15 horses racing this week, and *6 favourites*. I've never had a ratio anything like that. Throw in 1 7-2 and 2 5-1 shots on top of that and a lot of expectations for this week.
Let's look at the favourites:
Mine Devastation, coming off his maiden win, is a 9-2 favourite, in the Big Apple no less 0409, in a 9f $430 CPU allowance. His CPU value is $425 so this event seems drawn for him. Top jock Childs has the mount.
Swiftly Spurn, Mine's rival from larot stables, is favoured to break his maiden this week as week in a $17.5 MSW in Wyoming 2603. Oh how it must grate this horse to be relegated to racing in the backwoods while his contemporary and competitor takes on New York. There's be flame coming out of his nostrils as he turns for home.
I love this placement: Dan's Forest has Denmark's best jock in a $37K+ allowance for which only 4 horses have bothered to show up! Great opportunity to get that 2nd allowance win.
Maiden Tie Dixie is a 5-1 cofavourite in Kansas 1813. Secret Penguin is a 7-2 favourite also in Denmark in a $20K NW2L claimer. I might lose him, but this is his slot, so if he has to go, so be it.
And I will lose Counting For Way, who is the 8-5 favourite under Marts in Iowa 1913, a $7.5K claimer. Looking at what the horse could do, I decided that I had to put him in a slot where he can be competitive, even if it meant losing him. Gurupies feel free to claim if you're interested, since I know he will be going. FWIW, toral6 will try to pick him up as well.
Another key race is Chief Northern, 7-2, in a starter mile in Spain 5704. He needs to do well in this type.
Best of racing luck to all, and if I get shut out, don't laugh at me!

9 hitting the track for me this week....No favs (as per usual!)...
Clam(2515) goes off in Oregon this week...An 8.5f stakes race...At 7/1 odds..Will be another tough race for him...Maybe has a shot of getting itm...In to the starter allowances after this race i think..
Bingo(6309) is in Italy(I think this guy has visited every country in Europe..lol) A 12f dirt try in str. all...at odds of 10/1
Chief coy(6914) is in a track restricted race at BC...He is running a week(or maybe 2)before he should be really but the oppurtunity arose to try him on turf and in the next couple of weeks there are no races for him at all..odds of 9/2 in a 5 horse field..
Explosive miner(0311) in a starter allowance race as well...only 4 horses in this field...even money for him..Easy bp's and a bit of cash from him..(He ran last week, which is a bit of a worry)
Sweltering order(6409),My newest aquisition, has her first try on dirt ever in Portugal...A cpu rest. race...odds of 7/1
Rules(4307),Mine bunker(2603),Hick succeeding(5010)and Our Idols(6604) are all in msw or maiden claiming races still trying to get the ever elusive first win...
Good luck everyone..
Stl...How did it go,breeding your bargain baby?...

cab - the stlcards3 is patiently awaiting a new arrival :) Hopefully all goes well.
Several horses running this week with mixed odds.
Hot Republic - trys to do his grandaddy, Danzig, proud this week in VA (1701, 8f, turf). I'm afraid a mile is too short for this late breaker so I set the starting effort to 50%. Every start so far under jockey control has had this 3yo eating dust until over half-way. 8f is just too short for that strategy, so hopefully this works. At 14/1 I'm putting some money on this youngster. He can really fly to the wire.
I'm starting to open some stalls by getting rid of the has been or never will be's. Wouldn't want a bad attitude rubbing off on the youngter when/if he arrives. Therefore, claimer Mass Point is back to the claim races this week even though only RTG. Race 1814, 6.5f dirt sprint should get him ITM for sure unless he totally dogs it. At 3/1 he is the second favorite.
Country Water - 1807, good name for this horse. Counry water leaves a bad taste in my mouth and so does this nag. Running in KS at 8.5f dirt should get in the low 70's as reflected by his 20/1 odds. Not good for a 6yo. Maybe try MC next.
Country Jodie needs to learn the power of cheese just to come ITM in the Big Cheese Special (2415). Stretching her out to a mile and 3/16 (how many furlongs is that?) could reap a $50K reward. Running against several 100+ mares could be a slight (ok major) problem. But it's in the home state of MO so what the heck.
Doesn't sound good so far? Well it goes downhill from there.
Hardly Piddle and Long Foot oppose each other VA, 0814, and at 26/1 and 54/1 it doesn't look good. I must have been thinking something when I signed them up, but I sure can't remember what it was. Actually neither horse has a run a sprint yet so who knows. Hardly Piddle probably has the better chance. Needs to run mid 80's I'm thinking to win this race. That's not beyond reason.
Here's a bright spot, Nine Rally, son of Forty-Niner, is a 2nd favorite at 2/1 in Norway. Sloppy dirt throws a wrench in that picture.
Sally Plow gets her first true test this week. Running at 100% and sharp in KY, we'll see what she's got. Not too sure she will be a turf runner, but we shall see. At 6/1 not the favorite but one of the top horses. The #1 jock givens will be given complete control of the reins this week. This guy smokes everyone else. 46% ITM this year. Might have to drop a few bucks on this race although it is quite a gamble at this point.
Last horse running this week is the 2yo filly Out Within Form. Not much expected here.
BOL to all this week. The last race

