state of mind. Yes, it would have been disappointing if the match was stopped, but a wrestler's health is always more important than the entertainment he is expected to generate.

Yeah, the fact that there was a spot only 5 minutes into the match that was unplanned - that sent Nigel head first into the guardrail, blood dripping down his face and woozy before they really even got going makes it all the more impressive.

I like this part of the review too cause it sums up guys like us - I didn't realize how early in the match the guardrail spot was, and boy did it look sick when Aries smashed Nigel in the back of the head, sending Nigel face-first into the edge of the guardrail. Gotta love the contrast of the male fan directly behind the guardrail having a good time being part of the action, while the female fan's jaw dropped and she looked very concerned. Nigel had a far-away look in his eyes, with a little embellishment, but he certainly gave the appearance of not having full control of his own body.

Anyone ever seen "Unscarred" the Sick Nick Mondo story? Seems like an interesting documentary... I saw it on Amazon for 6 bucks.

Oscar winner Marisa Tomei was at ROH events last night and Friday in Dover, NJ as part of the filming for "The Wrestler" with director Darren Aronofsky and actor Mickey Rourke. Tomei watched several matches both nights and seemed impressed. Aronofsky was thrilled with the reactions of the ROH fans.

I love Aronofsky's work, the guy is insane. Would have been cool to meet him. Tree, did you meet any of these folks?

Lance Storm commentary about ROH experience. An interesting read.

ROH: Gabe Sapolsky
April 21, 2008

This will be one of the last Promoter’s commentaries I write, as I’m down to the last few organizations I worked for during my career. After I left WWE and “retired” so to speak, I made a real effort to avoid accepting any more bookings, but the chance to work in ROH put an end to that. I was originally hoping my ECW One Night Stand match with Chris Jericho was going to be my last. I thought it would be cool if my first and last match were with the same guy, book ending my career. I still have hopes of one more Chris Jericho match somewhere down the line to still do this; perhaps I’ll promote a show in Ponoka, Alberta when we are both 50 so we can go full circle and finish where we started (LOL).

Anyway back to ROH. Gabe Sapolsky isn’t actually the promoter or owner of ROH, but he is the booker and the guy I deal with whenever I have anything to do with ROH. I first met Gabe way back in my ECW days. Gabe was actually the first guy to contact me about coming in to ECW. Gabe called me late one Friday night asking about my Japan dates, because Paul was interested in bringing me in. Once I started working for the company I got to know and like Gabe, so when he contacted me after I left WWE to see if I was interested in working any ROH dates, I at least heard him out before declining.

Gabe was persistent and eventually convinced me to come in and do an appearance at a show in conjunction with taping a shoot interview. We had already agreed to the shoot interview and Gabe insisted that if I came to a show and saw Bryan Danielson work I would be interested enough to accept the booking.

In December of 2005 I had my first ROH experience when I flew into NY City to attend their show and do the shoot interview. The experience was fantastic and I had a great time. Since I hadn’t yet agreed to work a match we decided I would just do an in ring promo, endorsing Bryan Danielson as the ROH Champ. We figured if I later agreed to work a match this would set the groundwork, and if not they still had me verbally putting over their Champion.

The show went great as did the Shoot Interview (Available on DVD from ROH) and I went home thinking that if I ever was going to do another match ROH would be were I wanted to do it. I was really on the fence after seeing the ROH product. I knew I would enjoy working for them and a match with Danielson would be awesome, but I still didn’t want to give up my last match with Jericho.

A month or so later I was contacted by 1PW in England about working a couple shows for them and instead of just turning them down I made a request I thought for sure they would pass on. In addition to the pay day I wanted, I asked for them to fly both me and my wife to England a week before the show so we could have a London vacation. My wife had always wanted to see England and this would be a way to do it for next to nothing (I’m a very cheap man). I wasn’t expecting them to agree but figured on the off chance they did, my wife would be thrilled and I would also then be able to accept the ROH booking since I was going to be giving up the ONS match as my last match.

1PW said yes, and I immediately contacted Gabe about setting up the match with Danielson. The April 1st 2006 WrestleMania weekend in Chicago worked out great for both of us, and my return match was on. Again I was treated unbelievably by both the office and the boys. I can’t say enough great things about the moral of the locker room and their conduct on the whole. Everyone was so respectful and welcoming I couldn’t believe. I felt as at home in the ROH locker room as I had during my ECW days, and you’ve no doubt heard me rave about my time there.

