Subject: Season 16 Discussion & Vote

  Posted by: Great One - [548251511] Wed, Sep 22, 2010, 09:44

Hello all... we are closing in on another draft in a couple weeks. Congrats to Rude on a dominating Season 15.

Please state intentions to return in Season 16. Also, any lurkers out there with interest in joining, please let us know, we need to have a few in reserve in case anyone can't return.

Season 16 Vote
1. Continue to Score NXT? YES/NO

NXT is going on hiatus with Smackdown's move to SyFy. If it does return on another channel, we need to decide in advance if we plan to continue scoring it.

2. "Show Closing Promo" points - 5 Points? YES/NO

We've kicked this around for a couple seasons. 5 extra points to anyone who earns promo points in the segment that ends the show. Whether its a contract signing, confrontation, arm-wrestling match, dance-off, masterlock challenge, talk show etc.

So the 2 guys in contract signing would get their regular 5 points, but then an additional 5 points for a "Show Closing Promo"

This would not in any way affect "Main Event" points which would still get their 10 points for being in the last match of the evening. Just a way to properly reward a major confrontation which is deemed important enough to close the program.

GO's votes
1. Continue to Score NXT? NO
While I enjoy the show, I personally feel it should not be scored because its leading to some unbalanced scoring, with guys having 50 point nights on a random NXT when thats all a guy gets for defending a title on PPV. I think we should all keep on eye on things here, pick up the guys accordingly to put on our benches and watch them develop. Only when they cross over to RAW, SD, Superstars or PPV should they score. And if they arrive permanently ala Kaval, Nexus, Bryan etc.

2. "Show Closing Promo" points - 5 Points? YES
Basically I feel that a "Show Closing Promo" is worth more than just 5 points for the individual involved. i.e. Kane/Taker had a major confrontation to end Smackdown last week and all they got was 5 points each. They were deserving of more than that for their efforts ending the show with a bang.

1. No.

Eliminate scoring of NXT. Its too crazy a show to score without very mediocre, unskilled talent picking up tons of points and helping someone win a title. Just too much chaos. Plus its one less thing for me to do. :)

2. YES

Make those promos that are really the key to the show worth something.

If we end up needing a new manager I say we invite RJ. He should be able to handle it now after getting his league off the ground.

Btw, I'll come back for Season 16 but I still want the first 4 picks in the draft.

Oh I should have added I was thinking 3 to make it equivalent to Curtain Jerker pts. That of course is in addition to the usual promo pts itself.

^^ Lurker looking to join if you need an alternate or considering expansion. I guess I would just need the fill in on the league's general rules- keepers, etc. But I think I have most of it down pat.

Here's my 2 cents on NXT: I know that a lot of you guys are voting to can NXT for pts but after watching the last one IMO you should reconsider. Punk was hilarious as a commentator, I hope they keep him on. The show adds another wrinkle of strategy to the game and some more viable picks. But that said who knows if it gets cancelled- would they bring in like an ECW or Superstars II?

I did get my league off the ground, thanks for the shout out Farn! We play head to head with a playoff system and 1 keeper (drafted 7th round or later) and field 9 wrestlers- 6 teams. The best part I would have to say is the "Knocked Up" style draft with all the managers in the room making picks!

We still need to hear from the following managers with their vote.

Species
Tree
Bobo
Goatlocker

Mike D has responded via email but if he could post his votes here that would be good for record keeping.

I wonder if we shouldn't take a look at some type of playoff or championship system. Like with a month to go we take the top 4... and 4 vs. 1 and 2 vs. 3 for two weeks... and then the winners vs. each other in a 2 week long RWF Super Bowl.

Would anyone be in favor of this? I think it would help trading cause these teams would still be trying to load up for a final push, everyone could fight for that #4 spot.

Wow, thats pretty good actually. Damn.

Actually, we could stretch it a bit. Royal Rumble becomes the last event of the regular season. Then the season goes from Monday after Rumble until No Way Out or Chamber or whatever thats called... that becomes the finale for 1 vs. 4 and 2 vs. 3... then the winners play each other until RWF Super Bowl aka Wrestlemania in the winter season.