Toral - I see Chief Northern is up against Kingdom Blushing out of my daughters stable Allyfarms. KB seems to love those mile dirt sprints, but is not sharp this week. Just running for the heck of it. Still with a good shot on the #3 jock McNabb.

I've only got 5 or six runner going. Busy week for me personally, and not that many horses sharp! Unbelievable.
As a side note, Alyrun Wing last week logged a 101.5 to take over the top slot as the fastest horse in my barns. . . Only worth 3rd. Geez.

Bummer! 6 favourites and only *one* win! That was Counting for Way who was a sure thing. But 4 places and 3 shows -- 8 for 15 ITM overall, not bad. Best performance from my stables was the place finish by Kangaroo Minstrel, who was running at 44-1.
Kingdom Blushing started nice...but I hope your daughter saw the way Chief Northern fires at the end of a race, stlcards. Only problem is he likes to finish 2nd, not first.

3 wins from 9 starts this week...
Bingo went pretty good over 12f ,winning by 5 lengths or so...notched up an 85 sp...I am getting more and more fond of him..:)...and to think i nearly ran him in claimers 4 or 5 starts back...Am glad i have persisted with him..
Sweltering order won for the first time on dirt at her first try on the surface...A route race on the dirt is next up for her..
Our idols got a maiden win...I really didnt want him to win...I shipped him to Europe to get closer to the turf arena...so no bp's from his win.. The rest were the usual 4th's or fifths or sixths....Chief coy wasn't fond of the grass at all i don't think..I need to get him back on the dirt, get him sharp and run him at 100%(Has been on 98% his last 2 starts due to the injury)
7 out of the 15 original drafted horses have got wins now...My mission is to get at least one win out of all of them before they get claimed away!!!(altho 2 have been claimed already -no success with their new owners yet either)...

No wins this week but some notable performances. Light Award ran a 102 and finished 3rd in Allw race. Broke Night ran just 4th, but posted a 79. As a 2yo, she has now run 68,72,79. A lot at the Bait hit 91 but that was good enough for just 12th. Slain at Clontarf improved his 8f speed from 55 to 65 by moving to the turf.

Don't have time to read; haven't even checked races yet.
My hard-drive croaked this morning, and my whole system and programs and everything are unaccessible. I'm logging in with a Mac, and can't even register for Football Pick'ems. Something about being locked out of making picks or something.
AAARRGGGGHHH.
On top of that, my car had a branch fall on it last night, denting up the roof.
And no, I'm not joking. So I'm going to be out commission awhile. And this was on top of everything else going on. Just thought I'd at least try to drop this one message.

It seems like this forum is acting up too. All recent messages have dissapeared from view for me. I see them if I do a filter search, which is how I found this. Is it just me, or is this thing screwed up?

