sorry Wiggs - i hate to do that to you, but:
1. i just couldn't let someone with that low of a waiver claim pick up someone who quite possibly could be a regular tv guy.
2. you picked up free agent Pete Wilson in a baseball league before i could. :o)

p.s. thanks for the waiver update. i was so tired last night...

If you're talking about Rotoyakl, I think you mean Paul Wilson, and I was the one who picked him up. As a Mets fan, you should know who he is. He's the former Amazin's prodigy that came up with Bill Pulsipher and Jason Isringhausen who, together with the other two, was supposed to shore up the rotation in Shea for years to come. I can understand why he's easy to forget, however. He ended up the same way as most Mets prodigies.

There were 4 of the "supposed to be the future of the mets pitchers"
Paul Wilson
Izzy
Bobby Jones (the white one)
and Pulsipher

They all played in Binghamton and I had season tickets. they were alot of fun to watch, but the mets didnt know what they had. OR atleast didnt know how to develope them correctly.

How close are we following rules though? Can he pull back a claim, make a trade, and then make a new claim? Or are claims official once listed? Not sure we have ever finalized something like that.

It pends for 24 hours, so I think he has flexibility at any time during that period. Obviously, he can be trumped by another GM, so why not voluntarily witdraw?

But lets say someone decides to claim John Smith. he waits 23hrs, then lets him go. So somebody else claims him. first manager waits 23hrs, then puts a new claim in. Could be a bad cycle of immoral blocking.

What do real sports do with a waiver wire? I am not too aware of those rules. I know Yahoo lets you pull claims back but they aren't exactly the greatest example of perfection.

Not true. He gets Coach, via Lance Storm, via Kidman. Hey, if it's questionable, I'll withdraw it. Plus the fact that kev ain't gonna do it anyway.

Well, if it's collusion, it's definitely questionable. I don't know if it's collusion, though I think it might be. See, Kev can claim Coach whether he is waiving Storm or Kidman and it makes no difference. Either way, Goatlocker or Young Gunz can stop him. As a matter of fact, if you want to get down to the nuts and bolts of it, this deal makes it more difficult for him if anything, since Goatlocker or YG might conceivably be interested in Kidman (and thus be more likely to want to see this claim go through), but I doubt anyone wants Storm.

Mike D on the other hand has the last waiver priority and would have an opportunity to move Storm for someone who is otherwise about to become a free agent without having to worry about someone with a better waiver priority stepping in.

Perhaps it should be brought to the gurupie collective.

Doesn't appear necessary since kev hasn't accepted, and I've withdrawn the offer. Unless you are talking long term issue. But still, each incident would probably be isolated (like any trade) and would need to be looked at that way.

Good discussion and points though. FWIW, I never expected it to be accepted.

Conditions, yes, but the people involved will change. For instance, if you change Storm to Orlando Jordan. Or to Jeff Hardy. Or to Jim Ross. In each case the thought process is different, IMHO.

Maybe the issue Farn raised about withdrawing a waiver claim once made.

There have been many, many times people in the league have found that a wrestler on their team has become useless. They retire or get injured for a long period of time or often they are a short term pickup or they might just disappear. A quick check at the Since Season 1 final results shows that there are many names that come up.

D'Lo Brown, Bull Buchanon, Nathan Jones, Rodney Mack, Shane MacMahon, Stephanie, Jeff Hardy, Jacqueline, Farooq, Shaniqua, TE Matt, TE John, Hawk, Animal, Zach Gowan, Crash Holly, Hulk Hogan, Roddy Piper, Raven, Goldust and Jamal were all on someone's roster at some point. I venture to guess that if you had any (or almost any) one of these names on your roster instead of Storm, the same strategy would serve you just as well, just as it would have when anyone who owned any wrestler they found was now useless and could be dropped.

As far as that other issue is concerned, I don't really get it. What is 'immoral blocking' and how would someone unfairly use it?

A trade is typically defined as an exchange of value for value. I see no value going kev's way in an exchange like this.

However, if he says he's waiving Kidman and Mike D offers something of value that he's going to keep or use, then that's another thing altogether. One man's garbage is another man's treasure....so I see no issue with trying to trade for someone's waived wrestler - just not in a scenario like this.

I don't think Mike D purposely was being underhanded, but in hindsight IMO it does kind of go around the waiver process.