Its an interesting idea GO but I've been in fantasy leagues that I dominated the entire regular season, then the "playoffs" start and some goofy 4th seed wins the championship because 2 of my guys had just gotten hurt or sat out. It always ticks me off.

Yes, it might have kept the other teams a little happier for a few more weeks but if someone beat Rude in a playoff system this season would anyone actually consider that person as the winner? Rude deserves the title after a season like this and with a playoff system he would be susceptible to losing.

What if higher seeds start out with a 50 point advantage or something like that? I've been there too. But thats just like real life. The Colts or Patriots dominate all season... but it comes down to a few weeks in January and the rest doesn't matter.

In racing, The Chase they reset the points and all you carry over is 10 points per win. Maybe we look back and give 5 points for every week a person had high score that they can carry over. That would also put more emphasis on winning week to week.

If in some way it can be weighted to reward the best team to have some kind of advantage, much like homefield in the playoffs, then I would be more open to it.

In real sports (exclude Nascar for a moment) it makes sense to basically have a reset for the playoffs because those teams don't have even schedules. They either don't play all the teams (NFL) or they some teams more than others (baseball, basketball, hockey, etc). So there wasn't necessarily an equal playing field. NASCAR is the exception where all regular season races are equal.

In RWF, everyone has an equal playing field (well, some of us seem to be clueless on how to pick a team or trade) so I'd rather see the regular season have some meaning or just stick to the current system.

I don't like the idea.

But....IF you declare a "regular season" champ, and then ALSO have a playoff champ, based on MOST/ALL/SOME teams competing over the playoff period, I'd be in favor.

Scenario 1

With 10 teams, all could make the playoffs, and top 6 would get a bye into the quarters while 7-10 fight for the last 2 spots---for like 1 week. Then, quarters, semis, finals. Seeding is used.

Scenario 2

Top 8 make it right into the quarter finals. Seeding is used. Bottom 2 don't make it. They stink anyway most likely.

Scenario 3

Same as GO said---top 4 make it, seeding.

Something like:

Season 15 Regular Season Champ: Rude
Season 15 Playoff Champ: Farn

Another trophy to go after. And everyone shoots for the double.

i like the idea of the dual championship, and it allows for a "re-set" and more fun in a season such as this, when the regular season championship is already decided.

but the draft the following year should be based on the regular season standings.

To throw a 3rd idea out there... any thought towards a draft lottery like the NBA? It would add another element to the offseason and possible prevent people from tanking a season for a guaranteed top pick?

Ok, it looks as those the consensus is to kill off NXT scoring and give 5 more points (10 total) for a promo that's the last thing we see that night.

Right now we have as many as 3 managers who would consider giving up there team if there was a replacement. RJ has already volunteered to take 1 team and he's checking with managers in his league to see if there is other interest. I'm also talking with a guy I know (who I think lives in Hungary) about his interest as well. We need to settle new owners asap.

We've got some more potential manager switches, but its all up in the air and we need to get the draft squared away so at the least Mike and Species will help us get the ball rolling there.

Big thanks to Cliff. He was an original manager, took a year off, and then came back to the fray. Much like me he was never able to grab the championship. Thanks for being a part of the league for so long Cliff.

RJ, take a look at Goatlocker's roster and familiarize yourself with the rules. You'll get to keep 2 guys, neither of which is the leading scorer from this year (Kofi). My guess is tonight or tomorrow we'll tell you who to email those 2 keepers to.

And RJ, if you have other managers who want to commit send me an email with some info.

Ok, Final Standings are posted and Rude has finished off the best season ever.

Please take time to look at your roster and consider your keepers. Remember, you get to keep 2 keepers (neither of which can be your top scorer).

I'd like to see keepers be in Rude's email box by Wednesday at noon. That allows everyone to see the taped results for all the shows this week.

That sucks, I've got the same exact team as last year now. If anyone in the last few picks wants to work on a swap I'd swap a later pick or something. At least Punk/Show fued should be over. Its the worst when your entire team is fueding with each other cause it limits points.

Its been 4+ hours that RJ has been on the clock, and he also knew from my email last night he would be up for 2 picks in short time and didn't leave a que.