Mixed week for me. Stating Hot Republic at 50% certainly helped. Ran an 85 at 8f turf, NW1x for a second. Came back a little groggy though.
Claimed a 5yo mare for breeding. Not the one I hoped for, but has Green Desert as a Sire. Mass Point was claimed from my stable which made room for the new acquisition. Mass Point didn't do anything even in a $2K claimer.
Hardly Piddle redeems me from the 26/1 odds by running an 84 at 6.5d for a 2nd place finish. Long Foot on the other hand in the same race finished well back.
Country Jodie didn't like being stretched out to 9.5f and came in well back. Seems to prefer sprints up to 8f. Well at least I know now. Can run mid 80's on dirt, but that's about it. May go to breeding sooner than I had hoped.
Nine Rally came in 4th in the slop running a 69.
I gave Sally Plow another try on turf, this time sharp, and she didn't dissapoint. Got the win at 9f turf. Only a 76SP, but she won, so I don't know if she could have given more or not. Still have high hopes for this gal.
Out Within Form, 2 yo filly ran a 53 on 6.5 dirt for an 8th.
One stable has 6 horses sharp and between the other 2 I have only 1 sharp horse. I keedp forgetting to update the riding options. I'm starting to get a better handle on my horses and hope to dump a few more in the next few weeks. I'm going to hold off on breeding my new Green Desert progeny mare, Vixen Desert. So far she has been run primarily on turf and 2 dirt routes. Her best time was a dirt sprint 6.5f where she ran a 73. Not great, but I would like to get some higher SP's and wins if possible before breeding, also trying to claim a better mare in the meantime.
Still no word on the bargain breed I put in for. May try another one from the StLCards1 stable.

Wow! I had my first horse running a 100 and didn't even notice it. Just resetting the train-for weeks and saw that Hank's Rattles #54673 broke the barrier. Not close either -- he ran a 108. And lost a cheap allowance! What do I do with the horse now? You can win a cheap stake with that, can't you? He's still NW1x.

Wow Toral, Nice run by Hank's Rattles. Was that a once in a lifetime thing or can he repeat is the question? Looks like the 6-7f sprint is right around where he does best. Ran a 99SP at 7f (week 956). Probably mid to upper 90's noramlly I would guess, but a 108 is quite a jump. Worth a shot at some big money I would think. Something I would consider is running him back on turf around 6-7f? Ran an 82 on turf at 6.5f in week 816, but not tried on a turf sprint besides that that I can see. Doesn't seem to like Routes at all. This horse seems to vary quite a bit week to week so who knows. Good luck with him!

Thanks, StLCards. I'll keep that turf sprint thing in mind. Aren't many good looking stakes coming up so I'll probably settle for a NW1X allowance, check out the stakes that week on Wednesday might to make sure I'm not missing any weak fields. If he runs a 108 again then I'll move up. I expect he'll probably be back down to 95 or so. never thot my first 108 would finish second!
OT: BTW, I thank you on behalf of my SW team for that Rams defence. Should make me a nice piece of coin next week I think.

That was a great run Toral!!..Congrats, i believe it would be a gurupie record!..I just had a look at Cokers stats and it was the 4th fastest for the week(4yo+) and 67th for the season...Very nice!...If he can repeat it, and if there is a stakes race available, i would have a shot at it....There are not a whole lot available however, so he may come up against all the "big guns" of sprinting...At least you know that he can compete at any level from NWx1 upwards and there are starter allowances to look at as well... so you have a few options ...

Well guys, I finally got my stable. First of all I'd like to give a big thanks to Toral for helping me out. I'm a little unfamiliar with this game, but I think I got decent horses on Toral's scale at least.
Now I must confess that I know nothing about horse racing except for the odd day that I turn on Headline Sports and theyre showing it to fill their Canadian content time. So this is gonna sound a bit newbie ish, but could you guys go over what I'm suppose to do now? I assume you can look at my horses by using my id "twarpy3" The help file is a little over my head, I think I'm suppose to train but dont know exactly. So any help would be greatly appreciated:)

Twarpy, welcome aboard! As far as the training goes, you want to get your horse sharp when you race. To do that it is best to set the train for week option for a future race. You do that under the Riding Options link. That link will be visible after you click on "my stable". The last field will say "train for week". Currently it is week 1159. Last week was 1152 and next week will be 1166. Goes in 7 day increments. The horse with the b- in front of it, shown last in your stable, is blocked until you run 20 races, so I would ignore that one for now. Set the other 4 for week 1166 and then check the box for updating. Hopefully one of the 4 comes back sharp next week, but there is no gaurantee, especially for the first race.
Your horses look very good to me. Kris S. is very good in the sim. Roar I'm sorry to say I'm not familiar with, but with the cost to breed that horse it must be fantastic 400+ points, wow! And from forty-niner no less, a real sim stud! And Shirley Heights is a new chef de race. Your 3 3yo horses look very good indeed. Much better than mine did.
Will post more later, maybe we should start a new thread.