Gabe sent me a bunch of ROH DVDs so I could study Danielson’s work and I trained harder for that match than I had for any one specific match in my career. Being inactive for as long as I had I knew I was going to have to really push myself in order to be able to hang with the work rate standards of ROH.

Creatively this show was rewarding also. When I accepted the booking the one thing I said to Gabe was that I wanted to be allowed to do whatever finish Bryan and I decided on. I figured Gabe knew me well enough to trust me with this and he did after first pointing out the ROH “code” of no bullshit finishes. I think I actually laughed when he said this, asking him if he honestly thought I’d want any bullshit in my finish. He admitted not, but felt before giving an outsider creative control he was obligated to at least set the ground rules.

The match went great, (Also available on DVD from ROH. Look for “Better than our Best”) and to this day it is one of the matches I’m most proud of. Bryan and I gelled really well together and after years of having the creative and time restraints of WWE TV on me, it was such a joy to just hit the ring and wrestle. We planned very little ahead of time all things considering. We had all our near falls and I think one spot, and went to the ring with the intention of just working, and seeing what happened. To be honest we hadn’t even decided exactly what the finish was going to be when we headed to the ring.

We had debated all day about a pin fall or submission finish. I was all for putting him over clean with the submission finish but Bryan was worried the crowd might be disappointed to see me tap on the finish. We figured with this being my ROH debut and my in ring return I would be the strong baby face, so he was concerned about a flat finish. You have to love the professionalism of a guy who is more worried about the crowd reaction than getting his finish over. We figured we could just make the call out there, after we got a feel for the crowd. In addition to being one of my favourite matches it also ended up being one of my longest (approx. 27 minutes) and I believe the longest match I’d had in more than 10 years.

I could likely go one for another page or two talking about how much I enjoyed working for ROH, but I need to wrap this up and we still have to cover the money issue. There are actually a couple of interesting stories when it comes to getting paid by ROH. There was a screw up on my December appearance, because I figured I’d get paid after the shoot interview (the last thing we did) and Gabe expected me to be paid at the show. The guy who handles the pay cheques wasn’t at the shoot interview so once we wrapped everything up, I hadn’t been paid and there was no money to be found. Gabe must have apologized a dozen times and promised my cheque would be sent to me at home immediately. Perfect, “the cheque is in the mail”. I trusted Gabe and wasn’t concerned and true to his word my cheque was over nighted to me and I was paid in full.

For my return in April we had agreed on a price and Gabe had asked if they could run an autograph session to help counter balance my pay day and international plane ticket. I was getting what I wanted so I figured what the hell, but asked that if it ended up being a substantial money maker he give me a piece of it. I was intentionally vague about what “a piece” of it was, wanting to see how fair ROH would be. The autograph session was a huge success and ROH ended up being more than fair, with my “piece” of the action.

I cannot say enough good things about this company and how they treated me. The only reason I haven’t continued to work matches for them is that I feel it’s too hard to work at the level required by ROH on a part time basis. I take great pride in my work rate and there is no way I could keep up with that locker room just working the occasional show. Staying on top of my game and being in that kind of shape I would have to be in, to hang in ROH, is a fulltime job, and my fulltime days are behind me.

If you are a worker and get the chance to work for ROH, jump at it, and if you are a fan and have the chance to attend a ROH show, you need to jump at that too.

This Friday, May 30th, at 10pm will be the pay-per-view premiere of ROH "Take No Prisoners" on iN DEMAND, The DISH Network and TVN cable systems.
Due to the glut of PPVs, there are no good replay times on iN DEMAND except for this Saturday at 8pm if you have iN DEMAND 3 (the 3rd PPV channel). Don't miss what is sure to be one of the best PPVs of the year and catch the premiere on May 30th at 10pm. We have the entire lineup listed at the end of this ROHwrestling.com Newswire.

Here is what Sean Radican wrote at PWTorch.com after seeing an advance screening: "(9.0) This is a special show to me....This encounter (the main event World Title Match) will go down as a strong contender for MOTY (match of the year) when all is said and done, as I got goose bumps watching this match, which doesn't happen often for me when I'm watching wrestling....I highly recommend this show."

Ryan - what did you think of the show last night?

SICK spot with Roddy and Erick?

oh, and from Friday's show in CT, via the ROH message board.