See, I think is is all stuff we should try to define.

1. We need to decide whether waiver claims can be pulled back.
2. Can you make an offer to someone like Mike D did where clearly its not value for value? We just need to clear that up because we really don't have a veto rule.
3. Can you trade your waiver priority? For a wrestler? For a draft pick? For a night with someone's sister?

Lol. We do have a veto rule in that the league will certainly oversee things, as above. Trading waiver priority probably calls for a new thread, especially if someone's sister is involved.

I don't see any problem with pulling back a claim. Here's the only potential issue I see (I'll use Mike D's waiver claim of Nunzio):
If someone (we'll say its me) really wanted to be a prick about it, I could wait until 11:55 tomorrow and claim Nunzio to block Mike D, then at 10:55 on Thursday drop my claim. This would effectively block Mike D from taking Nunzio and I wouldn't be burdened with a waiver claim that I don't want. Really, I cannot see anyone in this group pulling something like that (which I believe would be underhanded). But if anyone feels that we need a failsafe, we could make a rule that says that if a blocking waiver claim gets pulled back, the most recently blocked person gets a right of refusal, so long as it has been at least 24 hours since his claim.

So lets say I block Mike D, then pull back my claim on Thursday like I said, at the time that I pull it back, Mike D may now add Nunzio to his team if he still chooses to do so, effective immediately.

I don't see any negative side effects from enacting such a rule (except that its a little confusing), but I'm really not sure that we need it. This league isn't so cutthroat.

1 - I see no reason a waiver claim can't be withdrawn in the 24 hour timeframe.

2 - Tough call on vetoing trades. I would imagine a majority could veto, but as you point out it's never been defined.

3 - I would like to see waiver priority trading - there is indeed value there. With the recent call ups of fairly significant up-and-comers like Seven (Mordecai) and the "Problem Solver" Bane/Tomko, waiver priority has meant something early on. For example, if Mike D had a higher waiver priority than kev, why couldn't Mike D trade waiver priorities in exchange for Kidman -- thus giving kev a greater chance at his claim on Coach? I like the idea.

I really think that agreeing to a trade that is designed to help out another league member with no discernable benefit to yourself amounts to collusion. The golden rule of fantasy sports is that collusion is not allowed, so I don't think this really needs to be clarified. It shouldn't be allowed.

3. Can you trade your waiver priority? For a wrestler? For a draft pick? For a night with someone's sister?

Perhaps Great One or some can dig up the previous discussion in which this was brought up. If this topic has already been breached, we should see what issues were addressed at that time.

I don't think it was ever discussed at length because I couldn't seem to get anyone to "trade" for my waiver priority. There weren't as many new guys rolling off the conveyor belt at the end of last season and no one wanted to add anyone before declaring keepers I guess.

I think it would be a great idea. Just like trading draft picks. But it would still be good to include a swap of two player ala the Lance Storm situation to keep rosters evened out til you pick that person up you want.

And would you swap waiver order entirely OR just acquire their spot while still maintaining your 7th or 6th waiver priority? Another question...

something like

Lance Storm
1st Waiver Spot
traded for
Kidman
6th Waiver Spot

No one is obviously just going to swap waiver priority without others involved, so i guess that would have to be the format.

Actually Mike D, that isn't a league rule. Just my suggestion for a way to prevent 'immoral blocking'. Personally, I'm not so sure it's necessary, since I don't believe anyone in this league plays cutthroat enough for us to enact such a rule. But if anyone wants to propose it, by all means do so. I supose I'd vote yes unless someone came up with a good argument against it.

I put it to a vote.

GO #70 - I personally don't like the idea of completely acquiring a waiver spot - doesn't that leave the other team with NO capability of putting in a claim? And I don't think creating an 11th position for waivers for that team works either. Thus, I made my proposal to read that you must trade one waiver position for another.

Mike D - Not sure if I understand the question. Since your claim has been trumped by a higher priority, in my view your old claim simply disappears.

Your new claim is a separate transaction and IMO is subject to it's own 24-hour period.

Opposing thoughts?

Ohhhhhhhh........you meant post #61's claim.

IMO, once you pulled back your claim in #61 to put an alternate claim in post #75, your claim in #61 is wiped clean.....but I'm open to discussion.