Unfortunately the races are all carded at 6:00pm ET on Wed. which has already passed. The conditions (ie ready to go, sharp, etc) will be reset on Saturday after the races are run, so you need to set Hanna Foot for week 1166 as well. The chances he will come back sharp are only about 50/50.

Hi Twarpy, The races for this week have already beem carded so if Hana is not entered already, you will have to wait till next week now...(Hopefully she will stay sharp)...
I guess Toral has explained about this stuff but here goes anyway... I try to get as near to 50 activity points as i can each week...(Apparently you don't need that many but i click away anyhow)...These help to get your horses into races, you have a better chance at getting jockey's you desire, they give you a slight edge when it comes to making claims(i think?)...Click on the ad above your name on the "my stable" page to get them...To see how many you have, click on "tabulate"....You can click once per hour(so it doesnt take that long to collect them)and they go up 1-4-9-16-25-36-49..Of all the races i have put in for for my stables(about 120 or so i think)i have had only one horse miss out on a race and generally get jockeys of my choosing...
For this week, a good idea ,i think would be to have a look for a few claims-if you find something you like, post them here and someone will offer advice i am sure....and i doubt that any other gurupie would put in a claim for them...(unless they happened to come across them as well!)...Claims are much easier to aquire before your 20th race btw.. Also, i would try to boost the bank balance by making a few bets...Madman usually has a tip or two that a worth a bet on,and on the message board at the sim some are quite often posted...(and usually worth putting a few dollars on)...
The first time you enter your horses it will cost you nothing as far as travel costs go...thereafter, if you keep your travel costs under 300 dollars it is also free(for your first 50 races or so)...It's not always possible to do though...
I have just got another stable,"bacup"(thanks for letting us know about the replenishment of horses btw,STL)...I think i will be taking a much slower approach with this stable...I tended to rush into things on my other stables ,i think(one in particular is pretty much a mess),and i am paying for it because it is almost impossible to get decent horses...I will "try" and be very choosy about the claims i put in for,and i will "try" and aquire decent horses before the 20th race...
I hope you enjoy it ...Any other questions, just ask...If no one here knows the answers, people on the main message board(at the sim) are more than happy to help and answer questions...The sim community is a very similar community to the Gurupie community in my opinion...

Actually I was going to suggest resisting the temptation to claim horses right away, until you get a better feel for what makes a good sim horse. You can post your choices and get feed-back as well, but probably only on ones you find and not suggestions as to others. It does take alot of time to research them.
To get serious about this game I suggest you download Madman's Super Sim Searcher (SSS). Can't remember the link right now, but it is buried in these threads somewhere. USe the filter and you should find it. It might be overkill right now, but it is imperative for success.

SSS -- Go to Mr. Coker's site -- should be a link from the Tipsheets / Links section of the main HR site. It requires some time to download all the raceouts.
Nice to have you aboard, Twarpy.
I actually recommend putting in some claims fairly early. Maybe not week 1, but you have a big benefit to getting claims. If in doubt, *computer horses are always nice :)
General timeline:
Mon - Wed-- enter horses in races Wed - Sat -- bid on horses in auction, search claim races for bids. Sat -- watch races Sun -- check out stables to see how fresh your horses are.
Repeat! Great fun, and not too time consuming.

Of course ,you are right STL...Sometimes good claims stick out like sore thumbs though...:)...when i first started, i put claims in for horses because i liked the names(lol)...Several weeks ago i used the SSS to look up some of the horses i put claims in for(when i first began) and missed out on...I thank goodness that i never got most of them....
Btw...The reason i suggest to boost the bank balance is that the better horses in claim races are generally in higher tag races...10k+...Even though it will cost a few bp's to get them, you more than likely can recoup the bp's with one win and there is probably less competition for them...That's not to say though, that there are decent horses in low claim races... That's the general strategy i intend using for my new stable...Whether it is the right way to go,i do not know?...