Since we have pretty much wasted half a day here, I'm gonna say we have to institute the 6 HR clock that was used back in the day. This means RJ would time out at 3:15. Thats more than enough time, we all know we are trying to get 50 picks in a bit more than 48 hours, so everyone should be checking in when their pick is on the horizon.

Starting in the 3rd round we go to a 3 hour clock through the rest of the draft. With blackout period from 12-9 EST.

I haven't been the best queue guy as of late, I will be more dilligent with the draft going forward. Strong consideration went into the Dolph Ziggler pick as potential keeper implications were on the line. In retrospect I had 3 guys I wanted to go after for my 3rd pick (Big Show, Del Rio, Y2J) last night but I couldn't think of who the potential 4th guy was if they all fell- so I probably should have just sent out the list of 3. Future picks are sure to go a lot faster as a lot of guys will be off the board when it gets back to me so there is way less guesswork. I don't think we'll have too much trouble finishing up by the end of the weekend. I hear what you're all saying though, waiting can be tough especially if you are up next. I will also be sending out phone # to Farn and GO so feel free to let me know via call or text if I'm up (its generally easier to reach me that way)

The pick makes sense for anyone who isn't trying to win the title this year (besides wiggs who already has 4 studs and could have gone another round before getting a 5th).

That said I think the recent rumors are BS.

for those that are new, Farn can be a combination of lazy/busy and sometimes scoring doesn't get posted until a day or 2 later for shows. In this case he's out of town. But he'll do Superstars and Smackdown tomorrow and get the Week 1 Standings posted tomorrow as well so everyone has a fresh look before the PPV Sunday.

Unless Vince wants to pay Dana White a lot of money too Brock isn't going anywhere. Only chance he appears is in a non physical capacity. No chance White would let his biggest draw walk away or have a 1 match deal.

I only put a claim on him so that somebody else near the top would be forced to take a shot and I'd move up 1 in the waiver process.

I think they're just giving Cener (lighthearted jab at Taz there) some time off (he's been working a grueling schedule for a long time without a substantial break). This is clearly a kayfabe firing as Cena's the Hogan of this generation. I really liked the Cena Sucks/Let's Go Cena dueling chants last night.. that's pretty much how people feel in a nutshell. I don't really like him that much but I enjoyed the "goodbye" last night. In my estimation the Anonymous GM will hire him back in a few weeks or he will have a match to be reinstated. Possibly even a comeback in the Royal Rumble. I'm still picking Jericho for the Royal Rumble though.

GO and I discussed how to handle the Tribute to the Troops. We score it every year so no issue there. But this year there is the usual 1hr Saturday showing and then next week it expands to 2hrs.

We are going to score the 2hr special unless we get a reason not to. That way everything is covered.

Btw, Tribute to the Troops will be scored using Week 9 rosters. So don't worry about making changes to deal with Tribute to the Troops.

Had you told me 3 years ago the Miz would still be employed I probably would have been surprised. But he really has improved every single day. His charisma is tremendous. He keeps improving in the ring. I think he could hold the belt for a while and continue to draw fans to TV each week. I know Cena is the top of the heap guy but the Miz really is doing a great job.

Apparently there are going to be 40 guys in the Royal Rumble this year. We'll have to adjust the scoring system when they make that announcement official so if you have ideas throw them out there now. We have less than 2 weeks.

I'd also like to go on the record by saying I hate the idea. The Royal Rumble has 30 guys. Don't mess with history just so we can see 10 more guys eliminated in less than 2 minutes each.

Well the RR is scored different than a battle royal. Its based on where you enter and how many you eliminate and then you get 25 on top of that.

Elimination rank (winning = 50)
- (minus) Entrance rank
+ (plus) # of wrestlers eliminated
+ (plus) 25 points

I guess without testing out the formula it could just stay the same. Anyone wanna run possible test numbers just to make sure that entrant #4 who gets eliminated 10 secs later does ok? Seems like that could lead to a negative #.

Ok, quick look for RR scoring shows we should be able to keep the current formula. Unless someone enters #26 but is the first eliminated we shouldn't see a 0 or negative #. Everyone should get a guaranteed 20ish at least. Remember, there is no 12 point match bonus for RR participants.

moved this out of the Scoring Thread... RJ was suggesting taking a look at #1 Contender Match Bonus Points...