Another note, while the three way spilled into the crowd in Section B, (Erick) Stevens was thrown into a section of four or five chairs, and Necro (Butcher) as usual threw chair after chair on to him, and then he took a crew member and threw him onto Stevens. Hilrious stuff. The crowd brawling was great, brutal chair shots right to the head, probably enjoyed it more then others cause it was literally a foot in front of me, but it was great stuff.

that security guy didn't know it was coming. as he was sailing through the air, he prayed he didn't go face first into the leg of a chair, and looked down to see Stevens with a "what the f*ck!?!?!?!" look on his face...

Steen & Generico vs. Motor City Machineguns at Hammerstein Ballroom on 8/2!!!
I am psyched for that.

Ya know, its funny that Rude says ROH does high school gyms... when in reality, TNA only gets 975 people at Webster Hall in NYC a few months ago... and ROH sells out 2000-2500 at the Hammerstein Ballroom. The same venue where WWE ran the ECW One Night Stand PPV's. I'd say they are doing pretty well.

Tree - got any connections for a couple good seats for my man Blue Hen and a guest? I think he's due for another show and this big event in August seems just about right. I am currently locked into my 3 third row balcony seats unless I can find an upgrade.

no way in hell did they do 975. i doubt there were 500 people there.

Either or... I don't think Hen would mind at all paying a few bucks for a solid balcony seat (Gregh?). But you also can't beat a freebie with a slightly worse view. We can set up a pre-show happy hour or something as well. Or are you really busy prior to showtime?

I'm just throwing it out there too for BH -- for all we know he'll be travelling in Iceland for the month of August or something.
Anyone else in NYC interested for 8/2? MITH maybe? Gurupie getogether and a good show?

let me here from BH before i reach out to the office and see what i can do.

ultimately, if people were serious, i could probably get a few extra seats on the floor, but yea, it wouldn't be free. i have some pull, but not that much pull.

am i busy before hand? yea, probably. especially since we're in Virginia the night before. then we hit hammerstein, and it's a big enough venue that i tend to be busy before and during the show.

but afterwards, screw making a train, let's go have some beers. Stout NYC is a common hang out, and they have beers, food, and damned pretty waitresses.

MITH? BH? anyone else from the NYC area?

last night was one of the best shows i've seen ROH run in manhattan, if not THE best. seeing the NWA World Title change hands was pretty amazing.

it was also historic, as it's the first time that belt has changed hands in NYC. considering that the title has been around for 60 years, that's pretty amazing.

there are photos up. gotta follow the linkys until you get to the 8/2/08 ROH show...

RADICAN'S TAKETALES FROM THE PULPIT 9/23: Kevin Steen & El Generico produce rare genuine moment at ROH PPV taping in Boston Sep 23, 2008 - 2:12:19 PM

By Sean Radican, PWTorch Columnist

It's a very rare occasion when I witness a moment as genuine as I did this past Friday when I attended ROH's ninth PPV taping in Boston, Mass. I've been to a lot of live wrestling events and seen my fair share of fantastic matches live, but I think I'll always remember being there in person when Kevin Steen & El Generico finally captured the ROH World Tag Team Titles by beating Jimmy Jacobs & Tyler Black in an excellent MOTYC.

Steen & Generico's win was the culmination of over a year of frustration for the duo, who have some so close, so many times against a number of ROH World Tag Team Champions. First it was the Briscoes in 2007. Steen & Generico just couldn't beat them for the titles and their frustration grew. For a few months after their feud with the Briscoes concluded, the duo didn't accomplish month and were stagnant. Then they got back to what they do best and that was winning over the crowd with their charisma and ability.

They were the stars of WrestleMania weekend when ROH ran two shows in Orlando. In June, they made a dramatic run to the finals of the ROH World Tag Team Titles tournament, despite Kevin Steen being injured at the hands of Nigel McGuinness. I was there live that night as well and the crowd was so deflated when Jacobs & Black got the cheap win with a rollup out of nowhere that they threw trash at the ring.

Kevin Steen had promised to capture ROH gold in 2008 and when Steen & Generico were granted a title shot at the PPV taping in Boston, I thought it had the potential to be a special night, but I had no idea what I was in for. The match started off with Aries & Black getting the heat on Generico for a long period of time. Eventually the fans got on their feet and began rooting for El Generico. It was easy to see that Steen & Generico's quest to win the tag titles felt real to just about everyone in the building. The fans even starting singing Generico's theme song and when he finally tagged in Steen, everyone in attendance shouted "Ole!"

The heat was incredible for the duration of the match, which took many twists and turns. The crowd was deflated at certain points when Steen & Generico were seemingly on the verge of victory and something went wrong and either Black or Jacobs managed to escape doom. When Steen & Generico finally cleared the ring of Black and nailed Jacobs with their brainbuster/package piledriver finishing combination, the entire arena shook once the ref's hand touched the mat for the third and final count.