The tricky part of it, is that they don't always define it. So unless its blatantly out there in big bold letters you have a grey area. And then you also have to consider that match is likely already a main event, and the winner is also going to be getting bonus points for being in the subsequent championship match so he's being rewarded extra as it is. So 5 is probably the number to work with if we were to use add it in.

Using this past week as example... did they specifically call it a #1 contender Raw Rumble? I am not really sure. Or just say he got a title shot at the PPV. Is that the same thing? Would all the guys in the Rumble get bonus points? Would the Del Rio have gotten those points out of the regular Royal Rumble? cause he's basically a #1 contender now... but for which belt? so then would all 40 guys in the Rumble get these points cause its essentially a #1 contender match?

Lots of questions off the top of my head we'd have to iron out for a proposal. But this is the time to work on it, so we could potentially implement for start of next season.

I'd say this is a good idea as it's a more important match... and yes, if they get a title shot as the result of it, it's the same as a #1 contender's match.

For the Rumble, I would think you'd give the specialty points to the final 10 guys, the same way you score Main Event.

Yeah I know what you're saying GO. The (rumble or mini rumble) tends to confuse things a bit. I like Rude's idea of giving the final 10 bonus points in the case of the Royal Rumble. The Elimination Chamber match would be explicitly for #1 contendership, as would the Money in the Bank match (in a way). When I first came up with the idea I had only considered singles or triple threat matches. It's worth a vote at least once we iron out the details.

Another way I was thinking was 5 pts. for Raw/SD and 10 pts. for ppvs (since there is more bearing)

148Great One

The thing is with the Rumble (and Chamber) we give so many bonus points as it is with specialized scoring... you can really get some enormous scores. And I'm not sure #1 contender points to the last 10 in the Rumble really works, cause those 10 aren't there specifically cause they are "#1 contender material"... several are there by luck of coming out 38th or whatever.

I can see when its two guys hand picked on RAW - winner gets a title shot... how we'd want to give them more cause its a more major event.

Yeah thats a good point. I also felt that only the inevitable winner of the #1 contendership match would get the points and not all the participants.

I won't chime in on the subject itself. All I'll ask is that you keep in mind the guy who scores most of the shows and does the standings, individual scorers, waivers, and trades. I'd rather not make RWF my full time job. :)

It seems to be common in the scoring here to reward match winners and give slightly less points to match losers, so giving 5s or whatever to every participant is inconsistent with the scoring philosophy of this league. If you give the same points to everybody you're rewarding overall match participation over winning.

I think we are asking too much of Farn to try to score this. Remember when we tried to do heel and face turns. It was not fun.

Farn- Yeah I'll second Rude's post. Give you mad props for putting up the spreadsheets. The reason I brought up the potential rule was because it just seemed that there have been a lot of #1 contendership matches in the past few weeks.

Nailer- Surprised you didn't start Lawler?

Gang- Super excited for the upcoming draft. Also thanks for having me; I've enjoyed the league a lot and like the format. I will be back next year for sure.

RJ - I figured they would ease into it with Lawler...maybe a 5 point punkout for a week then ramp it up with a pre-ppv match the next. Ryder was pulling 15-30 pts each Superstars until I put him in. Ha! Bad judgement from me.

If you didn't see the last 20 minutes of Raw, go find it on YouTube.

They ran 18+ minutes over tonight and I bet USA was just fine with it. The ratings are going to be great.

I know I'm about 6 weeks early but its best to get a headstart...

Does anyone know someone who would be interested in taking over a team in the RWF for Season 17?

Season 17 will start a week after Wrestlemania, which would be April 10.

I'm quite certain we'll have one opening in the league based on what I've seen so far.

Nailer, I'd be interested to hear from anyone you know who has interest.

I know that this league is basically a democracy, but right now we've got at least 1 completely inactive manager who will be replaced at the end of Season 16. I know I have support from GO and Wiggs in finding a new manager.

The worst thing about it is otten has let his team go to crap this year, made no moves to make it better and has little in the way of keepers. It doesnt look to interesting to managers coming in to take it over.

Well wiggs, in reality nobody is ever more than a season away. If the new manager tanks for one season he can stockpile enough talent and picks to be in contention the next year.