After the match, it felt like Steen & Generico had won a sporting championship of some sort. The fans jumped up and down and celebrated as the floor in the arena continued to shake. Steen and Generico went into the crowd with their titles and celebrated. It was clear nobody wanted to leave and the celebration lasted for several minutes.

I strongly urge people that haven't given ROH a chance in this past to order the PPV taped in Boston this past Friday when it airs in November. It's very rare when you see a moment as genuine as what I experienced in Boston this past weekend. It was also a fantastic example of one of the things ROH gets right so often and that is telling stories that people can believe in.

INTERNATIONAL WRESTLING PHENOMENON RING OF HONOR INKS PPV & VOD PACT WITH DIRECTV

First PPV Event to air on DIRECTV in early 2009

ROH Classics to be launched on DIRECTV on Demand platform

ROH programming now available in more than 80 MM HH

New York, November 20, 2008 - Ring Of Honor Wrestling (ROH), in association with G-Funk Sports & Entertainment, has concluded programming and distribution deals for PPV and VOD wrestling content with DIRECTV, making the critically-acclaimed ROH brand available for the first time ever to approximately 17.3 million additional American households. In total, ROH programming is now available in more than 80 million households throughout North America.

ROH owner Cary Silkin made the announcement today with G-Funk's President Ken Gelman. The debut event, entitled "Rising Above," will be taped November 22 in Chicago, Illinois from the Frontier Fieldhouse and will premiere on DIRECTV in early 2009.

For the first time, ROH will debut "ROH Classics" on DIRECTV on Demand in early 2009. Approximately ten-hours of classic wrestling programming content from the ROH vaults will appear monthly on the platform. The best matches, rivalries and stars in ROH history will be featured.

"This latest programming deal with DIRECTV marks another major step in our evolution as a wrestling company," said Mr. Silkin. "We're excited to bring our loyal fans more of the first-rate wrestling product they've come to know from ROH over the years, and to introduce our unique brand of wrestling to legions of new fans on the DIRECTV platform."

To date, ROH has premiered nine PPV titles since July 2007. In addition to DIRECTV, ROH currently has distribution deals with iN DEMAND, DISH Network and TVN in the U.S. and Viewer's Choice and Bell ExpressVu in Canada.

Long revered by a loyal underground fan base, the Philadelphia-based ROH appeals to the disenfranchised wrestling fan fed up with storylines that seem to take precedence over the kind of powerful ring competition that ROH specializes in. ROH, in fact, is seen to have the highest level of athleticism in its field today, as evidenced by the numerous awards ROH has had bestowed upon them.

G-Funk Sports and Entertainment will continue to handle all marketing and promotion for the wrestling programs, as it has since ROH's debut on PPV in 2007. PPV and ROH Classics marketing materials will remain available on ROH's affiliate website, www.rohwrestlingaffiliates.com including easy-to-implement marketing materials and all event and programming information. A range of targeted national consumer advertising and promotion will also support each event and program.

According to Mr. Gelman, "ROH programming has proven to be the best value in the PPV and VOD business for the better part of two years now. This latest deal with DIRECTV ensures that a greater number of rabid wrestling fans will enjoy ROH content well into 2009 and beyond."

ABOUT RING OF HONORRing of Honor Wrestling (ROH) based in Philadelphia, PA was conceived by passionate businessmen (and long-time wrestling fans) who felt the current professional wrestling product had strayed from the early roots of the sport to a travesty of wild story lines and improbable scenarios. ROH was created as a response to fans that appreciated the athleticism and entertainment that the sport can bring. The term "combat art" has also been used to describe ROH's unique style.

Zyre - you see much of Spears in OVW? is he pretty good?
We are pleased to announce that the talented Shawn Spears will be on hand for a look in Manassas on June 12th. Spears is perhaps best known as "Gavin Spears" in WWE or for his incredible feud with Colt Cabana in Ohio Valley Wrestling. ROH officials have received countless recommendations on Spears, and look forward to seeing him in action in Manassas.

Is it finally Tyler's night? On the one hand I hope so, on the other hand, I'm not gonna be there to see it...

Anyone who gets HDNET either watch or DVR tonights replay at 11:30 PM -- Young Bucks (Generation Me from TNA) vs. The American Wolves main event is the best match I've seen on TV this year so far.