I got an email from a friend of Nailer's. I'll be contacting him at some point this weekend to see how he'd fit.

Just organizing the draft picks, GO has outdone himself this year.

In 3 trades he's either acquiring or trading "worst pick". Obviously that gets tricky because if you acquires a "worst pick" first that could affect the "worst pick" you are trading away.

At this point I'm inclined to think that when dealing with "worst pick" trades, we should do them in chronological order. So in this case he'd acquire Bobo and RJ's worst picks first before trading away his 2 worst picks to Bobo.

(Btw, yes, it looks like that will lead to Bobo sending his 5th rounder to GO who then sends it right back to Bobo. Only in the RWF...)

Couple of items...

Right now I've only heard from one person who's interested in taking over a team for next season. If you have someone who's interested, please have them contact me asap.

Also, I'm leaving Saturday for a week vacation. So next week's scoring will probably be a bit delayed. My goal is to have all of week 22 scored and standings done before I leave Saturday. After that just be patient.

This is really more Season 17 related but I don't want to open up that thread before this season ends.

Anyway, I'm asking now if any manager does not intend to return for next season. If you know you aren't coming back (or are on the fence), please post here or contact me privately so we can be prepared. Otten's team has already been removed from him and is basically The New Orleans Hornets of the RWF. I have a new manager ready to go (I'll email him this weekend to give him final approval) so we already have that team take care of.

If anyone intends to be gone the week following WM please say so. That's our week to do keepers and redraft so if you'll be missing we want to plan ahead.

Thanks.

I am without a doubt in for this upcoming season of WWE. I think the deal with Otten was that he got stuck without a first rounder so he kinda lost interest, though Slater ended up being a decent late 2nd rounder. I would prefer more active managers too though because it just makes it more fun.

RJ my opinion is that is no excuse- he didnt try to make trades, he didnt try to use the waiver wire. He didnt even check in to say hi. He showed absolutely no interest in the league and it is time for him to go.

I'd actually not even have cared if he didn't make a trade, use the waiver wire, etc.

What ticked me off is that starting with week 12 he only had 4 starters. No excuse for that. Thats 14 weeks only starting 4 guys. For a while it was a running joke between wiggs and I.

Anyway, he's been replaced and its time to move on.

Keepers for the next season are usually due by Wed at noon (April 6th this time) so people can see the Smackdown spoilers. The draft starts immediately after keepers are done and draft order is set, which is based on keepers and standings.

So typically it starts Wednesday night and finishes by Saturday or Sunday.

I already warned Farn, but I am gonna pretty much useless beyond drafting that week. Will be crazy busy as work for multiple reasons.

My keepers are easy, so I will send those to Nailer asap and we should all consider doing that if possible. You can always change your mind and send him updated ones til noon on Wed.

Nailer - just keep track of the 20 keepers and if you don't know how to do the math for figuring out order I'm sure Farn or Rude or someone would gladly help out. Just send them the list once you get all 10 sets of keepers.

If nobody objected I'd be happy to collect keepers to speed up the process. I don't think its any secret I'm keeping HHH and Christian and unless one of them wins the title 4 times at WM that won't change.

Looks like nobody minds sending keepers to me. I already have GO's and RJ's (plus my own).

Feel free to send me keepers anytime or you can wait to see Final Standings or Monday and Tuesday results.

For new members, you lose your highest scorer and can keep any other 2 that you want.

If you have questions email me or post them here.

WGN airs its last episode of WWE Superstars this Wednesday (April 7). It looks like it will air on WWE.com after that, much like NXT.

As a result, we'll no longer be scoring Superstars for the RWF. The only shows that will count are Raw, Smackdown, and all PPVs.

Sounds good to me, its unfortunate though as it certainly thins the playing field. Seeing as there doing Tough Enough again its unlikely we'll see another third tier Superstars type show for awhile.

Ok, keepers were received from everyone but Bobo. As a result he gets his 2 top scorers, which were very likely to be the 2 he'd have kept anyway.

So below is the keepers with their combined points. Then you'll see in the next post how draft order was determined. Standings position plus keeper rankings determine draft position. Tiebreaker is worst team in the standings from the previous year.
